Contestants and whoever is/are assisting them are to arrive at 5:00 PM. If contestant requested and scheduled a stage rehearsal time, contestant must arrive at that time. 5 Court Eligibility and Applications Eligibility To be eligible to apply for the Homecoming Court, a student must meet the following requirements: 1. Possess a cumulative GPA of 2.80 or above. All GPAs will be verified through Panthersoft. 2. Be a full-time student at FIU registered for at least 12 undergraduate credits or six graduate credits. Seniors who are enrolled in less than 12 undergraduate credits must contact the Court Affairs Chair. 3. Be in good financial, judicial, and academic standing with the university. 4. Must currently be in at least one involvement at FIU (other than a Greek organization). 5. Depending on completed credit standing, the homecoming nominee will be able to represent one of the following court positions: a. Sophomores: 0-59 completed credits - Duke & Duchess b. Juniors: completed credits - Prince & Princess c. Seniors: 90+ completed credits - King & Queen *Transfer credits apply *Credits In-Progress do not count toward completed credits Applications 1. All students who are interested and qualified to apply for Homecoming Court must submit the application no later than Monday, September 12th by 11:45 PM. The application can be found online at hc.fiu.edu under Events. Late submissions will not be accepted. 2. All applicants must schedule and attend an interview. Failure to attend an interview will result in automatic disqualification. a. Candidates must be dressed in business attire. b. Candidates will be interviewed by a panel of faculty and/or staff. c. Interviews will be scored on a point-based evaluation sheet. 3. The pageant will take place before voting 5

6 Rules for Campaigning 1. Homecoming Court elections will take place October from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Voting in MMC will be in the GC computer labs. Voting in BBC will be in the AC1 Atrium. 2. Anyone is permitted to campaign for any candidate, but only the candidate is allowed to pass out the homecoming flyer. A violation will be issued for this infraction. 3. Candidates are permitted to campaign not only at school, but also through social media beginning October 2nd at 12:00 AM. Campaigning through social media includes the use of Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Google+, servers, etc. The use of educational sites such as Blackboard and Moodle to campaign are not permitted. A violation will be issued for this infraction. 4. Personal computers, laptops, phones, and tablets, cannot be set up as polling stations by any individual or team during the election. Students are not allowed to pass any of these devices around either to serve for voting purposes. A violation will be issued for this infraction. 5. Absolutely no bashing of other candidates or teams. If any Homecoming Council member becomes aware of this behavior, he or she will be disqualified. 6. No promotional materials (pens, shirts, food, etc.) are permitted with the exception of the homecoming flyer, which will be provided by the Homecoming Council. A violation will be issued for this infraction. 7. Candidates are allowed one poster board (2 X3 ) to promote themselves and FIU. The poster may not have anything regarding the following: a. Homecoming Council members b. Past/Present Court Title holders c. Current court candidates d. Greek affiliation The Homecoming Council has the discretion to deny any poster if it is not appropriate in size or content. It will be due on October 7th in the Homecoming Office (GC 2214). They will be displayed in the GC Pit / AC 1 on voting day. 6

7 Rules for Campaigning (cont.) 8. Violations will only be issued by the Homecoming Council. If the Homecoming Council does not witness infraction, a violation will not be issued. 9. To ensure that candidates are following the campaigning rules, candidates must become social media friends with the following people: a. Court Affairs Chair b. Rules and Regulations Chairs c. Assistant Director of Administration d. Overall Director 10. Candidates must add the individuals mentioned above on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram upon the submission of their application. 7

8 Unleash the Crown The pageant will consist of the following: 1. Candidates must arrive two hours prior to the time the pageant begins, or at the time they were scheduled to rehearse if requested. Tardiness is unacceptable and will result in a deduction of points from pageant score. 2. If candidates wish to practice the pageant on stage, they must notify the Court Affairs Chair at least 72 hours in advance. 3. The pageant is divided into the following rounds: a. Presentation i. Candidates will present in FIU attire to show Panther Pride and will state the following: 1. Name 2. Involvement(s) on campus 3. Favorite FIU Memory b. Talent i. Candidates will perform a talent that makes them stand out. The talent must incorporate FIU in some way ii. Monologues will not be permitted iii. Must be performed live on stage. No videos are permitted unless it complements the live performance iv. There is a maximum of 3 minutes (performance will stop at 3 minutes) c. FIU Trivia/Formal Wear i. Candidates must answer three questions about the university correctly to stay in the running for Homecoming Court ii. Candidates will be able to showcase their formal wear d. Closing i. Last round of the pageant will consist of candidates stating why they deserve to win their respective titles Duke/Duchess will be crowned at the Unleash the Crown Pageant Prince/Princess will be crowned at Panther s Got Talent King and Queen will be crowned at Homecoming Game 8

9 Attendance Tardiness and absentness will not be accepted this year. By applying to run for Homecoming Court, candidates need to understand that this is a commitment. Just like a job, do not arrive late or skip any mandatory meetings/events/etc. Everyone has other commitments such as school, work, family, relationships, etc., but if a candidate makes it evident that their attendance is a problem, they will be removed immediately. That being said, you must follow these rules to stay in the process: 1. All candidates are official ambassadors for the promotion of school spirit. They are mandated to attend all 2016 Homecoming events that require said candidate to be presented to the audience and are strongly encouraged to attend all other Homecoming events. 2. Candidates must and can only check in and check out with the Court Affairs Chairperson unless otherwise stated by the Court Affairs Chairperson herself at all events. It is each candidate s responsibility to locate the Court Affairs Chair the moment that he or she arrives to an event and leaves the event for attendance and punctuality. Being tardy will result in a deduction of points from the candidate s pageant score. 3. Failure to attend all events without a valid excuse will result in the disqualification and/or revocation of the crown. 4. Just because a participant wins a title, does not mean that title is permanent. It will be up to the individuals to carry it out to its full potential. Please take into consideration whether attendance will be an issue or not before applying. The Homecoming Council is on a strict schedule and will disqualify anyone who does not follow it. Participants may feel free to the Court Affairs Chair at any time if they do not feel as if they can continue with the process. 9

10 Responsibilities and Expectations 1. Homecoming winners will be representing the Homecoming Council and will show school spirit before, during, and after the 2016 Homecoming Court is announced 2. The final candidates for Duke and Duchess and Prince/ Princess and King/Queen will be required to attend all Homecoming Events 3. The Homecoming Court is expected to go to as many FIU Sporting Events (specifically football) as possible wearing their crown and sash 4. They must behave according to the FIU Student Code of Conduct 5. Winners must attend FIU events throughout the fall and spring semester hosted by the Homecoming Council 6. Above all, must be a model student of FIU. You are a representation of our university. You do not do the bare minimum. You go above and beyond! 10
