2 Academic Growth Progress Reports and Grades 3-5 STAR Reports Quarter two progress reports went home with students on Friday, December 4th. Students in grades 3-5 also received STAR parent letters for both reading and math. If you have any questions or concerns about your child s progress, please feel free to contact your child s teacher to set up a conference. Surprise College Alumni Day Staff members across both the elementary and upper campuses surprised students on Friday, December 4th, by wearing college gear from their alma mater in order to spark conversations about post-secondary opportunities. Character Development December Character Trait: Responsibility Message on Morning Announcements: Self-control goes along with responsibility. Self-control means that you show control of your own actions and emotions by taking a moment to think about the consequences before speaking or acting. Self-control is important in school and in every part of your life. Imagine what the world would look like if everyone spoke and acted without thinking first! When we feel ourselves getting upset, always remember to take a deep breath and think first. Classroom Follow-up: Have the students imagine what the world would look like if everyone spoke and acted without thinking first. Draw pictures or write stories to creatively depict what life would be like if no one exercised selfcontrol. Use these ideas to discuss why self-control matters. Talk about using self-control with the words we say to each other. Read and discuss the poem Words are Wonderful Things. Home Follow-up: Ask your child if someone has ever said something to them to hurt their feelings. How did they feel? If the person apologized, did it change how they felt or were they still hurt? One of the reasons it is so important to use self control and think before speaking is because once something is said, the words can never be taken back completely. Students of the Month Program: Students in each class nominated a student exhibiting behaviors that correlated with our November character trait of the month: Respect. Our Students of the Month were recognized on Friday, December 4th over morning announcements, and then they joined the Principal for Donuts with the Principal. Congratulations to our students of the month: Lillianna Suppa, Elianna Pena, David Mull, Zoey Bush, Cora Kinder, Rosabel Schultz, Anthony Bosse, Weston Bartlett, Bela Almarode, Alexa Masters, Blake Barber, Owen Walker, Daniel Abu-Eita, Joshua Cartee, Trey Trippett, Ethan Gural, Karl Buckle, Jr., Karla Del Toro, Angel Vazquez, Alyssa Worrell, Sydney Rightmire, Natasha Linares, Maria Weese, Ashley Goncalves, Takyra Sampson, Ben Finer, and Tyleigh Kinder. We are so proud of them!

3 Food Drive Success! Two full car loads of food was dropped off to the St. Vincent de Paul Society from the tremendous outpouring of support from both ISNP s upper and elementary campuses students and staff. Food pantry organizer, Connie Kallin, was overwhelmed with all of the food delivered and stated that it would go a long way to feed the 51 needy families of North Port that they helped this Thanksgiving that would otherwise go without, had the Sharks not stepped in to help. This food will also assist in making food boxes for as many, if not more, families for the Christmas holiday as well. Thank you to the Student Government, National Honor Society, National Junior Honor Society, and K-Kids Club for organizing this event to help our local community, and a great big thank you to all of the students and staff that donated food. Below is an excerpt from a thank you letter sent to the school on behalf of St. Vincent de Paul Society. Pictured: Zachary and Brady Ness helping with the ISNP food delivery. Car load number two full of food. Connie Kallin of the St. Vincent de Paul Society inside the food pantry. Once again this year, Imagine School at North Port is assisting Toys for Tots during the Holiday Season. Please send in your donation of NEW UNWRAPPED TOYS as soon as possible. Toys for Tots is sponsored by the Marine Corps League and hundreds of local children will benefit from your generosity. A collection box is located in the Elementary Office.

Flyers for the holiday raffle went home with students this week. This year, the holiday raffle is being sponsored by Mrs. Bowden and Mrs. DeMaio in the hopes to raise money for a spring musical for elementary students. This will be the first musical for elementary students and we have a great one lined up! Tickets are only a $1.00 and the winner will be revealed on morning announcements the Friday before Winter Break.

5 5th Grade Night at the middle school basketball games in The Shark Tank was a ton of fun and a huge success as we cheered both teams on to exciting victories.
