OHS Loyalty Cards We would like to thank everyone for their support of our first OHS Loyalty Card. Cards will be on sale until October 25 th. Cards and/or money can be returned to the school any time before October 25 th. No School for Students There will be no school for students on Friday, October 26 th as it is an in-school professional development day for teachers. OurSchool Survey OHS will be participating in an online school survey for students called the OurSCHOOL Student Survey. This survey will occur between November 1 and November 30 as part of the provincially mandated data collection process for the Education Sector Strategic Plan. All students in Saskatchewan from Grade 4 to Grade 12 will be completing the survey in the given time period. About the OurSCHOOL Student Survey: Allows students to share their feedback anonymously on their experiences at school, school environment and school improvement programs. Participation in the survey is voluntary, however all students are encouraged to participate. The time required to complete the survey may vary, but it is designed to be completed in approximately minutes.

Survey measures include such topics as behaviours and attitudes linked to student success, emotional and social well-being and physical health. For more information about the OurSCHOOL Student Survey, please visit The Learning Bar Inc. s website: Future Dates for your Calendar The first set of report cards will be distributed electronically on Monday, November 5 th. If you require a paper copy of the report card, please call Ashley or Sheila and we will print out the report card for you. Parent-teacher conferences will be held on Wednesday, November 7 th and Thursday, November 8 th from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. both nights. We will once again be using the website to schedule interviews. We will be ing the instructions and code to book your interviews during the last week of October. -Mr. Walter Wood and Mr. Kim Sobkowicz SCC Message We are having a great start to the year. I hope everyone has purchased their Loyalty Card for the OHS fundraiser, and are enjoying all of the savings the community businesses are offering. Our next SCC meeting will be held October 16 th, at 5:15p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room at OHS. Everyone is welcome! -Your OHS SCC Wrestling Meeting There will be a meeting for anyone interested in knowing more about the sport of amateur wrestling, on October 11 th at 5:30 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room at OHS. This is open to all parents, and students from grades During this meeting, a practice schedule will be set, and the basic rules of amateur wrestling will be explained. Also a demonstration of the sport will be displayed. Any questions will be answered at that time. You can contact Mr. Tulp at the school if you have any pressing questions, or if you want to preregister as a club wrestler. Thank you, and we hope to see you on October 11 th! Outdoor Ed The Outdoor Ed Club completed another adventure down the South Saskatchewan River at the end of September. We got to enjoy the beautiful fall colors and also the brisk September weather. A group from Westcliffe Composite School in Marengo was also able to join us which made for quite a sight to see 13 canoes rolling down the river. We didn't make it very far on the first night and ended up camping on the shore just outside of Coldwell Park. A merry time was had by all around the fire which was crucial as the temperature hovered around zero! The next day was a long and arduous battle because, although the weather started out very nice, it ended with some wind and ever so light snow. It also made things interesting when a couple of our students had an accidental spill. We were able to get them warmed up and safely back home. We are very thankful for all the helping hands we had on this trip, and especially for Mr. Glen Trites omelet in a bag. We're looking forward to more outdoor adventures in the future. See you there!

