10 Three years ago, Paine Intermediate teachers and administrators were searching for ways to provide time during the school day for professional learning. After lots of conversations and preparations, the school rolled out Club Day, a win-win for students and staff. Club Day is a special day that occurs because of the innovation, hard work and generosity of our counselors, specialist teachers, substitutes, and community volunteers like ministers and retired servicemen. If you ask any student what their favorite day is at Paine Intermediate, chances are they will tell you, Club Day! Ask a teacher what day is most valuable, and they, too, will most likely say, Club Day! Thank you Lauren Blake for the huge amount of work you do to make club Day a success. 12 THE 1st HTHS Paws and Claws Food Drive The Student Council Association and the HTHS Cheerleaders are excited to announce that this year s Canned Food Drive will be a competition between HTHS and Clay-Chalkville High School. Students at both schools will be donating cans during the entire month of October. The cans collected will be displayed at the HT vs. CCHS Football Game with the winning school being announced during halftime. At the first HTHS vs. CCHS Basketball Game, the winning school will be presented with a trophy for winning the first annual Paws vs. Claws Canned Food Drive during halftime. All canned goods will be donated to TEAM, which is the Trussville Ecumenical Assistive Ministry. TEAM is a non-profit ministry that includes representatives from community organizations and dedicated volunteers. We will be collecting cans through first period this year. At the end of the month, the SCA will reward the winning class with a Chik Fil A breakfast, and, as always, we will determine the winning class based on class size and total cans collected. We are excited about this year s competition and the potential to help many families in our community. Thanks in advance for participating in the first annual Paws vs. Claws Canned Food Drive.
