1 KDA RECITAL HANDBOOK 2018 This Recital Handbook contains all of the extremely important details about our End of the Year Performances PLEASE READ CAREFULLY and keep on hand until the shows! PAGES: 3-4: Dress Rehearsal Schedule: Schedule for Thursday, May 31st and Friday, June 1st. Please read it over and find the days and times in which your student will need to be at the theater for their rehearsal - please remember, if your dancer does not attend the dress rehearsal, they cannot perform in the show, NO exceptions! Also, please remember that there are NO BOYS/MEN allowed in the dressing rooms. No brothers or dads will be allowed past a certain point at the theater. A Classroom Mom can assist your dancer with getting their costume on, but please note this in case you plan to bring any children or have your dancer s dad bring them to the rehearsal. 5: Hair and Makeup: This is required for both the dress rehearsal(s) and performance(s). Please look over and let us know if you have any questions. 6: Costume Requirements: To find out what each dancer needs for each class, hairstyle, etc. 7: Show Orders for 1PM and 5PM Performances 8: Professional DVD: Please note that no personal videotaping is allowed during the performances. Phoenixville Phantom TV will be professionally videotaping the performances and you can purchase a DVD. KDA acts as the middle man please see page 7 for the order form. We will drop off and pick up the orders to them and s will be sent out once they are available for pick up at the studio. No DVDs will be mailed. 9: Patron Ad Order Form: If you know of a business that would be interested in advertising in our program, please provide them with this form. Patron Ads help tremendously with the cost of our programs as well as getting the word out about the business great for both us and them! Due May 12 th. 10: Shout Out/Larger Space for Dancer Well Wishes Form: We offer space for you to give your dancer well wishes either through a Shout Out or via a larger space in our program. Due May 12 th. 11: Photo Days Form for Recital Costumes: PHOTO DAYS ARE: Monday, June 4 th (5-9pm) and Tuesday, June 5 th (5-9pm). Each student will have the opportunity to have their picture taken in their recital costume(s). Photo Days will take place at the studio on the above dates. If you wish to sign your student up for photos, please do so via this google doc - =sharing (click on link and fill in info, it automatically saves!). The photographer will provide a disk or flash drive of all the photos taken for $45 per dancer per 10 min; therefore, you can make as many prints as you like! The cost includes the 10 minutes of as many poses as possible during the time as well as all retouching by the photographer. Photo disks are not mailed; they will be available at the KDA office for pickup during the summer ( will be sent when they are ready.) We are not doing class photos unless requested those who are interested in a class/group photo just need to coordinate and sign up for a 10 minute slot and split the cost of the time slot ($60 for group slot.) 1 P a g e

2 OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Costumes: We are finishing up classes trying on their costumes but we are still awaiting a few more classes. We will still be receiving them through April. We hope to get all alterations done quickly so that we can distribute them the beginning of May. Please note that no student who has an account balance will be allowed to take their costume(s) until the balance is paid. Please check in with the receptionist or log into your Student Portal to ensure that your dancer receives their costume(s) with their classmates. All dancers, especially those who had alterations done on their costume, please make sure to try it on again at home and please report back if there are any further issues. Please remember that NO student is to wear their costume to or from the theater. All dancers bring their costumes with them and put them on in the assigned dressing rooms. Tickets: We will be using Tututix.com this year for our ticket sales. You WILL be able to choose your seats when you order, therefore once tickets go on sale on April 25 10am, it is first come, first serve. All tickets need to be purchased through Tututix.com, we are no longer selling tickets at the office. Classroom Moms: Each class will need one Classroom Mom. This is an extremely important, voluntary position. The job of the Classroom Mom is a much needed and appreciated position to help our show run efficiently and productively! Only assigned volunteers will be allowed backstage before, during, and after the show. Classroom Mom volunteers will not need to purchase a ticket. They will be able to go into the theater to watch the students perform after handing them off to the backstage crew. The Classroom Mom s responsibilities include: (1) Maintaining order backstage with their assigned class/es (2) Assisting the students with their costumes & changes (3) Tidying up the students hair & make-up (4) Making sure all dancers look identical before stepping out onto the stage (5) Assist with occupying the children while waiting for their turn to perform (if applicable) (6)Assisting with bathroom breaks (7) Escorting the class to and from the stage door in the proper order (8) Help maintain the cleanliness of dressing rooms. If you are interested in volunteering to be a Classroom Mom, please write your name down next to the class you are volunteering for on this google doc: Please Note: We encourage signing up for more than one class since you will already be backstage and that alleviates more bodies backsage thank you in advance!! 