Mini Groovers Dance Education Program Dance Power has created its own unique Mini Groovers preschool dance program that has solid foundations in early childhood education. Classes involve the use of imagery, free dance, props, story and role play to develop and nurture a pre-schooler s natural passion for movement and music. Mini Groovers Classes include; -LET S DANCE This is a half an hour variety class that includes tap, jazz, singing, music and a whole lot of fun! Children will learn to move their bodies in sync with the beat of traditional and modern upbeat music, all whilst building self-esteem, movement and social skills. -TUTU S AND TIARA S This is a half an hour ballet class where young children can build their confidence, make friends, learn manners, discipline and respect while developing their basic ballet technique, coordination, musicality, balance and posture. Singing In 2016 we will be offering singing lessons! These classes will work on vocal technique, artistic creativity, performance skills and industry preparation. Most importantly students will enjoy a love for singing with complete vocal freedom and creativity. I am very excited to announce Kelly Griffith as our new singing teacher to the Dance Power team! Kelly is a delightful young lady who is really passionate about music. She has had vocal

2 training from a very young age and has been lucky enough to have some very talented and experienced teachers to guide her in her studies. Kelly also plays piano and keyboard and has been an active member of musicals on the Central Coast. Kelly is also part of a 3 piece alternative Electronic Indie pop band named "Elaska". She currently teaches at Gina Jeffery's Singing Studio and loves teaching students of all ages. Kelly and I have talked at length about my visions for singing in the studio (some of you may not know this but I have also done extensive singing training and was a vocal coach for many years). Kelly and I are both on the same page with making sure that all students feel happy and confident and have no pressure, only enjoyment as they learn. We will start the singing lessons as group lessons but might expand to private lessons in the future. Classes for singing will be held in Studio 3 (in the room upstairs). We really look forward to having Kelly in our studio each Thursday and can't wait to see the students try out their vocal skills in a fun and friendly environment. Commercial Jazz Commercial Jazz combines a myriad of jazz elements and a bit of hip hop to produce an energetic style that is seen in video clips and commercial performances. It is a great fuse of technique and personal style and is a great class for any student looking for a fun and exciting new challenge! Musical Theatre Musical theatre was such a big hit in 2015 that we decided to include more classes for all ages. There will be two musical theatre classes running, one for junior/intermediate and one for senior/open aged students. These classes are filled with fun and drama providing students to gain valuable character building and self-confidence.

There are only a few restrictions on classes which are in the best interests of the dancer s progression. These include: 10/12yrs- In order to do lyrical, dancers must also do ballet class. Senior/Opens-In order to do lyrical and/or contemporary, dancers must also do a technique class. Pre-Elementary and Elementary Ballet Must do at least one technique class per week but it preferred that you do both technique classes.

In 2016, due to work commitments Miss Obelia will no longer be teaching at the studio. Obelia has been a very valuable member of our team for many years now and I want to wish her the very best for the future. Kristen Box and Jaylah Nakhoul will be training in Sydney but I have asked both girls to be guest teachers. I am sure we will see them in the studio throughout the year. STUDENT TEACHERS We require some student teachers in To be a student teacher you must be 12yrs and up. It is preferred that you are training in Classical Ballet exam work. We would prefer the student teachers are working their way towards getting formal qualifications. 6 EXAMS 2016 Every year students undertake exams in classical ballet. It is not compulsory for students to do exams when taking a Ballet class. This choice is to be decided between the parent and student. You will be advised after our mid-year concert if your child is ready to do an exam or not. If your child is confident and prepared we strongly suggest your child does sit for their exam. Sitting an exam is beneficial for your child in many ways: For students, examinations provide something to strive for, helping children to acquire skills in a structured and disciplined, yet enjoyable way. Students can acquire a strong sense of achievement in progression through examination grades. For students who want to seek professional careers in dance/teaching sitting exams provide evidence that they are well trained. For parents, examinations provide an independent assessment of the standard their child is achieving. It also allows a parent to confirm that the child is progressing and that the investment of time and money in dance lessons is worthwhile. OVERSEAS TOURS Dance Power has been lucky enough to do several overseas tours with our dancers, which has included: 2009 Hong Kong- performed at Disneyland, Avenue of the stars and Ocean Park USA (LA West Coast) - performed at Disneyland, Hollywood Blvd, Universal studios and workshops at Disney and The Edge USA (Florida) - performed at Disneyworld, Universal Studios, workshops at Disney and Broadway Dance Centre, and Caribbean cruise. We would like to continue the tradition of sending our dancers and families on these once in a lifetime tours. These tours are open to all Dance Power families and students. We will keep you updated with information on our next overseas tour. We have had a lot of interest in a cruise so I will keep you posted.

