1 Campus Highlights and Events Form - Date Campus Mission High School Submitted by Edilberto Flores Highlights 1 The Mission High School One Act Play Team is advancing out of the DISTRICT level competitions into the BI-DISTRICT FINALS on Thursday, March 22. Mission High School ENCORE Theatre is performing The 39 Steps by Patrick Barlow and John Buchan. In addition to advancing to the Bi-District finals, several of the MHS Encore Theatre Cast and Crew earned special recognitions at the District Competition. They include: Giselle De Leon, Tech Award: Demitre Regehr, All-Star Cast Award; Mason Smith- Loftus, All-Star Cast Award; Alondra Gonzalez, BEST ACTRESS AWARD. 2 The MHS ENCORE THEATRE One Act Play Team is scheduled to perform at the Bi-District finals on Thursday, March 22nd. The competition is being held at the La Joya ISD Performing Arts Center Our Mighty Mission Eagles Baseball Team has had an eventful and dominating Spring Break. On Friday, March 9, they defeated the Weslaco East Wildcats by the score of On Tuesday, March 13, they defeated the Memorial Mustangs by the score of 13-2, and on Friday, March 16, they defeated the LJ Juarez-Lincoln Huskies by the score of Andy Martinez hit a walk-off three run homerun with two outs in the bottom of the 7 th inning to secure the win for the EAGLES. During the game, Andy Martinez also contributed two triples, while Steven Villarreal hit a two run homerun in the fourth inning to keep up with the Huskies. The Eagles play on Tuesday evening, March 20, at Nikki Rowe. This game will
2 determine playoff seeding in the next couple of weeks. Come and support the EAGLES as they continue working towards keeping their winning streak going. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EAGLES!!!!!! On Friday evening, March 9, our Lady Eagles Softball Team defeated the Huskies from LJ Juarez-Lincoln HS by the score of The girls concluded the game on the top of the 5 th by demonstrating SMASHING BATS and ACTIVE GLOVES. Leading the Lady Eagles are Coach P. Aparcio, Coach F. Rios, Coach S. Ovalle, and Coach E. Clemons. Congratulations to our Eagles Boys Soccer Team for defeating the Lobos from Palmview HS on Friday evening, March 9, by the score of 2-0. The boys continue to prepare for the playoffs as they play their last game on Friday, March 23, at Tom Landry HOF Stadium against McHi. Come and support the boys and girls soccer teams as they prepare to conclude the soccer season and prepare for post-season play. Our soccer coaches for this season are Coach C. Barouhas, Coach Martinez, Coach C. De Leon, Coach D. Serrano, Coach W. Proctor, Coach C. Vasquez, Coach C. Gonzalez, and Coach A. Garcia. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EAGLES!!!!!! Our Mighty Mission Eagles Colorguard placed 1 st at the recent Edinburg North Competition on Saturday, March 10. Congratulations to our Colorguard team and band directors. Next, we prepare for the state qualifier in two weeks. During the Spring Break Holidays, our Mission HS M s were moved to the north side of the campus to welcome our visitors and let them know that they are stepping into EAGLE COUNTRY. This traditional, meaningful, and Mission HS artifact was moved the front of the campus to acknowledge, respect, and honor all EX-ALUMNI. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EAGLES!!!!!!

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EAGLES!!!!!! 8 (Left to Right Ashmin Torres, Ruben Cantu, Kenya Salinas, Juan Reyna) Mission High School FBLA Advances Two Members To FBLA National Conference The Mission High School Future Business Leaders of America sent 15 members to compete at the FBLA State Leadership Conference in Dallas, TX on March 8-10, 2018 at the Dallas Hyatt Regency Hotel. The FBLA members advanced by virtue of placing at the FBLA Area IV Leadership Conference held at Mission High School. The MHS FBLA members placing at Area and advancing to State were: Juan Reyna 2 nd Computer Problem Solving, Oscar Ybarra 1 st Cyber Security, Juan Rodriguez -3 rd Accounting II, Roberto Ramirez 3 rd
4 Business Calculations, Ashmin Torres 1 st Database Design and Application, Aaron Relko 2 nd Business Calculations, Jensen Rosales 2 nd Business Communications, Ruben Cantu 1 st Accounting II, Jizzel Maldonado 3 rd Business Communications, Yasmin Castillo 7 th Health Care Administration, Neftaly Rivera 1 st Introduction to Business Communication, Luis Muñoz 2 nd Introduction to Financial Math, Leslie C. Rivera 3 rd Introduction to Financial Math, Rochelle Saenz 4 th Journalism, Kenya Salinas 2 nd Word Processing. At the FBLA State Leadership Conference, Mission High School FBLA was recognized for contributing to the March of Dimes and to the FBLA Endowment Fund of $1 per member every year since its inception in the 1990 s. Leslie C. Rivera was recognized as a Texas FBLA Who s Who Member. Mr. O cana, Mission High School Adviser, was recognized for his 38 years of service to the FBLA organization. Advancing as National Qualifiers are Kenya Salinas who placed 4 th in Word Processing and Juan Reyna who placed 3 rd in Computer Problem Solving. Kenya and Juan will compete June 26 July 2, 2017 at the FBLA National Leadership Conference in Baltimore, MD. Waiting in the wings placing 5 th as alternates were Ashmin Torres in Database Design and Application and Ruben Cantu in Accounting II. 9 Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, Inc. (FBLA-PBL) is the largest career student organization in the world. Each year, FBLA-PBL helps over 230,000 members prepare for careers in business. Our mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs Mission High School FFA Lamb & Goat Exhibitors Experienced Phenomenal Results at this year s RGVLS Mission High School FFA Members had a busy and successful week during Spring Break at the 79 th Annual Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show. Mission FFA members earned multiple Championships and Won many high placing s that earned them a spot in the Premium Auction at this year s Show held in Mercedes, TX from March 8, 2018 March 18, The long list of impressive accomplishments listed below allowed Mission High School to put more animals in the Grand Champion Drive and Premium Auction over any other school or club in the lamb barn. Mission High School FFA also won 2 nd place in the prestigious and extremely competitive Good Housekeeping Award competition in the Lamb Division.
