Scott became the first woman to make a solo airplane flight in the United States Approximately 25,000 women demanded the right to vote during a march in New York City The United Nations General Assembly met in New York for the first time Hungary became an independent republic, after 33 years of Soviet rule Joe Carter of the Toronto Blue Jays became the second person to end the World Series with a home run.

3 Crayola ColorCycle Grissom Patriots are collecting used markers and highlighters (any brand) to be converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook meals and more! Green collection boxes will be in each classroom and on the bench outside the Commons. The program can keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year. Remember, don t throw out that used marker ColorCycle it!

4 Jazz Band Jazz Band rehearses at Prairie View each Wednesday from 4:00 to 5:15 pm.

5 Box Tops for Education The PE department is collecting Box Tops for Education. Please turn them in to your PE/Health teacher.

6 Student Council There will be a Student Council Exec Board meeting today after school in Room 111.

7 Red Ribbon Week Monday: Be Responsible and Sock it to Drugs *Wear crazy socks or the color Green. Tuesday: Have Self-Respect and be Too Cool to do Drugs *Wear sunglasses or the color Red. Wednesday: Unity Day - Be Caring and Fair, Take Our Hats Off to Drug Free Kids *Wear your favorite hat or the color Orange. Thursday: Be Active and Workout Against Drugs, Team Up Against Drugs *Wear sweats/active clothes or the color Blue. Friday: Be a Good Citizen and Team Up Against Drugs *Wear your favorite sports team apparel or Red, White and Blue.

9 Newspaper Club The next meeting for Newspaper Club reporters is Wednesday, Oct. 24th. Please meet in Room 222.

10 Boys Volleyball Come out and cheer our Patriots on to victory as they host Tinley Central today at 4:00. Remember to bring your Grissom ID to the game!

11 Unity Day Tomorrow is Unity Day! Please wear orange to honor Grissom s fight against bullying! If you wear orange, you will be given an orange slip during TIP to write your name on. NJHS members will hang the slips in the Commons!

12 Chorus Chorus rehearses after school every Monday and Thursday.

13 Girls Basketball Tinley Central plays host to our Lady Patriots today at 4:00. Good luck ladies!

14 Football Assessment All PE classes will have a football assessment on Wednesday during class. Please remember to bring your charged ipad to class!

16 6/7 Girls Basketball Congratulations to the Lady Patriots on their 42-5 victory over Conrady yesterday! Top scorers were Makayla Adams, Amanda Gaskin, Riley Erickson, Mikayla Summey, Diamonique Gore and Grace Wood!

17 Taffy Apple Pickup Taffy Apples will be available in the Commons for pickup today from 4-6 pm for those who placed orders in September. Due to allergy concerns, the PTO is not allowed to send apples home with students.

18 Intramurals Intramural sports are held Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:45-8:30. Volleyball intramurals are held on Tuesday, and Basketball intramurals are held on Thursday.

19 Ronald McDonald House Charities Grissom is once again collecting pop tabs to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities! The pop tabs are recycled and sold for scrap metal. Last year, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana raised more than $40,000 from this program. There is a collection box on the bench outside the Commons for your donations.

20 Hot Lunch Tomorrow is Hot Lunch. Please remember to thank the parents serving you. Without them, there would be no Hot Lunch program.

21 Student Support Student Support is held in the Media Center before school every day from 8:00 8:35 and after school Monday through Thursday from 3:10-4:05. Please be sure to bring your work with you! You will need to sign in and stay the entire time. If you are a bus rider, please remember to sign up for the activity bus that day!

22 Water Bottle Filling Station Challenge Last year Grissom Patriots saved 10,263 plastic water bottles from ending up in landfills by using the water bottle filling stations throughout the building. So far this year, we have saved 2,953 bottles! Please remember to use these instead of plastic bottles!
