2 FROM THE PRESIDENT: WAYS AND MEANS COORDINATOR Kristi Mach Heather Massey Happy almost spring everyone!!! Ok, so I am jumping the gun a little but were thinking spring and making plans for the upcoming season. Keep an eye out for upcoming events. We will be jumping into track season soon and with it comes track concessions. This is very important, this is where we made the money to pay for band camp last year we need YOUR help to make this happen again. I know how easy it is to think to yourself someone else is covering it, and truth is that is not always the case. We have had to ask other groups to fill in where we had gaps and we have lost profit. Please do not assume it is covered and not respond to our pleas for help. And on to new things, I would like to welcome Amy Williams to the board as our new administrative assistant!!! We are still looking to fill one more position the Drumbeat editor, Angie is being very kind and continuing her service doing this for us, but the spot is still open. If you are interested please see a board member for details. $STUDENT ACCOUNTS$: Hello Everyone, Gretchen Prine gprine@wayneband.org I hope you all are enduring this arctic blast and staying safe and warm. Registration for the new season will be upon us before you know it. If you need to know your student's account balance or if you want to use the money towards the next season, please me. I should be able to get back with you within 24 hours. Thank you to everyone with the fundraising! Some new ways to raise money will be forthcoming including BW3 nights :) We are going to try to do one for each of March, April and May, focusing on different items to raise money for. First up, new Warriorette pom poms. VICE PRESIDENT Tracy Hall thall@wayneband.org As we prepare for the continuing cold weather that is an Ohio winter, I want you all to look ahead to May and registration for the upcoming Marching Season. That s right, it s closer than we realize. Please be thinking of how you would like to help, continue making this an amazing Marching Band and Warriorettes season. Band Camp will be here before we know it. Don t forget that we still have Track season coming up for the concession stand, we use the profits to benefit the entire Band/Warriorette team and it takes many people to make this happen. Look at the schedule and pick a shift or two that you can come out and lend a hand. It s also a great way to get to know other parents and students. See you all at the field. If you have a senior and have a new Band or Warriorette child coming in this season, I would be happy to convert the account to the new student. Please remember that you have until Aug. 31, 2014 to use your senior's student acct. We cannot give you the money directly because we are a non-profit organization. You can, however, use the money for music or dance lessons, or we can write you a check to the college your child will be attending. For those of you who are planners, we will be traveling to Disney in the Spring of You can start putting money into your student account now, to help defer the cost later. The Disney trip is so much fun and parents can chaperone, as well. TREASURER Ann McInstosh amcintosh@wayneband.org Be sure to contact me if you are needing any information. UNIFORMS (937) Chris Zimmick czimmick@wayneband.org Unfortunately, not all items have been paid for from this past season. Any outstanding fees for socks, gloves, cleaning or possibly whole uniform will be added on to next year s fees.
