2 MAKE IT FUN Prepare to offer one or more of the following activities as your preschoolers arrive. Let one or two teachers lead small groups of children in activities throughout the room while another teacher greets parents and kids at the door. Jump Color Match Friendship MAKE IT TRUE (LARGE GROUP) Worship Bible Story These activities are designed to help preschoolers understand and remember today s Bible story and Bottom Line. Offer as many of the following activities as your time, facilities, resources, and leadership allow. You may want to lead one activity at a time. Or, offer two activities at once and allow half the kids to participate in each, then switch groups and repeat the activities. MOVEMENT An activity that uses a preschooler s natural desire to move to help them learn and grow. JUMP Jump is an activity that introduces this week s Bible story while children jump in and out of a tape circle. WHAT YOU NEED: Painter s tape Before the Activity: Make a large circle on the floor with painter s tape. (Note: If possible in your space, leave the tape circle for Week.) During the Activity: Stand on the outside of the tape circle together. Count to two out loud and jump in. Turn to face the outside, count to two, and jump out. Repeat as many times as desired. After the Activity: Have the children sit on the tape circle while you introduce the Bible story. Before the Activity: Hello, boys and girls! Come stand around this great big circle with me! During the Activity: OK, everybody ready? (Pause.) Help me count to two. One, two! Very good! Now jump in the circle with me. (Pause.) Yay! Now turn around and count to two again. One, two! Now jump out! (Pause.) Yay! Let s do it again! (Repeat as many times as desired.) After the Activity: That was so much fun! Sit down on the tape. (Pause.) GAME An activity that encourages preschoolers to follow guidelines while having fun and learning new concepts. COLOR MATCH Color Match is an activity that introduces this week s Bible story while children match up colored pom-poms. WHAT YOU NEED: Paper plates and multi-colored pom-poms Before the Activity: Place the paper plates and pom-poms on the table. During the Activity: Have kids find two of each color pom-pom and place them on their plate. Help kids count out and name the colors. Repeat as many times as desired. After the Activity: Introduce the Bible story. Before the Activity: Hello, friends. Come sit with me at the table. Look at all the pom-poms. There are lots of pretty colors! To play this game, you have to find two of every color pom-pom and put them on your plate. During the Activity: Are you ready? (Pause.) Pick up one, two of the green pompoms. (Pause.) One, two blue pompoms. (Pause.) One, two red pompoms. (Pause.) One, two yellow pompoms. (Pause.) Great job! Keep going! (Continue until the kids have two of several colors.) When I call out a color I want you to pick up that color of pom-pom in each hand. Ready? (Pause.) Green! (Pause.) Blue. (Pause.) Red. (Pause.) Yellow. (Pause.) Fantastic! Put all the pompoms back on the table. After the Activity: That was fun! You did a great job picking two of each color! INVESTIGATION/ROLE PLAY An activity that channels either a preschooler s innate curiosity or desire to play dress up into a discussion of concepts crucial to the lesson. FRIENDSHIP Friendship is an activity that introduces this week s Bible story while children pair up to look through books about friendship. WHAT YOU NEED: Children s books about friendship You can find book suggestions on the May 016 Pinterest board found on the First Look Curriculum s Pinterest page: Before the Activity: Make a special reading area, or stand books up on a table. During the Activity: Have kids look at the books and talk about them. Pair the kids up as book buddies. Swap books a few times. After the Activity: Introduce the Bible story. Before the Activity: We have some new books to look at today! They are all about friendship! During the Activity: Sit down with me, book buddies! You two share this book, and you two share this one. (Continue handing out books.) What do you see in your book? (Pause.) How are they being friends? (Pause.) That s neat. What about your book? (Pause.) How are the people in your book being friends? (Pause.) Let s look at this book together. (Read a book aloud and encourage kids to point out acts of friendship.) When you see something in the book that shows friendship, raise your hand. (Repeat as many times as desired.) After the Activity: That was a lot of fun being book buddies and reading about friendship. That s what our Bible story is about today: friendship! WORDS AND MOTIONS Words and Motions is an activity that helps kids learn the words and motions to this month s Memory Verse. WHAT YOU NEED: No supplies needed Before the Activity: Spread out in an open area in the room. During the Activity: Teach the kids the words and motions for this month s Memory Verse. Repeat as many times as desired. After the Activity: Say the Bottom Line together. Before the Activity: Come