1 April 2013 President's Message President's Message Hello Members: Another meeting time will be here next Tuesday and there is a possibility I may miss it as I did the Tuesday morning breakfast at the Dairy Queen and the Poor Boy Tour. I have a Doctor's appointment late Tuesday afternoon so Ola may have to take over. Heard the Tuesday breakfast had a good turnout once again and the Poor Boy Tour went well. Hope everyone is thinking about a design for the 2013 International Model A Day patch. We need to get his going so we can get the final design submitted to the 'patch company'. Your ideas for games and other activities are also much needed There is a lot of coordination required from here until September. Also the tech session at the Mabank High School is coming up and we need to start planning for that. A busy schedule for the next few months, nice to be busy and have fun at the same time. Hope to see you Tuesday at 5:30 at the Dairy Queen... Gigi Henderson read the treasurer s report. SUNSHINE REPORT: Sue Capps related that Roberto Loar s Mother was back home and doing much better. We all need to remember Wanda Bell in our prayers. We acknowledged Shorty Johnson, our only member present, as having a Birthday this month by singing our grand rendition of Happy Birthday. Remember to let Sue know if you will be attending his party on the 23 rd. The monthly morning breakfast will be will be held on March19 th. Bill Lee is handling tour arrangements for the Battle Creek Tour to Chandler scheduled for April 30. Further information will be forthcoming. Lou and Billy Carpenter will be working on the Blue Bonnet tour in April, tentatively set for April 23, depending on the bluebonnets. Remember the Founder s Day Parade in Emory will be held on May 4. Ola Powell announced that the Texas Tour would be in Corsicana in June The Dallas chapter welcomes any suggestions for places of interest in that area. If you are aware of something, please notify Ola Powell. Chuck Sportsman and Wallace Kemp, with Brooks Gremmels are working on the International Model A Day. Requested input for some changes this year. Volunteers were selected to meet with all involved. They will be following closely to get all preparations planned and in place earlier. We will need patches for this event, so if you have any ideas for them, please contact Bob Beck in order for him to get them ordered expediently. (Continued on page 3) Page 2

3 (March Minutes continued) Danny Hampel announced that this year s 1 st cruise night would begin on the third Thursday this month. This is a fun event and great place to see some great cars. The winner of the raffle this month was won by Bill Lee, who donated it back and C.L. York was the new winner. With no other business Chuck Sportsman made the motion to adjourn the meeting with a second from O.V. Cliver. The March 2013 CCMAFC meeting was adjourned. Prepared by Secretary/Treasurer Gigi Henderson-Beck Birthdays in April Bob Harris 04/08 Walt Hellebrand 04/08 David Beck 04/15 Nancy Kemp 04/15 Happy Birthday! It's Membership Renewal Time! From the Editor: I have to apologize for the lateness of this issue of the CCMAFC newsletter. I just returned late this afternoon (Sunday) from a long RV trip to Arizona. Enjoyed the sun, some model airplane flying, and a week with my brother-in-law from Denver attending several spring training baseball games of the Colorado Rockies (his home team). Time was short. And also: there will not be snail-mailed copies since I did not have access to my printer while on the road. I ask that you contact those in the club who do not have Harris Lege, C.L. York, Paul Pirtle, Jim&Lois Estes, Yankee Smith, David Beck, Shorty, Jim Harris, O.V. Cliver Please let them know we will be having the club meeting on Tuesday and I will bring paper copies of the newsletter then. Regards, Bill Page 3

4 Poor Boy Tour Poor Boy Tour started fifty years ago when some Model A folks decided to get together and have some fun over the weekend. It is the most reasonable tour you will ever attend, hence its name because of the timing around April 15. Years ago, the first meal was soup or beans and cornbread. The cost per person was about $5 and included a Friday and Saturday evening meal. CCMAFC members who are also Houston Model A club members participate in Poor Boy Tour every year. The 2013 PBT was in Giddings. Walt, Virginia, Harris, Ola, Shorty, Bill and Sue attended this year. Bob Beck was having some medical issues and so he and GiGi had to sadly cancel their trip. We had a great time as always...seeing our old friends, meeting new ones and fun touring the countryside. This years tour took us to several small towns around Giddings. One pit stop was an old train depot station. The banquets are always a good time of visiting. The evening meals this year included roast beef with all the trimmings and barbeque, along with our traditional Saturday "sack" lunch. There were about 100 Model A's and more than 200 folks in attendance. At PBT you will see all the A's in a variety of colors...some perfect show cars others still under construction. Plan now to join us in 2014 for a fun weekend. Sue Capps Page 4

6 Sunshine Report Sue Capps The birthday party for Shorty Sat. March 23 went well...with over 60 guests attending. Thanks to you all for coming and making this day so special for him. Danny Hempel had eye treatments.. he seems to be doing well now and pray that the treatments take care of the problem. Bob Beck is doing much better. He was in the hospital for tests. Medication should fix his problem. Bill Capps test results were not real favorable from the cardiologist. Tests will be repeated in three months to see if some of his medications could be causing some problems Keep Wanda Bell in your prayers also. Patronize our Club Sponsors
