The SEVIS system will be out of service on June 26, 27, and 28. It is not recommended that you travel during this time, because the immigration officers will not be able to see your information in the SEVIS system. If you will travel on these days, you must have plenty of documentation to verify your status! Take as much documentation with you as you can (enrollment letter, transcripts, assistantship offer letter, invitation letter from supervisor [for scholars], etc.), so you can prove your status to the immigration officer when you re-enter the U.S. Contact the ISS Office with questions or concerns: or iss-su@okstate.edu. 1
2 RED EARTH FESTIVAL When: Friday, June 5 - Sunday, June 7 Where: Cox Convention Center Address: One Myriad Gardens, Oklahoma City, OK The 29th Annual Red Earth Native American Cultural Festival is scheduled June 5-7, 2015 at the Cox Convention Center in downtown Oklahoma City. The award winning festival features American Indian artists and dancers from through North America who celebrate the richness and diversity of their heritage with the world. This June Oklahoma City will be the center of Native American art and culture in America. Through the years, Red Earth has matured into one of the most respected visual and performing arts event of its type setting the standard for many of today s Indian art shows held throughout the nation. At Red Earth, guests can sample the work of some of the nation s most celebrated artists, with opportunities to purchase contemporary and traditional examples of beadwork, basketry, jewelry, pottery, sculpture, paintings, graphics and cultural attire during the juried art show and market. The Red Earth Fancy Dance Competition will feature the elite of Native American dance in Men's Fancy War Dance and Ladies Fancy Shawl. The masters, each exhibit their originality and skills in one of the most prestigious of all native dance competitions. A grand parade, unlike any other parade in the world, opens the Red Earth Festival in downtown Oklahoma City. The streets of downtown Oklahoma City will vibrate in Native American tribal spirit as tribal representatives, in full regalia, make the Red Earth Parade one of America s most unique. 4 PINTO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP HORSE SHOW When: Monday, June 8 - Saturday, June 20 Where: Expo Square Address: 4145 East 21st Street, Tulsa, OK Join the Pinto Horse Association for the 50th anniversary of the Pinto World Championships in Tulsa, OK! The special events taking place during the show include: Welcome Party, Costume Class, Dog Show, Challenged Riders's Leadline, Versatility showcases, Horses4Heroes Free Ride, Charity Walk Trot and an Ice Cream Social. While attending the show, bring your friends and family members to check out not only the classes and special events but also the vendors who come from all over the country to showcase their merchandise. 5 TUESDAY EVENING GARDEN SERIES When: Tuesday, June 9 from 6:00pm 7:30pm Where: OSU Botanic Garden Address: 3300 W. 6th St. Join us at the garden the second Tuesday of each month for a variety of gardening programs from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at The Botanic Garden. Herbs and Supporting Pollinators are the topic for the evening with a hands-on activity of Mason Bee houses and trellises/plant supports. The program is free and open to all. Please call or the Payne County Extension Office (keith.reed@okstate.edu or call ) in advance if you plan to attend, so they can be adequately prepared. 5
6 DEADCENTER FILM FESTIVAL When: Wednesday, June 10 - Sunday, June 14 Where: Downtown Oklahoma City Address: 415 Couch Dr., Oklahoma City, OK Admission: $10 - $15 deadcenter Film Festival is back! It is Oklahoma's largest film festival and one of the "Top 20 Coolest Film Festivals in the World" and "Top 50 Festivals Worth the Entry Fee" according to MovieMaker Magazine. And what's up with the name you ask? "deadcenter" refers to the geographic location of the festival - in OKC - the "dead center" of the United States. Why should you attend? 7 SUMMER ON THE PLAZA When: Thursday nights, from May 21 June 25 Where: Student Union Plaza, between Student Union and Classroom Building Every Thursday night from May 21 through June 25, the Student Union will host its annual Summer on the Plaza series and open its doors to the Stillwater community as well as to OSU students, faculty and staff. There will be everything from prizes from local businesses such as Academy Sports and Stillwater YMCA, live music, water activities and free movies to extended shopping and dining hours with lots of family-friendly fun for everyone to enjoy. Check out the OSU Allied Arts website for more information and movie schedule. SUMMER CONCERT SERIES When: Thursday, June 11 at 6:00pm Where: Student Union Plaza Come hear Cheyenne Roberts, a pop musician from Tulsa, OK, in the next concert of the Summer on the Plaza Concert Series! 8 SUMMER MOVIE SERIES When: Thursday, June 11 at 8:15pm Where: Student Union Theater Admission: FREE!! Catch the next movie in the Summer Movie Series, part of the Summer on the Plaza! This week s movie is Insurgent, based on the young-adult novel by Veronica Roth. Rated PG-13. NEW STUDENT REGISTRATION FOR FALL 2015 SEMESTER Fall semester is the time when most international students arrive to campus. The ISS Office becomes very busy as we meet the new students, as well as welcome back the students returning from summer break. Fall 2015 New Student Registration will take place during the first week of August and the ISS Office and counselors will be very, very busy! If you want to apply for OPT, talk about your final semester, or need to meet with a counselor for any reason, we strongly recommend that you either 1) make an appointment several days in advance or 2) come to the ISS Office after new student registration is over. Otherwise, you could wait for a long time before we are able to help you. We don t want you to wait any longer than you have to! 8
9 OSU WELLNESS PROGRAMS The OSU Wellness Department is offering a variety of programs to help you stay fit and active over the summer! Programs include: Summer Splash-In - June 16 Qigong - Wednesdays, beginning June 24 Intramural Sports Leagues - Register by June 12!
