The Ser vice Cen ter will be open, how ever will be short staffed Acreage Reporting Dates In crop year 2013, FSA im ple mented ma jor changes in the acre age re - port ing dates for Col o rado. The fol low ing new acre age re port ing dead lines have been es tab lished as a re sult of the Acre age Crop Re port - ing Streamline initiative be - tween RMA and FSA. These dates were im ple mented for the 2013 crop year, with no late-fees as sessed. How - ever, for 2014 late fees will ap ply. The late filed fee is an ini tial cost of $46.00 per farm. There fore if a pro - ducer has mul ti ple farms, the late filed fees can add up quickly Crop re port ing deadlines: NOVEMBER 15, Wheat, grass, fall bar ley, fall-seeded small grains JULY 15, 2014 spring bar ley, corn, dry beans, grain sor ghum, mil let, spring oats, sun flow ers, feed crops. Larsen Col o rado s ag ri cul tural ex ports for the first six months of 2013 to taled $725.6 mil lion, an in crease of $14.5 mil lion over the same pe riod for In - creases in ex ports to Can - ada of $23.1 mil lion and to Hong Kong of $18.2 mil - lion helped to off set a $27 mil lion de crease in ex - ports to Rus sia. The $725.6 mil lion level re - corded for the first six months of 2013 rep re - sents a twenty per cent in - crease in just the past two years. Col o rado s ag ri cul tural ex port growth in cluded in creased im ports by seven of Col o rado s top ten mar kets. While Can - ada s in crease cov ered a wide spec trum of prod - ucts, Hong Kong s im port in crease was all red meats. Brazil joined the top ten mar kets in the first six months of 2013, in creas ing their im ports of Colorado agricultural prod ucts from $328,000 to more than $9 mil lion. Brazil is im port ing wheat directly from Colorado for the first time with pur - chases of $8.5 mil lion. Col - o rado s ex ports went to 102 coun tries, with new mar kets open ing in Tu ni - sia, Guy ana, St. Lu cia, St. Vincent/Grenadines, Anguilla and Aruba. 5 USDA Ru ral De vel op ment Ex tends Ap pli ca tion Dead line for SET By Amy Mund USDA Ru ral De vel op - ment an nounced that it has ex tended the ap pli ca - tion dead line to Oc to ber 1, 2013 for Phase IV of the Stron ger Econ o mies To - gether (SET) pro gram in Col o rado. Stron ger Econ - o mies To gether (SET) is an ini tia tive launched in 2009 by USDA Ru ral De - velopment in collabora - tion with the four Re - gional Ru ral De velopment Cen ters (RRDCs) and their land-grant uni - ver sity part ners. The pur - pose of SET is to strengthen the ca pac ity of communities and coun - ties in ru ral Amer ica to work to gether in de vel op - ing and im ple ment ing an economic development plan that builds on the current and emerging economic strengths of their region. Com mu ni ties ac cepted into the SET pro gram re - ceive coach ing, data anal - y sis and tech ni cal as sis - tance from USDA Ru ral De vel op ment to help them de velop a re gional ap proach to cre at ing eco - nomic op por tu nity and job cre ation in ru ral com - munities. In no - va tors across the coun try from small busi nesses to global com pa nies are cre at ing amaz ing new biobased prod ucts that we use ev ery day. Ev ery - thing from clean ing prod - ucts to pack ag ing ma te ri - als are now made from crops grown right here at home by America s farmers. In re cent years, USDA has taken steps to sup - port these ef forts through the BioPreferred pro - gram, de signed to help companies market biobased prod ucts. This week, USDA ex - panded the va ri ety of biobased prod ucts that the Fed eral gov ern ment will pur chase and use. We added new cat e go ries in clud ing new clean ers for ma rine and avi a tion use, biobased clean ing prod ucts, paint re mov ers, mo tor oil and more. With this ex pan sion, we now rec og nize 97 sep a rate prod uct cat e go ries and more than 10,000 unique types of biobased products. The Fed eral gov ern - ment is al ready us ing a wide va ri ety of these biobased prod ucts. For ex am ple, Yel low stone Na - tional Park uses biobased lu bri cants and clean ing prod ucts through out its 2.2 mil lion acres. At the Statue of Lib erty, biobased hydraulic oils are used in the el e va tor sys tem. And mul ti ple U.S. mil i tary bases across the na tion are us ing biobased prod ucts ev ery thing from bed ding, tow els and sheets to soaps and cleaners for military equipment. In ad di tion to ex pand ing Fed eral use of biobased prod ucts, USDA also re - cently re opened the ap pli - ca tion pro cess for com pa - nies to ap ply for a Cer ti fied Biobased Prod - uct la bel. This unique la - bel, backed by cer tif i ca - tion, helps con sum ers iden tify hun dreds of biobased prod ucts that ap pear on store shelves today. While bud get re duc - tions have cre ated un cer - tainty in re cent months, we know a strong biobased econ omy has real im pacts for folks. These prod ucts will cre - ate new in come for farm - ers and new job op por tu - ni ties across ru ral Amer ica and by har - ness ing biobased prod - ucts, we can re duce Amer ica s dependence on oil. This week s new ef fort is crit i cal to our mis sion to re vi tal ize the ru ral economy. It s possible for USDA to fo cus on such pri or i ties in part be cause our proactive ef forts have saved more than $828 mil - lion in re cent years al - low ing us to stay fo cused on these mis sion-crit i cal priorities. For our part, at USDA we will con tinue in vest ing in a strong biobased econ - omy.