3 KDA DRESS REHEARSAL 2018 INFORMATION Location: Phoenixville Area Middle School 1000 Purple Pride Parkway, Phoenixville, PA Dress Rehearsals this year will be on Thursday, May 31st, and Friday, June 1st Dress rehearsal is required for all dancers. If you do not attend dress rehearsal, you will not be allowed to perform in the show(s). NO EXCEPTIONS! ***All dancers are required to be in costume with hair and make-up done. Hair and makeup should be done at home but please bring your costume(s) with you and only put them on once you are in the dressing room. *Please check the Performance Hair & Make-up Document for details as well as Tights, Shoes, Hair Needs Document* Please be on time. We have a packed schedule and it is less than ideal to wait for students who are running late or stuck in traffic. When in doubt, leave early to make sure you arrive on time. Each class gets 15 minutes on stage to practice their piece. After you have performed and gather all belongings from the dressing room, you are free to leave, or you can sit in the auditorium and watch. Sometimes it is nice to do this since the dancers won t necessarily get to see the dances from other classes. You are welcome to take pictures at the dress rehearsal (but not during the performances). However, flash photography is prohibited at all times in the theater. Also, if you are taking pictures, please do not stage right in front of the stage. Please stay behind the first row of seats as a courtesy to both the dancers and the teachers. 5 KDA Performance Hair and Makeup GENERAL NOTES: *NO EATING OR DRINKING near your costume! We cannot replace costumes! If a dancer s costume is not in performance condition at the time they are going on stage, they will be removed from the piece. *All dancers should arrive to the theater with hair and makeup complete *Please DO NOT arrive with your costume already on please change at the theater in the dressing room provided *NO Underwear! Dancers do not wear underwear underneath their costumes. *Students may purchase a nude colored leotard (available at all dance stores) to wear underneath their costume but this is NOT required. (This is required for any dancer that has a quick change however!) *No necklaces, bracelets, earrings, temporary tattoos, or nail polish is allowed for dress rehearsal/show *Please ensure that your dancer is wearing the correct brand and color and shoes this information is provided on Costume Requirements page. The brand we require is BLOCH, and depending on your class the color and type differs. HAIR All female students must wear their hair in a bun or ponytail (see Costume Requirements document). Please use enough hair gel and hairspray that the dancer does not have any flyaways. Hair should be completely slicked back into the bun or ponytail. Dancers with very short hair must pull their hair away from their face and into either a small ponytail or bun (whatever is required please do your best). NO bangs! All bangs must be slicked back off of the forehead pinned down and sprayed well with hairspray to keep them back. BUNS -- Hair in a high bun WITH A HAIRNET (purchase at Rite Aid, CVS, dance stores), high enough that we see the top of the bun. All headpieces should either be worn around the bun (if possible) or to the left side of the bun (when looking from behind). PONYTAILS Hair in a high ponytail (high enough that the elastic can just be seen over the top of the head). Elastic must be the same color as the hair color or clear. MAKE-UP All female students are required to wear make-up for the dress rehearsal and dance recital. This is to prevent the dancers from looking washed out under stage lighting. We understand that many parents are not comfortable with the idea of children wearing makeup however please be assured that it is part of their costume (kind of like Halloween). Be assured that the makeup is for stage effects only. Eyes: Brown eye shadow only on eye lid and crease blended upwards will help frame the eye and will make their lash line look fuller. White eye shadow can be used to highlight the brow bone under the eye brow. Add mascara to the lashes to finish and make the eyes look larger. Cheeks: You want to choose medium rose tones for cheeks-nothing too bright and nothing too dark. Take your brush and start at the hair line and sweep forward under cheek bone and swirl upward over apples. Blend upwards to make sure blush color does not go lower than lip line on the cheek. Blend well to avoid any harsh lines. Lips: Use a red lip liner to outline lips then fill in entire lip to keep the lipstick on longer, then apply a red lipstick on top of that. Please no pink lipstick, it will never be seen from stage and the whole point of lipstick is so that we see that they have lips from stage. 5 P a g e
