From the President To say that this month s activities have been successful is an understatement. The Rallye school was well attended and we had 12 novice cars participate in the graduation Rallye. Our first points Rallye of the year saw the biggest turnout in a long time. We had 29 cars and there were so many novices I lost count. The scores were amazing with novices giving the veterans a run for their money.

2 2 This is looking to be a great year with lots of new faces. Please take the time to introduce yourself. We almost need to wear our name badges to every event and have stick on ones to use so that we can get to know each other! Please continue to tell others about the club and bring a friend with you to the events as we have several people who are very interested but do not have a partner to either drive or navigate. April is shaping up to be a busy month, the April 1 st the Car Show at Restoration Rods to support Ronald McDonald House was an amazing success with well over 70 cars. Then on the 22 nd we have the CWI Skills Car Show, followed by the April Showers Rallye on the 23 rd. Come out and have a great time! Ross A Full House! Randy and J.T. Toad teaching. From the 2017 Rallye School By Randy Smith Based on 17 new rallyists for the March Rallye it seems the rallye school was a success. Joe Fascilla and I spent quite a bit of time building the PowerPoint presentation and getting ourselves ready for the school after a more than decade break from honing our rallye skills. We tried to stay true to J.T. Toad's school and were so honored to have the Toad present for the school. Thank you so much, Jim, for the slides and your contributions. I believe everyone in the club would agree they have learned something from Jim VanDam, or at least had their rallye knowledge challenged.

3 3 We wanted to make the learning environment intimate and be close to the students. Obviously, being in the dark and and struggling to see the screen was not planned. Brent was right about too much light from the windows. So, next year Brent has graciously agreed to allow us to paint the front windows black! We will have a 60 inch or bigger monitor on a stand so we can have a classroom feel. As far as next year goes, assuming we are invited back, there will be some changes based on what we learned. The TV monitor, more actual pictures of rallye objects and signs in the presentation, and an effort to follow the helpful hints as a course agenda. We will also work harder to incorporate the Rallye School Rallye into the presentation. A special thank you to those club members who came out and helped the new students. The ratio of members to students was excellent and I am sure the new rallyists appreciated the help. Dave Erickson having a teaching moment.

4 4 ON THE ROAD TO THE HALL OF FAME It was a dark and stormy night. Oh, wait, it is a dark and stormy March 30 as I sit here admiring our many DEAD LAST BUT DID FINISH awards laughing at me on the shelf above. Huddled in the corner are the very few good awards that are overwhelmed by the other multi losers, much to our dismay. Now, just maybe, we have broken into the big time and can run rampant the rest of the year and collect a shelf full of amazing goblets and other goodies. Yes, my good ralleyists, this is why we keep doing this fun activity. See, NEVER GIVE UP. We dredged ourselves up the ladder one more time, much to our surprise. I drive for the fun of it and Christine is the competitor which has led to many loud words between us, some of which was not respectful, such as, I hate it when she says Be quiet, I will do the yelling here! So, we were both amazed at the end of the rallye that we had finished without even raising our voices. The points stayed low as we went thru leg after leg, but it also really helps when you run a car that the navigator cannot see the speedometer. That did not totally end the You are going too fast comments which, we were running just a little bit fast but not off that far off. It was not surprising that she, a lifelong educator and control freak took the novices in front and behind us under her wing and almost made us late leaving checkpoints. It did annoy me that I had to spend so much time looking backward to make sure they were behind us and, in fact, expected her to want me to slow down until the car was there. As usual small things did happen but doing a fast tire change, tape up a broken windshield, and do a valve job on the engine did not hamper us. All in all, a very nice drive with a beautiful lady made for a great day.

Then we had 21 cars do the practice rally. Best turnout we have had in the last few years. Thanks to all the current members who helped make it a success and especially the presenters, Jim Van Dam, Randy Smith, and Joe Fascilla, and Brent and Rose Rule for hosting the event. Our next Rallye will be April 23rd with Bruce and Stacy Altig as the Rallymasters, and the Lemnas helping. On May 21 st Rallymasters are the Howards. Then in June the SWISCC members will help with the running of the Idaho Rally. An event run on Forest Service Roads, with staging in Boise and then up toward Idaho City and Placerville. Dave Erickson at and Dick Rockrohr at , are soliciting helpers and have details about the event so give them a call for more information and if you would like to sign up to help.
