1 2019 HOLIDAY SHOW NEWSLETTER PLEASE READ!!! VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION!!! If you lose this packet you may view these documents on our website: A copy has also been ed to you. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 14 AT 7:00 PM AT BELHAVEN CENTER FOR THE ARTS 835 Riverside Dr, Jackson, MS ALL performers must be lined up & dressed backstage - 6:15 pm Doors open for audience seating - 6:30 pm Curtain opens/doors close for entry - 7:00 pm Tickets Tickets are on a First come - First serve basis. Tickets go on sale - SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 2018 AT 8:00 PM Tickets are $10 a person. Anyone sitting in a chair (children included) needs a $10 ticket. Ticket proceeds go to Mississippi s Methodist Children s Home. Go to our website: to purchase tickets! Last year we sold out so do not delay in purchasing tickets!! ***ATTENTION! There is limited seating at this venue. We encourage you not to delay in purchasing your tickets. When the venue is sold out there will be no seats left. Belhaven will not allow standing in their venue due to fire hazards and you will be asked to leave if you do not have a seat. With that said there is enough tickets for each child performing to have both parents attend. We strongly encourage you to purchase your two tickets the night that they go on sale. That way you can ensure that both parents can attend and watch the show. We know that family and friends prefer to sit together but delaying in purchasing your ticket so everyone can sit together does not ensure your seat. You actually run the risk of no one being able to attend the event. So please purchase your tickets first and allow family and friends to purchase at a later date at their leisure. Also - THERE IS NO ELEVATOR TO THE BALCONY. If you have trouble getting upstairs or your family/friends do then purchase those tickets downstairs ASAP! Wheelchair accessible seats are available downstairs and not in the balcony.
2 In Studio Dress Rehearsal December 10-13, 2018 Students will wear their holiday costumes, accessories, tights, and shoes. During class time the week of December (also Spirit Week) we will rehearse dances in their costumes. DAYCARE & SCHOOL CLASSES WILL NOT REHEARSE IN THEIR COSTUMES! All holiday costumes are being sent home after class the months of October & November. If you do not have your holiday show costume by Thanksgiving you should contact LCDC ASAP!!! IMPORTANT INFO FOR CLASSES ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 14TH: CLASSES RESCHEDULED! Beginner Tumble I Fridays will meet with Beginner Tumble I Mondays on December 10th at 4:00 pm Advance Mini Tumble Fridays will meet with Intermediate Tumble on Monday December 10th at 7:30 pm Competition Team classes will not meet at all THERE will be NO rehearsal on the stage for the holiday show!! What to wear to the auditorium: Students should arrive at the auditorium wearing their tights (if required for costume) with street clothes and shoes. DO NOT arrive in your costume or dance shoes. We recommend that they wear pants and a top that removes without their hair being affected. Pants will protect the tights from mishaps on the way from home to the dressing room. Tights are dancers underwear. Hair and make-up must be done BEFORE arriving at the auditorium. **You will need to send a pair of panties for the students to change into after the show.** **Absolutely, no panties of any type are to be worn with the dance costumes under tights.** THONGS are NOT allowed because, yes, you can see it...everytime!!! Check list of things to pack for the holiday show Please pack the night before the show. Basics to pack/have extra: costumes, tights, dance shoes, any costume accessories, safety pins, needle and thread, scissors, hair spray, bobby pins, hairbrush, make up, bottled water (NO SODA OR JUICE), coloring book or activity for younger children to occupy them between performances. Please note: NO FOOD will be allowed in dressing rooms or auditorium. If any food is seen you will be asked to throw it away immediately. Spills can ruin a costume! This is also the auditorium s policy. Please do not wear costumes to the venue, bring them on a hanger and change backstage. Costumes should be organized on hangers and all accessories and shoes in a bag. Since there will be over 100 students participating in the holiday show, it is imperative that your child s name be printed on all parts and accessories of every costume. Shoes and bags should be labeled with your child s name. Write your child s name on the inside of their shoe, not the bottom!! Videography John Bullard will be on hand to capture the holiday show. There is an order form in this packet. Please bring your order form and payment with you to the holiday show. All checks need to be made out to John Bullard and turned in to him directly. John Bullard is the videographer we have used at all past LCDC recitals/shows. Photography Shelita Ann with Picture Couture - Lifestyle Photography will be on hand to capture action photos of your child on stage performing! There is an order form in this packet. Please bring your order form and payment with you to the holiday show. All checks needs to be made out to Picture Couture. We ask that you do NOT use flash photography during performances because it can be momentarily blinding to the dancer and cause an accident. Flash photography is also distracting to everyone else sitting in the audience. See sample pics of our past holiday shows and recitals located on her website and our Facebook page.