7 Dedicated Dancers In 2015 we started a program for our dancers that were interested in doing extra activities involving dance. These students were taken to Homebush for the Australian Dance Festival, undertook a two day workshop with the talented and popular Stephen Tannos to learn a unique routine Creator and also workshops with Australian Ballet dancer Shaun Andrews and much more. In 2016 there will be both Junior and Senior Dedicated Dancer programs. We are inviting all dancers to AUDITION for this program on SUNDAY 6 th MARCH at our studios. Last year we had Sam Parkes and Tiffany Duncan as guest teachers and judges. It was an excellent experience for any young dancer. Returning members must still audition in 2016 and are not guaranteed a spot in the group. In 2016 we will have a guest choreographer take the students through a workshop. Then the students will be asked to prepare and perform a routine for our guest teacher and Dance Power staff. We have high expectations for students wanting to be a part of the 2016 Dedicated Dancers program, which includes; excellent technique, flexibility and tricks including turns, leaps and kicks. Students auditioning should be enrolled in technique classes, lyrical, jazz, eisteddfod classes. It is preferred that they are also attending ballet, hip hop and acro classes. Some plans for our Dedicated Dancers in 2016 include: Workshops with guest teachers of many dance genres Australian Ballet educational programs Australian Dance Festival Extra concert routines and much more

8 COMMUNICATION OF INVOICES, NEWSLETTERS ETC In 2016 we will continue to all invoices to parents. All newsletters, timetables and workshops will also be ed out and can be viewed on our website. Dance Power communicates via s and to be a part of this service you must have and provide a valid address. Please ensure that all records up to date. If you do not have access to an /computer can you please contact the office and we will organise a printed version to be given to your child during class. There is also a copy of these letters in the studio foyer. If students and parents both want to receive the newsletter please let us know and we can send them to both. NOTE: please let us know if you are not receiving any s or if you have problems opening up the s. Enrolment Details 2016 YOU CAN NOW ENROL ONLINE! To continue with our paperless trend you can now head over to our website at and follow the prompts to enrol your child/ren in classes at Dance Power. To make things a lot simpler from an administration point of view we would appreciate if you could enrol this way rather than through the paper forms. It is a very simple and easy process! We understand that some people may not have internet access and would prefer the traditional way of enrolling through our forms and therefore enrolment can still be completed this way.

9 UNIFORMS Uniform will be COMPULSORY in 2016 for all students aged 12 Years and Under. Students may choose to wear any style from our DP UNIFORM selection that is suitable for the class they are attending (e.g. DP leotard for ballet, ruffle set or skirt and mesh singlet for jazz etc.). Senior and Open students are encouraged to wear suitable dancewear. Saturdays will be left as a mufti day for all students to wear any suitable dance clothing to class. We have an exciting new range of uniforms that all ages will love! These will be available to view and order/purchase on our registration day (23 rd January) as well as throughout the year. There is a wide variety of styles to choose from for all our dancers. The prices are listed below. 10 FEE POLICY 2016 Class Fees $120 per 45 minute class per 10 week term $130 per 60 minute class per 10 week term $30 per 30 minute Private class Unlimited Pass for dance lessons: Tiny Junior $45 weekly Sub Junior $50 weekly Junior $55 weekly Intermediate $60 weekly Senior $65 weekly Registration Fee and Insurance Fee: $20 High school students $30 Primary school students (fee includes Participation Trophy) Charging Fees Not every term is 10 weeks, so your invoice will be adjusted accordingly to reflect how many weeks in the current term. Registration Fees are a one off payment for each student each year and are payable with the first invoice following enrolment. Public holidays: We do not run classes on public holidays. You will not be charged for public holidays. However for those students with unlimited passes, fees are NOT adjusted for public holidays, and your regular weekly deposit continues. Family Discount: Family discounts are available to families with more than one child enrolled in classes. Families with 2 children enrolled receive a 10% discount; families with 3 children enrolled receive a 20% discount. The discount stops at 20%. Unlimited passes are charged a higher rate for Senior students due to the length of senior classes and also the standard. Private classes: These must be paid for whether you attend or not. A make-up class will only be granted if there is a time available and is at the teacher's discretion. Ceasing at your request: The office requires two week s notice of your child's intention to discontinue classes. Fees are charged up to and including the two-week notification period whether the child attends or not. A cheque for any refund will be issued. Note: after week 10 term 2, costume fund deposits will not be refunded as materials for costumes have been purchased. Additional Costs Please be aware up front that there are additional costs on top of fees, and we feel it s important that you are aware of these so you can budget for them. All dance schools have these additional costs. These are all the costs for the year: Rehearsals: All students involved in our end of year concert will need to attend a dress rehearsal and technical rehearsal. The total fee for rehearsals ranges from $15 - $20. Exam Fees: Ballet Australasia Limited charges a fee if your child is doing ballet exams.

