1 Dear NPHC Members, Well, I can say that Spring can t come fast enough for me!!!!! The older I get the more intolerable I am of the cold weather. I am sure a lot of you can t wait to get out and start using some of those awesome year end awards that you won showing NPHC last year. Congratulations to all of you!!!! Following some of you on Facebook I can see you have been very busy with winter activities but are anxiously awaiting the best time of year (and mine of course) Horse Show Season!!!!!!!!!! Plans are coming together for the 2011 show season. Shows dates are set, judges hired and things are starting to look promising. Nominations and ballots for National Director should be coming out soon so don t forget to vote. I have decided that this might be a good time for me to volunteer some more of my free time to APHA and run for a position as National Director for Nebraska. I enjoy the involvement with the Paints so would enjoy the opportunity to represent Nebraska. If you any suggestions or ideas be sure to get hold of someone on the board so that it can be talked about. We are here to do what the members want and we listen to all suggestions. Looking forward to the warm weather and seeing everyone again at the Spring Meeting! Colleen Dubsky NPHC President To Do in Renew NPHC Membership Why??? 5 New Classes Added for 2011! NPHC is adding Amateur Walk Trot classes, as well as Green Horse classes! Amateur Walk Trot Classes: This division is for Amateurs 19 and over. When an exhibitor enters any of these walk-trot classes at a show he or she may not enter any other classes at that show with the exception of halter, showmanship, yearling in-hand trail and yearling longe line. All participants in this division must meet Amateur eligibility as outlined in AM-010, and hold a current Amateur card as specified in AM-015, which will contain a walk-trot division to be applied for annually and will limit the exhibitor to those classes only for that calendar year. Green Horse Classes: The purpose of Green Horse Classes is to allow a horse to compete on an entry-level field with horses of the same level of experience. The Green Horse Classes are a stepping-stone to the more advanced level of competition with seasoned horses. Horses are eligible for Green Horse Classes if it has not won more than 10 points or a World or Reserve World Championship in classes of the same division. (Points from all divisions will count and are cumulative in determining eligibility. The April show looks to be our big Highlight of the year again so we need ALL of our members that are available to pitch in where they can. Committee Chairs are needing help to manage the tasks listed below so if you are available to help contact a chairperson and let them now. We want to ake this a smooth run affair for all of the exhibitors that attend!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Committees chair people are: Stall/Sawdust: Colleen Dubsky and Bruce Heidbrink Exhibitors party: Heidbrink Family Awards: Beth Junker and Michelle O Dey Gate: Andy Croghan Trail/Games set up: Renee Stouffer Paid Trail practice: Angela Tordsen Keep in mind that the more efficient we run our shows the more money there is for year end awards, the fall banquet and other fun activities. ** We also are also needing a show manager for the September show in Lincoln.** Please volunteer where you think you can!!!! If you are not going to showing that weekend come and help us out and catch up with your friends. With all the memberships help we can make this show season work better. Thanks for your help, Colleen

Attendees: President Colleen Dubsky, Vice President Courtney Lutjelusche, Secretary Renee Stouffer, Treasurer Michelle O Dey, Directors Bruce Heidbrink, and Beth Junker, Not present were Directors Andy Croghan and Lindsey Puopolo. Reading of Minutes: The minutes of the last meeting on July 16, 2010 had been previously reviewed through with a couple of changes made. No discussion was brought up at this meeting. Treasurer s Report: Michelle O Dey presented the treasurer s report. As of October 31, 2010, the Pinnacle Bank account has a balance of $31, The balance is made up of $4, to the youth club and $27, to the main club; $15, is currently set up in a money market account with the remaining balance of $16, in a regular checking account. Michelle has the Wolf Brothers Western Store invoice for year end awards. The awards committee will review the invoice before having it paid. There are two unpaid April show entries. Certified letters have been sent to each exhibitor. Michelle will follow the protocol of mailing certified letters to the exhibitors three times and then, if no response to pay, the unpaid bills will be turned over to APHA. Bruce Heidbrink made a motion to approve the treasurer s report. Beth Junker seconded the motion. All in favor. Motion carried Membership: We have 58 adult memberships and 31 youth memberships. The dues for 2011 will remain the same as Directory: A suggestion on printing fewer copies of the directory for 2011 was made. There were 1,300 copies made in 2010 with a proximate cost of $3, If we were to only print 750 copies of the 2011 directory, there would be an approximate cost of $2, No further decision was made. Newsletter: Any information regarding the club should be sent to Mindy Kerwin to add to the newsletter. If there is something that needs to have immediate attention, you might want to ask Jan Berry to send out a mass with the information. Website: Sue Schimmer manages the website. Any information needed to go on the website should be sent to Sue. There is a bill for the domain that is due by January 1, Awards: Courtney Lutjelusche reported that the majority of the year end awards have arrived. She will review the Wolf Brothers Western Store invoice before it is paid. Youth Report: The youth will be creating decorations for the banquet. The youth are interested in adding an open walk/trot class to each of our shows. The cost of the class is $5.00. A judge hired for each show would judge the class. The youth are discussing the possibility of having a year end award for the class Old Business: There are a couple of exhibitors who owe invoices from the April show. A discussion on sawdust collection at the LEC was brought up. No decision has been made at this time. Colleen