BLUESTONE COMPETITION SATURDAY, OCTOBER 10 This weekend s competition is at Bluestone High School. The itinerary for Saturday is included in this newsletter. Please read over the itinerary so you know what your child is responsible for and when to pick them up once we return to Godwin. We will be taking two charter buses to Bluestone and we have a two hour ride each way. Bluestone has a small bleacher area. We may be sitting on the ground, so please have your child bring a blanket to sit on. IMPORTANT: If your child gets motion sickness, please send a note along with them for Vicki Deland, so that she can administer Dramamine before we depart Godwin and again before we depart Bluestone. FIELD SHOW SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7 Thank you very much to our parents that have volunteered to be coordinators. Our Volunteer Coordinator will be contacting everyone very soon to find out where you would like to volunteer your time on the 7th. Please be as generous with your time as you can. 2 A PUBLICATION FOR MILLS E. GODWIN MARCHING EAGLES BAND BOOSTERS PAGE 2 is a success because of our parents! FOR ALL COORDINATORS: There will be a planning meeting on Tuesday, October 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the band room. All parents are encouraged to attend. You could sign up to help that night! Any questions or concerns please contact me at or president@godwinband.org. Let s impress those 8th graders this week! Good luck at Bluestone this weekend. GO MARCHING EAGLES!! Sincerely, Laura Hudson Band Booster President Thanks! A huge thank you to two of our Color Guard Dads!! Note to Parents Mr. Auman has informed the children again, but for those parents that do not know; the children are not to leave the school premises for any reason on Friday evenings prior to the end of the game without permission. If your child leaves school premises without permission it is the same offense as leaving during the school day without permission and the consequences would be the same. The pizza kit/flag fundraiser is now over and we are moving straight into the Citrus fruit sale (starting Oct. 1). The final sales will be announced at the Booster meeting on Monday night. Please mark your calendar for the delivery of the pizza and flags on Tuesday, October 20 at 4:30. The pizzas arrive frozen and need to be picked up and delivered quickly! If you cannot be there, please make arrangements for someone to pick up your order--we have no way to properly store them. We should have the orders in the commons area of the school. The Citrus fundraiser will run until November 4. We are trying a new fundraiser this year, Yankee Candle. The candle fundraiser will run from Oct. 13 to Oct. 27. Please note that this one occurs during the citrus sale. If you would like to order the adult polo shirt (order form is on the website), please let me know. We have enough verbal orders to place another order, if you get your forms and money into me this week, I can go ahead and place our order. You can leave the order form and money in the booster mail box located in the band room (just put my name and "shirt order" on the envelope). Thanks for participating in the Band Booster fundraising this year! Please contact me if you have any questions by or phone Senior Night Dinner November 6th by Corrine Cooper, Hospitality Coordinator The Godwin library has been reserved for Friday, November 6th s Senior Night Dinner. We need volunteers who can help with the following: lead the invocation, bake and decorate or purchase a cake for the event, decorate the library, purchase food, cook food, serve food, set up, clean up, make corsages, create invitations and a photographer for that evening. Contact Hospitality chairperson Corrine Cooper at or by at corrinecoop@comcast.net.

5 A PUBLICATION FOR MILLS E. GODWIN MARCHING EAGLES BAND BOOSTERS PAGE 4 12th Annual Godwin Invitational Field Show Saturday, November 7, 2009 Reminder: All parents and students are needed to work during all or part of the show. What is an Invitational? An invitational is a marching band field show in which high school marching bands are judged in a number of categories (such as music, marching & maneuvering, etc.) and then ranked with their class. Bands are grouped in classes (A,AA,AAA,AAAA) based on their size and/or ability. Godwin is a AAA band. The Godwin Band Boosters sponsor the Godwin Invitational as a major fundraiser. We earn money to buy instruments and equipment, subsidize the cost of parents chaperoning the Spring Trip, as well as other necessities required by the band. WE NEED YOU!!!!! Our major fundraiser is a little more than a month away and we need all parents on deck. This show requires MANY volunteers (adults and students) for both leadership and non-leadership positions to be a success! Regardless of which area you choose, working at the Field Show benefits our students directly and you ll have fun working with our great kids and parents in the process. Alumni members and parents are welcome to help. Most of these volunteer positions do not require any prior knowledge or specific skills; just a willingness to support this great event and our kids. If you have any questions or concerns, please don t hesitate to call or Laura Hudson at or president@godwinband.org for more information. We have many volunteer opportunities and shifts available in the following areas: Setup, Ticket Sales, Program Sales, Air Gram Sales, DVD Sales, First Aid, Gate Monitors, Stand Monitors, Parking, Registration, Guides, Building Monitors, Competition Staging Area Monitors, Concession Sales, Bake Sale Sales, Equipment Movement, Maintenance, Clean-up and Floaters. Our Volunteer Coordinator will be calling all of our parents beginning next week to find out where you would like to volunteer your time. Know that whatever amount of time you are able to give is much appreciated and truly helps our Godwin Marching Eagles family. Concession Needs - Drinks and Baked Goods Each student is asked to bring in a 12 pack of either Coke or Pepsi products, Gatorade (a hot seller) or bottled water. If you would like to donate more than a 12 pack it is much appreciated and benefits the band. These items will be sold at the Field Show, so please don t send in generic brands as they do not sell well. We also need baked goods from everyone. Best sellers from previous shows have been brownies (all kinds), bar cookies, Rice Krispy treats and of course cookies (especially chocolate chip). These treats need to be individually wrapped in plastic wrap or enclosed in plastic baggies. (Packaging tips: 2 to 3 cookies in a bag depending on size, 1 large or 2 smaller brownies in a bag, etc.) Use your best judgement. The drinks can be brought into the band room anytime prior to the show and we ask that you bring in the baked goods the morning of the show. There will be a planning meeting Tuesday, October 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the band room. All parents are encouraged to attend. The more parents we have, it s less work for all of us. Corrine Cooper, our Hospitality Chair, is looking for parents to donate food for our Director s Tent at the show. If you have a yummy recipe you love to prepare please contact Corrine at or hospitality@godwinband.org. TROPHY SPONSORSHIPS Trophy sponsorships will be available beginning next week. When you sponsor one of our trophies at the field show your child presents the trophy to the winning band. Feel free to sponsor a trophy in honor of your child, a section of the band, a parent, a grandparent or anyone else you wish to honor. These sponsorships will be announced as the trophies are presented. The sign-up sheets will be posted in the band room by the middle of next week. Keep checking the newsletter each week for any additional information!
