CYCLONE CONNECTION February 2017 To all the students, parents, alumni, staff and faculty, I pray that this message finds each of you continued to be blessed. I am so glad to have the opportunity to continue to keep everyone up to date as we move into the end of the winter months. Our school continue to see God s will and abundance being placed upon CCS. Overall enrollment is at the highest level it has ever been and in a few short weeks we will begin our open enrollment window for families for the next school year. Financially we are stable and placing more funding in savings for future growth in all areas. Spring fundraisers are being planned to benefit our school, and of course the high level of academic rigor continues to produce excellence with our student body. All of these factors help us to see that we are well on the way to finishing our school year blessed by God! We also know that it is because of all your continued support and passion that we can make His will come to light. As you know, we are committed to the family friendly school atmosphere that makes CCS so unique. I want to continue the challenge all of our students to live out the words of the Bible found in Matthew 5:16, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. I pray that our students will be given the knowledge and passion they will need while they are with us at CCS to grow and go forward into our community to be the light before all they encounter. It is through your support for our school that we will see this take place. I look forward to the blessings that God will place on all of us as this school year continues to move forward. Please join us whenever possible; at school, our next sporting event, or the next school function. You can always find out what is happening with your Cyclone family by stopping in to see us, finding us on facebook, instagram, and twitter, or visiting the school s new website. Thank you for all that you do and for your continued support of our school. Go Cyclones! Roy Henderson, Head of School
CYCLONE CONNECTION * February 2017 Each month during the school year, the middle school students participate in some type of a community service project. Thanks to the 6 th, 7 th, and 8 th graders and their families, Community Christian School has been able to reach out to our community. The local Police, Sheriff, and Emergency Response Departments were blessed with goodies. Canned food items were donated to the Hope Station. We gave toys to the Salvation Army at Christmas, and blessed the Wesley Shelter with a monetary donation. During the month of January, we helped the Wesley Shelter once again. The Wesley Shelter provides emergency shelter, 24 hour crisis line, advocacy, counseling, legal and supportive services to those who are in crisis as a result of domestic or sexual violence. Our students brought in items from the wish list at the shelter and we were able to deliver the donations on February 1 st. We are so thankful that our students are giving back and serving our community. A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed. Proverbs 11:25 (NIV) WAY TO GO CCS MIDDLE SCHOOL! YOU ARE BLESSING OTHERS!!!
CYCLONE CONNECTION * February 2017 GUIDANCE NEWS: Juniors and Seniors are encouraged to take the SAT or ACT this spring. The SAT will be administered March 11 at Greenfield School (deadline to register Feb.10) and also May 6 at Fike High School (deadline to register April 7). The ACT will be administered April 8 at Wilson Community College (deadline to register March 3). This affords our students 3 excellent opportunities to take a college entrance exam and not be required to go to an out-of-town school. The Stanford Achievement Test will again be given to grades 3-9 at CCS and those dates are April All standardized tests are one important measuring tool for our students but certainly not the only determining factor for success - remember, daily classes at school, paying attention, doing homework, and classroom tests are a much better measurement of student ability and motivation. NEWS FROM CCS OFFICE: Enroll NOW and SAVE. Reenroll and save! We usually end the discount for reenrollment on January 31, this year, we have extended that time frame until February 28!! So enroll early and each family could save up to $200!! CHECK OUT OUR NEW CCS WEBSITE!!! We are excited about our newly refreshed and improved website! Please visit and see our updated web page! You will find our website will be a go to place for your child's teachers page, including homework information, updated pictures, information about CCS and student life and activities among other things. Make sure while you are there to Subscribe to your student s teachers page and the school s calendar so you can stay connected Take a look for yourself and see what is happening in cyclone country!
CYCLONE CONNECTION * February 2017 Credit: Picture and article run in the Wilson Times Junior, Morgan Lane, of Community Christian School Cyclones leads entire race for her first NCISAA 1A XC State Title. Hagan Stone Park, Pleasant Garden After ranking in the top three for the past three NCISAA 1A XC State Championships, junior, Morgan Lane, took the crown capping off her season with her first state title with a time of 21: After the race Lane was interviewed by NCRunners about her best season yet. "It was God's timing!" Lane said. "I wanted to leave everything I had on the course, God guided me through." Following behind Lane was middle schooler Paige Court of Wayne Christian School with a time of 21: Wayne Country Day took the overall girls title with 4 of the top 10 placements. The newly reformed CPIC conference took 6 of the top 10 placements overall earning All-State recognition. "As the conference representative I was so proud of how everyone ran and especially beyond blessed that Morgan won the title after coming so close each year!" said Coach Bryan Cannon of Community Christian. "Once we dialed in proper nutrition and amped up our training I knew in my heart it was her time. I'm really proud of everyone this season." The Cyclones had personal bests set by the senior duo of Christian Butler (25:31.43) and Logan Orndorff (26:00.66).
CYCLONE CONNECTION * February 2017 Winter Sports Update The Middle School boys basketball team coach came in only returning one player from last year s team and a new coach in Coach Kenneth Atkinson. The MS boys have improved since the beginning of the year losing a few close games throughout the year. The MS boys team are a young team that will continue to grow in the future. The JV girls basketball team came into the year with first year Head Coach Shannon Jefferson Coach Jeff. The girls which were a very young JV team held their own finishing the year with a 4-9 record. The future looks bright for our girls basketball program. The JV boys basketball team coached by Coach Atkinson started the year off at a hot 4-0 record. They currently are the #3 seed in Conference tournament. The boys have had a good season and are looking to make some noise in the Conference tournament. The Varsity girls basketball team, coached by 2 nd year Coach Rebecca Leigh, came in returning a core of girls that played for Coach Leigh last season. The Varsity girls will return all their players next season which looks good for the future. They are currently 10-7 overall. However, Coach Leigh will be getting married after the season and moving to Georgia. She will be missed greatly! The Varsity girls are currently third in the conference and have hopes of making the State tournament this year. The Varsity boys basketball teams coached by first year Coach Micah Baines started the year great with a 6-0 record. The Varsity boys are led by only two seniors, Michael Haney and Davis Stone. The rest of the boys are juniors which helps the future of the boys program. The boys are currently 10-9 and look to stay competitive in a highly skilled conference. They are currently making a push to hopefully make the State tournament. We are very happy to see the direction in which are basketball program is going after a few years that have been difficult to get through. The girls and boys teams have drastically improved since the beginning of the year. We hope to see continued improvement of all our basketball teams.