Dubsky mentioned that the club received $ from the Nebraska State Fair for the Paint horse show held in September. New Business: There was a discussion on hiring individuals to be the announcer and ring clerk for all of our shows. A decision has been deferred to the new board. Our show secretary, Jan Berry, has notified the President that she might be able to continue as our show secretary for 2011 if she can line up her schedule to allow it. Jan should know in the next few weeks if she will be able to continue as our show secretary. If Jan is not available, the board discussed who may be interested and/or available for the position Show Schedule: The majority of the 2011 show dates have been set up. Our April show will be on the 23 rd and 24 th at the Lancaster Event Center in Lincoln. Three of the six judges have returned signed contracts. They are Gerald Butler, Mike Short, and Mike Hachtel. A couple of ideas were brought up for this show: (1) have an exhibitors party and (2) have a sunrise cowboy church service. Discussion followed. A decision has been deferred to the new board. Our May show will be on the 14 th and 15 th at Christiansen Field in Fremont. All four judges have returned signed contracts. They are Mark Smith, Rod Safty, Gary Hersom, and Carly Veldman. As of right now, we do not have a date or location for a June show. We will discuss at the general membership meeting if we would like to share a show with the Kansas Paint Horse Club. Our July show will be on the 16 th. A location and judges have not been determined. The Lancaster Event Center is too expensive for this one day horse show. Possibilities of having this show in Fremont or Grand Island were discussed. A decision has been deferred to the new board. Our August show will be on the 6 th and 7 th at Christiansen Field in Fremont. All four judges have returned signed contracts. They are Kim Garrett, James Johnson, Jeff Johnson, and Tim Crowley. The Nebraska State Fair Paint horse show is currently scheduled for September 2 nd in Grand Island. There was a discussion on whether to state point this show or not. A decision was deferred to the new board. Our September show will be the 3 rd, 4 th, and 5 th at the Lancaster Event Center in Lincoln. Two of the judges have returned signed contracts. They are Margo Ball and Sandy Curl. A discussion on adding a third day to this show was brought up. The format of having a regular show on Saturday, a youth/amateur only show on Sunday, and a regular show on Monday was talked about. A decision was deferred to the new board. November Board Meeting con t 2011 Shows: Show managers are needed for all of our shows. A motion was made by Courtney Lutjelusche to split the Amateur Showmanship and Amateur Western Pleasure classes at the April show. Beth Junker seconded the motion. All in favor. Motion carried. There was some discussion on adding a Junior Hunter Under Saddle class. This topic has been deferred to the new board. Additional discussion on show committees and who should get paid versus volunteering for the April show was brought up. These decisions have been deferred to the new board. There was some discussion on creating a flyer or post card with our show dates and locations for 2011 and mailing out to all exhibitors who have shown at our Paint horse shows in the past. Show Bill: The youth will have an open walk/trot class added to the show bills. A motion was made by Courtney Lutjelusche to move the judging of showmanship from after the color classes to between gelding halter and mares halter. Discussion followed. A decision has been deferred to the new board. There was a discussion to have the trail classes follow after the Western Horsemanship classes. This discussion was put on hold. APHA has created new classes to be offered at horse shows. They are the Green classes and adult walk/trot classes. We discussed the possibility of adding the following Green classes: Western Pleasure, Hunter Under Saddle, Trail, Western Riding, and Reining. These are the open level classes only. We discussed the possibility of adding the following adult walk/trot classes: Showmanship, Hunter Under Saddle, English Equitation, Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, and Trail. Our 2010 show fees were reviewed. Bruce Heidbrink made a motion to (1) add the Green classes, as listed above, (2) add the adult walk/trot classes, as listed above, (3) keep our show fees the same as 2010, with the exception of raising the April 2011 show fees as already passed at our July 16 th board meeting, and (4) include a high point weekend award for adult walk/trot. Michelle O Dey seconded the motion. All in favor. Motion carried. Show Facilities: The contract with Lancaster Event Center for the April 2011 show has been signed and returned to LEC. The contracts from Fremont Parks and Recreation will be sent out sometime in February or March of Colleen Dubsky has called and confirmed the May and August show dates with Vicki, an employee of Fremont Parks and Recreation. Adjournment: Bruce Heidbrink moved to adjourn the meeting. Beth Junker seconded the motion. Meeting adjourned at 12:54 pm. SUBMITTED BY: Renee Stouffer, Secretary APPROVED: DATE: Dear NPHC Friends: It is with our deepest regret that we let you all know that long time Paint breeder and a good neighbor from south of Nebraska, Jerry Boomhower of Russell, Kansas passed away. Jerry died on Monday December 27th He was a rancher, wheat farmer and cattleman for many years. He produced many high quality horses of the Skipper W line. He was a principal in the organization and development of the Paint Horse Congress, served on the APHA Executive Committee and was installed as the APHA president at the Association's 30th Anniversary Convention in Seattle, WA. He was a past-president of the Kansas Quarter Horse Association. Those of us who've been in this Paint Horse business since the beginning, remember the horse shows Jerry sponsored at the Boomhower indoor arena at the ranch south of Russell. He was always quick to encourage beginners - especially youth. Jerry is survived by Ginny his wife of 53 years and their three children. Son Kip Boomhower and wife Kathy of Russell; and daughters, Denise VanDegrift and husband Tom of Luray, and Lisa Moubry and companion Brian Hamel of Bunker Hill; and seven grandchildren.