3 Final thoughts Your children have all been working very hard!!! They will be wonderful on stage, but it is always helpful for their parents to not show any uncertainty in this. It will help them have confidence in themselves if they hear you say that you know they will feel confident, perform perfectly, and look absolutely beautiful in all of their costumes! Even if you didn t like the costume---telling them otherwise helps with their confidence on stage. Remember- this is a showcase, not a professional performance. The children can do no wrong, whatever they do on stage will be great! For some of them this might be the first time performing. Always congratulate all performers, and let them know they did a beautiful job! For the new performer...they may not have thought about being nervous or scared until the moment they have been asked if they were...and then they wonder what it is they should be scared or nervous about, creating an unnecessary negative feeling and situation for them. Don t create this uncertainty!! Please remove nail polish on fingers and toenails & any tattoos or stamps on their skin. Please take your costumes out of the bag and allow them to hang a couple of weeks before the show. Skirts and costumes should not have wrinkles in them! You will want to hang ballet skirts upside down so that they will fluff nice as well. ***** ACCESSORIES, HAIR, & MAKE-UP ***** Jewelry:NO JEWELRY ON STAGE! The only exception is rhinestone stud earrings. Jewelry such as necklaces, bracelets, large dangly/hoop earrings will be removed before the student enters the stage, and we will not be held responsible for any lost items. Also, NO beads, ribbons, bows, clips, etc in your child s hair. The only accessories allowed are the ones included with your costume. At the holiday show we will check and remove any hairpieces not allowed. We are not responsible if they are lost backstage. Shoes & Tights: Make sure you have the correct style and colored shoes. All elastic should be sewn in shoes by now. Please make sure that the child s first and last name is on ALL dance shoes. Please put the name on the inside of the shoe. If the name is written on the bottom, it can sometimes be seen from the stage. Make sure the strings on the top of the shoe are cut and tucked in nicely. Make sure that you bring the proper tights as well if required for your costume!! You are not allowed to wear tights with holes or stains on stage! DO NOT WEAR UNDERWEAR UNDER TIGHTS! This is embarrassing for the child if worn on stage. Tights are dancers underwear. If your child wears underwear with their tights and leotard to practice, we suggest you start prepping them now by not wearing underwear to practice. By show time they will be comfortable and used to it. Hair & Makeup: The hair and make-up must be done BEFORE arriving at the auditorium. If you want your child to have Glitter Spray on, please apply the glitter spray before you leave home. If you are wearing a hairpiece (fake hair), then the hair needs to be the color of your hair--- no unnatural hair colors. Pictures of costumes will be posted backstage. They are posted in the studio s lobby now. Please follow instructions on costume pictures. If a hairpiece is on the dancer s right side you will copy just as pictured or noted. Use hair colored bobby pins and pony tails to secure hair. Makeup IS NOT REQUIRED, but is recommended for stage lights. Hair is suggested to be in a ballet bun, but is not required to be. However, hair must be pulled up out of the face. Please visit the LCDC youtube channel for ballet bun tutorials. Putting On A Good Face Stage lighting can dramatically affect the look of makeup, which makes putting it on a more complicated process than street cosmetics. Makeup for stage is more about enhancing your natural features than matching the costume. Stage makeup mishaps to avoid: 1. Washed Out: The bright lights wash away color and features. Be sure to wear foundation just a bit darker than your natural face color and blend down onto throat. Color should match the neck and body. 2.Too Shiny: Keep makeup long lasting by applying powder after foundation and on eyelids before shadow. 3.Undefined Eyebrows: Do define the eyebrows. Remember that brows frame the eyes and provide balance to the face. Make sure they extend enough at the outer ends. 4.Screaming Eyeshadow: Bright purple or blue eye shadow is distracting and overpowers eyes. Stay with earth tones. DO NOT MATCH EYESHADOW TO THE COSTUME!!
4 5.Invisible Lashes: Fake eyelashes are optional, but they do make eyes come alive. If you decide to not do fake eyelashes at least put on mascara to the lashes. COMPETITION MUST WEAR FAKE LASHES! 6.Lips and Cheeks: Don t overwhelm the face with color. Lips and cheeks should stand out under stage lights but not be so bright they are overpowering. 7.Lack of Knowledge: Practice and experiment before the big show! The CHECK IN AND OUT System: When you arrive in the dressing room you will check in your child to the Backstage Coordinator and the class volunteer. Look for your class costume sheet in the dressing room to know where to gather. When checking them in you will give them your name and number. If you are not a backstage mom or volunteer approved by LC you are to exit the dressing room 15 minutes before showtime. We do not have backstage moms like our May recitals. Moms wanting to volunteer backstage should contact LC asap to be listed as a volunteer. After your child is performing on stage they will be dismissed to the dressing room. DO NOT COME TO GET YOUR CHILD DURING THE HOLIDAY SHOW. If your child is in multiple routines they will need to change themselves or the class volunteer with help them. Parents will not come and change costumes unless you are staying backstage the entire show and are approved by LC. Once the last performance is over we will dismiss parents and all audience members to the dressing rooms to get your child once the show is completely over. You will check out your child in the same spot where you checked them in. The holiday show is expected to run 1 full hour. Before the show: Before the show holiday characters will be joining us for pictures. We will also have an LCDC backdrop for photo ops. During the show: For the benefit of the baby/toddler and for the enjoyment of family, friends, and others around you, we ask that there be no babies or crying toddlers in the theatre. We highly recommend getting a babysitter so that Mom and Dad are able to enjoy the performances as well. There is absolutely NO FOOD, SNACKS, OR DRINKS allowed in the auditorium. This is Belhaven s rule that needs to be respected. Any gum left on seats, drinks spills, etc WILL BE FINED! We will have record of the assigned seats and you will be responsible for the fine. ABSOLUTELY NO ONE INCLUDING PARENTS WILL BE AL- LOWED TO ENTER AND EXIT THE AUDITORIUM DURING THE SHOW! PLEASE DO NOT YELL OUT TO YOUR DANCER OR YELL OUT THEIR NAME when they are performing on stage!!! To the dancer, this is a distraction, causing them to lose their concentration. It is appreciated by those around you to have your cell phones completely turned off and for there to be NO TEXTING!!! It is also appreciated by others for there to be no talking during a performance and getting up to leave during a performance. The person around you may be trying to watch their child on stage. The best time to leave, if needed, is between dances. Please request that family and friends be quiet during the show. People seem to lose this courtesy at a live performance, perhaps due to the number of small children attending. After the Show: Please make sure all areas backstage are cleaned before leaving. There should be no sign of food or drinks as they are not allowed backstage or in the audience. You MUST check out with the backstage volunteer & coordinator in the dressing room to get your child. DO NOT come to the stage at the end of the show. This is for your child s safety!!