3 Happy March! I hope you ve enjoyed your second official month off from Warriorettes. Remember to be stretching and talking about your experience as a Warriorette. We love to have new recruits, and we get more from the high school than the middle school some years! Also, you need to be doing your VERY best in classes. For 3 rd quarter, you need a 1.8 GPA to be able to tryout. But the GPA goes up to a 2.0 for participation in Fall of 2014, so 4 th quarter grades must be a 2.0 for team members and a 2.5 for officers. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. IMPORTANT TRYOUT INFORMATION: MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!!! OFFICER TRYOUT INFORMATION March 24 th Potential Officer Candidate Meeting 4:00 5:15 PM Band Room Any Warriorette interested in becoming an officer should attend this meeting. We will pass out the tryout packet and make posters and signs to hang up at the middle school and high school announcing tryout weeks. Bring markers! We have also set dates for the 2014 Warriorette tryouts. Please mark your calendars!!! The dates are as follows: April 28 th May 1 st Pre-clinics 6:00 8:00 PM Wayne Aux. Gym Pre-clinics are helpful to any girl trying out for Warriorettes for the first time. At pre-clinics, girls will have the opportunity to meet the advisors and officers, learn basic skills helpful during tryout week, and gain confidence before the big tryout. We encourage any interested girls to come out any night they are available and strongly suggest attendance all week. Potential officer candidates are expected to attend and assist. Current underclassmen officers will assist with pre-clinics. May 5 th 8 th Clinics 6:00 8:00 PM Wayne Main Gym Clinics are mandatory for any girl interested in trying out for the team. Attendance is required every evening. Girls will be placed in tryout groups and learn both the dance and kick routines they will perform Saturday. Tryouts follow Saturday, May 18 th. May 5 th 8 th Officer Clinics 8:15 9:30 PM Wayne Main Gym Officer clinics are for any current Warriorette member interested in becoming an officer. In addition to preparing your individual routine; you will learn the officer dance, officer kick routine, and command calling. May 10 th TRYOUTS Wayne Main Gym/Auditorium 10:00 AM - Officer Tryouts 1:00 PM Team Tryouts 5:00 PM Team and Officer Postings
4 CONCESSIONS Beth Ann Hill Thank you to everyone that came out to support our basketball/winter concessions despite the bitter cold and snowy weather! Our final BIG indoor event is Wednesday, March 19 - the Harlem Wizards - and I will need a few more people than usual to cover this event, so please be on the look out for volunteer information as that date approaches. I will be adding a few extra items to the menu just for that night, and we expect it to be very busy! Concessions will then be moving back down to the stadium for our first home track meet, which is scheduled for Monday, March 31st (the start of our kids' Spring Break). This meet starts at noon that day, so if you are available late morning into the early afternoon, we need you to get things started!! Please remember that OUR concessions help reduce YOUR fees and consider volunteering! I am looking forward to a very successful track season (my favorite concession season) and hope to continue to see new faces and get to know more of you personally!! Also in preparation for our return to the stadium, we are in need of a good working cooktop/stove for the main concession stand. Our current equipment is quite old and is rusting away and we only have 1 small burner on which to heat water for hot chocolate. Since track season has been known to start amidst snow flurries and winter temperatures, I am hoping to find replacement equipment before the season starts. If you or anyone you know has a cooktop/stove which they would be willing to donate, please let me know!! EVENTS CORDINATOR Angie Vance avance@wayneband.org PLEASE we need your help to make these upcoming concessions a success. Track season is coming up very quickly, so s a FB posts will be coming VERY soon to sign up. We need more volunteers than for basketball season so it is important EVERYONE comes out to help a few times each. So schedules are set the week before and we are not dashing to find help, please sign up EARLY :) You can reach me by , on Facebook, or text. Thank you to all who have already volunteered. HEY BAND AND WARRIORETTE PARENTS! You can be a part of the Wayne Music Club, sharing in the decision making process, or volunteer to help out at games and events. It s easy to do, come to our monthly General Meetings. They typically do not last very long and every parent of a Band or Warriorette member is invited. This is a great way to be a part of this terrific organization, which exist solely to benefit the Band and Warriorettes YOUR children! We need YOU to continue the success of the Wayne Music Club! If you have ANY questions, contact any member of the WMC Executive Board; contact information is in every Drumbeat issue and on our website! ADMINSITRATIVE ASSISTANT Amy Williams awilliams@wayneband.org Notes from the February Meeting ~New WMC Board member nominated: Monica Allen for Warriorette uniforms ~Reviewed this year's registration process for Marching Band and Warriorettes-more details to be available soon ~Upcoming concessions for Wizards game and track seasonplease sign up! This helps reduce the cost for Marching Band/ Warriorettes, it is vital that our students or any members of our students family provide coverage for all of our concession opportunities! Otherwise, the money has to be shared with other clubs that help us and our students may end up paying higher costs ~New uniforms to be ordered and our credit to be applied to help reduce the final cost ~Looking into adding some fund raising opportunities to help reduce Marching Band/Warriorette costs to students/families.
