2 On This Day in History 1818 Illinois was admitted as the 21 st state of the Union Andrew Jackson was elected president of the United States Oberlin College in Ohio opened as the first coeducational college in the United States The neon lamp was displayed for the first time in Paris, France In Cape Town, South Africa, the first human heart transplant was performed.
3 Crayola ColorCycle Grissom Patriots are collecting used markers and highlighters (any brand) to be converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook meals and more! Green collection boxes will be in each classroom and on the bench outside the Commons. The program can keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year. Remember, don t throw out that used marker ColorCycle it!
4 Box Tops for Education The PE department is collecting Box Tops for Education. Please turn them in to your PE/Health teacher.
5 Yearbook It s not too early to order your 2019 Grissom Yearbook! Forms are available in the rack outside the Main Office. You can also order online at
6 Board Game Club Board Game club will meet after school Tuesday in the Art Room.

8 Girls 6th/7th Basketball Congratulations to the Lady Patriots on their victory over Palos South on Saturday! Good luck against Jerling on Wednesday!!
9 Pizza Party! The Patriots 6 th /7 th Pizza Party will be after practice Tuesday until 5:00.
10 6 th /7 th Grade Girls Volleyball Tryouts for 6 th /7 th grade girls volleyball will be from 4:45-7:00 pm on Monday, Dec. 10 th and from 7:30-8:30 am on Tuesday, Dec. 11 th. Permission slips are in the rack outside the Main Office. Forms must returned by Dec. 7 th to Coach Chicvara.
11 Festival of Literary Trees Join us in celebrating the holidays in the Media Center by decorating a tree (under 2 ft.) based upon your favorite book. All trees must be submitted by December 13th, after which students will vote for a winner during their library time. One lucky winner will receive a $20 Amazon gift card!
12 Winter Concerts The District 140 Music Concert season is upon us! The Chorus Winter Concert is tomorrow at 7:30 here at Grissom. The Symphonic and Concert Bands will perform Wednesday at 7:30, also here at Grissom.
13 KEA SCHOLARSHIP SUNSHINE PINS Student Council will be selling 1-inch Sunshine Pins for $3 each in honor and remembrance of beloved teacher Ms. Abby Ohl. SALE DATES: Dec. 3-7: Students may purchase pins during lunch Dec. 17: Community may purchase pins from 5-7 pm in the Grissom commons In recognition of Ms. Ohl s love for her students and teaching, the Kirby Education Association (KEA) will award a scholarship in her name to a graduating Andrew senior who plans to major in Special Education. Proceeds from these sales will be used to fund the scholarship. Thanks for your support!
14 Cheer/Dance All students interested in trying out for Cheer/Dance must attend the clinic on Tuesday, Dec. 4 th. Tryouts will be held after school on Wednesday, Dec. 5 th. Permission forms are in the rack outside the Main Office and must be turned in to Mrs. Griffin (Room 210) no later than Friday, Nov. 30 th.

17 You Can Do the Cube Returns! Come to the Media Center and borrow a Rubik s Cube to help complete a mosaic image! In order to participate, you must meet the following requirements: *No fines! *No overdue books! *You must have your ID with you!
18 Chorus Chorus will rehearse after school on Mondays only during the month of December.
19 Ronald McDonald House Charities Grissom is once again collecting pop tabs to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities! The pop tabs are recycled and sold for scrap metal. Last year, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana raised more than $40,000 from this program. There is a collection box on the bench outside the Commons for your donations.
20 Student Support Student Support is held in the Media Center before school every day from 8:00 8:35 and after school Monday through Thursday from 3:10-4:05. Please be sure to bring your work with you! You will need to sign in and stay the entire time. If you are a bus rider, please remember to sign up for the activity bus that day!
21 Water Bottle Filling Station Challenge Last year Grissom Patriots saved 10,263 plastic water bottles from ending up in landfills by using the water bottle filling stations throughout the building. So far this year, we have saved 5,137 bottles! Please remember to use these instead of plastic bottles!