spread out in a circle around me. (Pause.) We have a new Memory Verse and motions to learn today! During the Activity: I m going to say the new verse and do the motions and then we ll do it together. Watch and listen. Two (hold up two fingers) people (touch your shoulders) are better (raise your arms overhead to form a circle) than one (hold up one finger). They can help (pound one fist on top of the other) each other (touch the person next to you on the shoulder) in everything they do (raise your hands overhead and jump up), Ecclesiastes 4:9. (Open your hands like a book.) Okay, this time let s do it together. (Repeat slowly.) Super job! Sit down on the floor right where you are. B I B L E S T O R Y R E V I E W BIBLE STORY REVIEW An activity that reviews the entire Bible story in a fun and interactive way allowing preschoolers that repetition they crave. DAVID AND JONATHAN is an activity that allows kids to help retell the Bible story while putting together a puzzle. WHAT YOU NEED: DJ Puzzle from the Activity Pages found on the Website, cardstock, scissors, and laminate. Before the Activity: Copy DJ Puzzle on cardstock. Laminate and cut out. During the Activity: Retell the Bible story. Put the puzzle together. After the Activity: Say the Bottom Line. Before the Activity: Raise your hand if you have a best friend! I have a best friend too! Did you know that God gives you good friends? (Pause.) It s true. Our Bible story today is all about two good friends named. During the Activity: Friends, can you help me put this puzzle together? (Pause.) Super! (Work on the puzzle together as you tell the story.) Jonathan was the king s son. And David worked for King Saul and his family. But they were still best friends. ate together and had fun together. When Jonathan would tell David something important, he knew that David wouldn t tell anyone else. They truly were best buds. They shared everything. Jonathan gave David the robe off his back. And he gave him his sword. And he gave him his bow. Jonathan even gave David his belt! David loved Jonathan. And Jonathan loved David. They both wanted to honor God and they knew that God had given them each other as friends. Look at our puzzle! You did a great job helping me put it all together! It s a picture of! RHYME TIME Rhyme Time is an activity that introduces this week s Bible story while encouraging kids to learn a fun friendship rhyme. WHAT YOU NEED: No supplies needed Before the Activity: Stand together in a circle holding hands. During the Activity: Sing the song below to the tune of Ring Around the Rosie while moving around in a circle. Fall to the floor on the last line. Continue as long as there is interest. After the Activity: Say the Bottom Line together. Before the Activity: Boys and girls, come stand with me in a circle. During the Activity: Hold hands with me. Let s walk in a circle while we sing. God gives you friends. God gives you friends. I m your friend. You re my friend. We all fall down. Great job! Let s do it again! (Repeat as many times as desired.) After the Activity: That was so much fun! Everybody sit where you are. I m your friend (point to all the kids) and you are my friend. God gives us good friends. were good friends too. CRAFT An activity that allows preschoolers to review the Bible story, bottom line or memory verse by creating a fun craft to take home. FRIENDSHIP PAINTING Friendship Painting is an activity that reintroduces the Bible story while children are paired up to make a shared picture. WHAT YOU NEED: Friends from the Activity Pages found on the Website, white cardstock, dot markers, scissors, and a permanent pen Before the Activity: Copy Friends on cardstock, one copy per two kids. Do not cut the pages apart. Pair up the kids and give each pair a page and some dot markers. During the Activity: Talk about the Bible story as the pairs work to cover their paper with dot markers. Write children s name on the blanks on both sides and cut apart. Set the pages aside to dry. After the Activity: Say the Bottom Line together. You can see a sample of this craft on the May 016 Pinterest board found on the First Look Curriculum s Pinterest page. Before the Activity: In our Bible story we heard a story about friendship. You are going to make a together picture. You two, you two, and you two are going to make a pretty picture by using these dot markers on your paper. During the Activity: We learned about. They were really good friends. Jonathan was the king s son. And David worked for King Saul and his family. They ate together and had fun together. When Jonathan would tell David something important, he knew that David wouldn t tell anyone else. They truly were best buds. They shared everything. David loved Jonathan. And Jonathan loved David. They both wanted to honor God and they knew that God had given them each other as friends. Start dabbing your paper with the markers. (Pause.) Now switch markers. (Pause.) Look how nice your picture is! Now I ll write your name on your paper and cut it in half and you each have a part of your art!