11 Costumes: In terms 1 & 2 you will be invoiced for your deposits towards your child s costume for the concert. A $15 deposit will be added to your invoice for each class. After term 2 then, you will have $30 per class in your costume fund. In term 3, you will receive a notice telling you how much your costume(s) cost, and you will be asked to finalise this account before the dress rehearsal. Fee Payments All invoices must either be paid IN FULL during week 1 of each term. Payments may be made by cash, cheque, or direct deposit. Correct cash amounts or cheque payments should be placed in a sealed envelope with your invoice slip into the Fees letterbox in the front reception area inside the studio. Please do not give fees to teachers. Payments made by direct deposit need to be paid in advance of the due date to allow for processing delays. Deposits are to be placed into the following account: BSB Account Number Please make sure payments are clearly referenced with your child s full name so that we can easily identify your payment. If we cannot identify your payment this will cause delays and may result in your account being charged a late payment surcharge. Unlimited passes: Unlimited passes may be paid weekly in advance by direct deposit. Cash or cheques are not acceptable forms of weekly payment. Weekly deposits must be made on the Monday of each week during term for classes attended during that week. Please note: be careful not to set up your payments to be continuous as this will allow payments to be made during the holidays. Fees may be paid by instalments on request in exceptional circumstances, however your account will include a 10% surcharge on the invoice total to cover the additional admin costs. Receipts: If a receipt is required, you must request this with your payment. We cannot issue receipts that are requested after payments have been made. Dishonoured cheques: Dishonoured cheques incur a $20 admin fee and the amount outstanding must be paid in cash only. Any further payments made thereafter MUST ALSO BE PAID IN CASH. Overdue accounts: A 10% surcharge will be applied to overdue accounts. In relation to any accounts that remain unpaid after the surcharge has been applied, dance power reserves the right to exclude those students from participating in classes until their accounts have been settled. 12 Dance Power Details Thank you for choosing to enrol at Dance Power. We hope that your child will enjoy their time at our studio. As a parent I understand the importance of making sure your child is in a dance studio that provides a safe environment to learn in. I want every parent to be aware that at Dance Power we take this responsibility very seriously. We encourage you to look through our OH&S policy that is located in our foyer. Dance Power has public liability insurance for all students participating in classes. All teachers/contractors have workers compensation insurance. o Policy Number: SUA Dance Power also has a current certificate with APRA providing a music copyright for all public performances, communication and/or reproduction of copyright music. o APRA Policy Number: Dance Power has a current annual fire safety statement with Wyong Shire Council. Susan Shereb, Mark Douglas, Jessica Issa and Emma Walsh all hold a first aid certificate. Dance Power is a registered business. Susan Shereb and staff have a working with children certificate.

13 Website and Social Media Release Form At Dance Power we like to promote our activities and celebrate student s achievements through our social media pages and website. Please sign this consent form to give us permission to publish you and your child s name, image or video in various media. I parent/guardian for (insert child name/s if under 18 years) grant permission for Dance Power to use and publish details including my/our names, event outcomes and achievements, photographs/images, audio or video footage of my child/ren or myself for promotional purposes on the their social media and online channels (websites, Facebook, Instagram etc.), in newsletters and occasional main media such as related websites or newspapers. I understand that any details, images, video or audio taken may be seen in a public environment.