Cross Country OHS hosted our District cross country event October 3 down at the Outlook and District Regional Park. One hundred and forty runners blazed through the course with some outstanding showings by the OHS Blues. Larkyn Lee placed 9 th in her age category of Pee Wee girls, Bryden Sparks, Brody Harris, and Aidan Haugen all posted great times in the Bantam Boys category with Bryden raking in a third place finish. Olivia Hefner beat her previous best time by almost two minutes to gain a second place finish and Alyssa Follick was right behind her as a Bantam Girl. Our Midget Boys, A.J. Hettrick and Kalen Follick cruised through the finish with a 3 rd and 8 th place respectively. Sheridan Hefner improved her time, also earning her a third place finish in the Midget Girls category. OHS has two provincial contenders in Chase Bruynooghe and Myles Natomagan. Chase ran with the Junior Boys and posted a personal best on our OHS course with a time of minutes(running 4 km), and a second place finish. Myles Natomagan, our lone senior boy, battled hard to earn a second place finish, also posting a personal best time of running 5 km in 24 min 36 seconds. Congratulations to all our Blues Runners and good luck to Myles and Chase who will head to provincial cross country in Delisle on October 13 th. The OHS Cross Country team would like to extend a huge thank you to all the staff, parents, and students who volunteered at our meet. It was a success in no small part, to the efforts of a fabulous group of people. We would also like to thank the OHS SCC for volunteering, Riverbend Co-op for donating our water at this meet and our home meet, the Outlook and District Regional Park for the use of the beautiful park and facilities, and Western Sales for donating the use of a gator (side-by-side) in case of an injured runner! We appreciate the support! Junior Football On October 3 rd the OHS Blues junior football team traveled to Watrous for a double header under the lights against Watrous and Davidson. Their first game was against Davidson and as both teams were young it was going to be a good tilt. With stellar play by the defense the OHS Blues shut down Davidson s offensive drives for most of the game. The Blues offence got rolling and racked up yards through the air as well as using the ground attack. The teams ended up tied at the end of the hour of play. Up next was a larger more experienced team from Watrous. Watrous came out hard on their first drive and ended up scoring on the ground. The defense on both side stiffened up and halted the next couple of offensive drives. Using a variety of plays and players the Blues finally got on the board using a potent ground game. Unfortunately the Watrous Wildcats ended up on top at the end of the hour of play. The Blues junior football team played hard all night and had a great experience playing under the lights. Thank you to the

coaches from Watrous and Davidson for coming together to provide a night of fun and excitement. And a big thank you to the OHS blues fans and parents for coming out and supporting the team on a chilly night of football. L-R OHS Blues, Davidson, and Watrous under the lights Senior Girls Volleyball The Senior A Girls took on LCBI on Wednesday in a battle of the Outlook high schools. Despite sickness, the girls played well and took 2 sets. The team will be hosting their home tournament on October 12 th and 13 th. Come to the gyms at OHS and OES to see some great volleyball. Finals are scheduled for 5:00p.m. on Saturday. Go Blues! The Senior Girls B team travelled to Biggar on Wednesday and started off with a bang, taking the first set, but ran into some trouble keeping the momentum going. They will travel to Hanley for league play Wednesday, October 10 th. Battling Hunger The Riverbend Co-op challenged the three schools in Outlook to collect food for our local food bank, making it a competition between the schools with prizes for the classroom that collected the most. The OHS Blues supported the cause raising pounds of food. While it wasn t enough to win the school challenge, the 802s at OHS impressed the entire school with a collection of 205 lbs, earning a pizza lunch and bragging rights. Thanks to everyone that supported a great cause in our community.

OHS School Clothing and Merchandise Once again, OHS is offering ordering for OHS clothing and merchandise. We have a host of options available for purchase this year with bunny hugs, sweatshirts, sweat pants, shorts, t-shirts, long sleeve t- shirts, socks, blankets, and sports bags all carrying the Blues logo! Sizing is available for most of this week and order forms have been ed to all the parents and are available in the SLC room at noon and at the office! Christmas is coming and what better way to show your spirit than by gifting some Blues gear! Loyalty Cards OHS would like to thank the community for your support of our Loyalty Card fundraiser. Cards will remain on sale until October 25 th and are available for purchase from any OHS student, the OHS office, AG Foods, Outlook Bakery, Richards Home Hardware, Riverbend Co-op Food Store, Jacq'y Jaye's, and the Outlook Medical Pharmacy. For $25 you will receive exclusive discounts at each of our business partners until June 30 th, Thanks for supporting OHS activities and for shopping local! OHS s Best Driver We are running a new event at the school that we have never had before. On Friday October 12 th students with a valid drivers license will be given an opportunity to show off their ability to control a motorized vehicle with precision. We are calling the event OHS s Best Driver Challenge and the intention of this event is to promote safe and accurate operation of a motorized vehicle. The challenge will require students to drive a car (provided by Regal Ford) through an obstacle course with various challenges including turning around in small spaces, slalom through pylons, driving through narrow spaces, etc. The driver will complete the track going forward then repeat the entire track again in reverse! Scores will be calculated on how few pylons are contacted as well as how quickly the course is completed. The student and team who scores the highest will earn the title of OHS s Best Driver!
