1 Tribal Tribune It's about respect! I ve Got Your Back By: Amanda Mason On Wednesday, March 14th, there was a walk-out that was optional to the students. The walkout mainly stood for the 17 people who died in the Parkland School shooting, but many other people walked out for their own personal reasons. According to Dr.Newcome in a recent , There were a modest number (approximately 250) who participated in the walk-out in a manner that was respectful to their peers. On that day Octorara focused on reminding students to be kind to one another and continuing it through the rest of your school career. Octorara has now taken on the aevidum movement which means, I ve Got Your Back. This is to remind students to always be there for each other. Now that you have read this I want you to carry the I ve Got Your Back saying through your everyday life. Check out the hands and signs posted around school, to remind yourself of ways to be there for each other! Neck Slapping By Alexander Neck Slapper Yelovich Most of us are aware of how the infamous slapping of necks swept the Junior High as the new big thing. But like most big things, they are tragically stripped from our everyday lives with authorities taking control of fads. Neck slapping was a thing you saw everywhere. You simply get a colleague to look at your thumb while it s pressed against your index and middle finger, and boom. Your palm now has every right to swoop down and smack the friend s neck or at least, that was how it worked....if you are slapping other students necks, you will receive a day of ISS, says Mr. Propper, announcing the downfall of yet another hopeful fad. At this point, one would assume it s over, gone the way of the miniature ceiling fans. But no. There s a new way. A way that shows just how dedicated a group will commit to their own game. You may now slap your own neck. This gives the students a chance to have fun, and be responsible. You know, fun! Oh the relentless joy fountaining from the game that never gets old. The game of Neckbone! When will this wonderful game end? Never! I would rather have the hand of God himself smite my neck like it s never been slapped before than go a single day without enjoying the the- whatever. You get it, the neck game. We may as well ban necks if we want this to stop. This is the golden age of fads. But alas, all good and right things must come to an end, correct? For would we ever have begun to neckslap if miniature ceiling fans were never banned?

2 Will 7th and 8th graders not have to take a gym class in High School? By: Elizabeth Meyer Is gym a neccesity or not? Gym usually takes up from around half a period to a period, so with cramming in all of these other classes, student-athletes need to find room for gym, which can be difficult. But, if you play a sport and you wouldn t have to take a gym you could have a free period to do some of your homework or take a needed class. The Octorara School District, based on new rules from the state, might not make the kids who are involved with a sports team have to take a gym class because they will still receive some credits that will go towards graduating from high school, for their sport. So, if you don t want to have to take a gym you might want to consider playing a school sport next year. Stay tuned for the announcement of how the new rule will work! GYM: My Best Advice By: Evelyn The Evaluator If you have gym class then you understand how hard it can be. Not only trying to pass fitness tests, but trying to survive. Like when you are playing dodgeball. That game is terrifying. People are throwing balls at you from all directions. You have to fend for yourself. And the running. If you trip going at a full speed run, that is pure agony itself. You can almost hear the skin from your knee screaming from the gym floor. Now: let's talk about collisions. You could run into someone at a full speed run and get a concussion. That is why some people get a little scared every time they have to run in gym class. And the stretching, don't even get me started on the stretching. Beware, make sure to give yourself a lot of room while stretching, things can go bad really quick. You always have to make sure that when you are in gym to give yourself room and to not die. In conclusion, remember to stay safe in gym, there are always witnesses to humiliating circumstances. Music reviews and more! Mason s Movie Review By: Amanda Mason Have any of you heard of the movies Coco and The Greatest Showman? If you haven t watched them yet I highly suggest you do. In the movie Coco you get to learn about The Day of the Dead. The plot of the movie is that all the main character, Miguel, wants is to have music in the family, but after a tragedy in the family involving music, music has been banned. When Miguel gets to the land of the dead he meets a man named Hector and their goal together is to not let Hector gbeet forgotten. This movie has many plot twists that will surprise you. The Greatest Showman is based on P.T Barnum and how he wanted to create a unique show. The first scene captivates you with the song The Greatest Show with many talented performers, which turns out to be what he dreams of making. In this movie there are many shocking moments and plot twists too. This movie has an amazing soundtrack! The Greatest Showman won the 2018 Golden Globe for, Best Original Song which went to their song, This Is Me. Coco also won a 2018 Golden Globe for, Best Animated Feature Film. Check both of these out as soon as you can!

3 MUSIC REVIEWS By: Evelyn The Evaluator LAUV The band LAUV is a great band. The band came out in 2015 and wrote a hit immediately. The singer, Ari Straprans Leff, is a 23 year old man with a dance/electronic genre. You might have heard the song I Like me Better. If you have, then you can hear that Ari can sing. He has many hits such as I Like me Better, such as Paris in the rain, and Easy Love. The song Paris in the rain is quite an acquired taste, meaning that you have to listen to the song for a while before learning to love it. I would suggest this song to anyone who likes a light song or background. This is great band and I would definitely suggest this band to you. KNOW IT ALL Alessia Cara is a 21 year old popstar, singer and songwriter. She came out with her first album in 2015 called Know It All. The song Scars To Your Beautiful was her biggest hit yet. She is an amazing singer with a very strong and classy voice. A great song of hers to listen to would be Four Pink Walls. In my opinion, it was the best song in her album yet. You should definitely listen to her album, it is really well done. THE SCHOOL MUSICAL: Fiddler on the Roof By: Maddie French The School Musical. It sounds so simple. Kind of. But, the fact that we ve all worked and bonded together over the past two months, isn t. As a seventh grader in the production, it has been so much fun to act with the seniors in their last months at Octorara. I ve been able to look up to them and hope to follow in their footsteps on stage. A LOT of time goes into these shows by the way. While you re at home relaxing on a Saturday, we re on stage rehearsing for a solid five hours or so. And that s just the weekend! Not saying it s not fun though! It s amazing! It s especially cool to be there the last week before shows start. Eat dinner there with your friends every night and watching the sets, costumes, lights, props, drops, scenes, music, makeup, dances, mics, dialogue, and finishing touches all fit themselves in. It s also very emotional though. When the curtain closes for the last time that year, and we re screaming with the audience behind it, there s just this emotion that comes over you. It makes you want to do it again and again. Which is why behind that curtain there are tears, too. Most of us are laughing and screaming, but the seniors are smiling and happily crying. Some nights I was even found crying a bit. The most credit goes to Mr. Lynch, Ms. Thwaites, and Miss Jess. Mr. Lynch has guided us every step of the way. Every night he s up there in the lighting booth watching us perform. From the start, he was rehearsing our dialogue with us and scheduling rehearsals. There wouldn t be a show without him as our director. Ms. Thwaites has sewn, hemmed and stitched every costume. She s stuck on our beards and tied our aprons for Fiddler. Not to mention getting our makeup right every time. Miss Jess has helped choreograph every movement of our time on stage. She has picked and prodded to make sure we deliver the best dances and details possible every night. Without them, it wouldn t be the same. No musical is the same. Every year we lose some, yet every year more audition. We multiply. Never the same cast once, but each one is just as fun as the last.
