We will be having workdays on the 4th Saturday of the month (Sunday if necessary). Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. ****EVENTS**** HUNTER SAFETY COURSE On September 16th the NYS Hunter Safety course will be held at Sprout Brook On September 17th the NYS Hunter Bow course will be held at Sprout Brook. Refer to the NYS DEC website for details and registration. PIG ROAST The Pig roast is scheduled for Saturday October 1:00pm. This is a family event. Adult tickets are $25, under 21 are $15 and children under 12 are free. The Can-Am quad is also being raffled off at the event. Contact Jim Teeling to get your tickets. Please help out in any way you can to make the event a success. BIG BUCK DINNER The next Big Buck Dinner is scheduled for January Joe Tatoni has asked anyone who can butcher, buy goods and help prep for the dinner to please let him know. We are still looking for someone to chair the event. Joe will still be the Chef but we need someone to run the event and organize the help that Joe will need, including butchering the meat. Contact Bill Hunt if interested RAFFLES Quad ATV Raffle: Tickets are available. See/contact Jerry Fosatti ( ). Tickets are $20 each and the drawing will be at the Pig roast. Winner will pay taxes. 31 Day Gun Raffle: Raffle will be held in October. 4 GREENHAVEN FISH AND GAME ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER page 4 of 7 ARCHERY COMMITTEE REPORTS We are looking for a new Archery Chairperson. Dan has resigned due to a change in his work schedule. Dan will help out as much as his schedule allows. Joe Marrow is interested in Chairing. FEDERATION No new report. Thanked the Club for allowing the Boy Scouts use the club. MERCHANDISE Shirts and Jackets are well stocked. Check them out at the next meeting. PROPERTY POSTING Ms. Secor has given the club permission to hunt on her property. Be advised that her Realtor and a couple of friends also have permission to hunt on her land and are planting a feeding plot. RANGE The Range targets are in good shape. Also, the range has been kept clean. Don t forget to sign in and out on the range book and put up and take down the flag. SPROUT BROOK GROUNDS Bill Hunt needs help on Sunday September 10th doing tile work in the club house bathroom. Sign up on the DEC website. Just a reminder to check the DEC website prior to hunting. Changes are made to hunting regulations after the books are printed up. NEWSLETTER COMMITTEE REPORTS Please contact the Newsletter for any information you would like to see in the newsletter. it to GHFandGnewsletter@yahoo.com PUBLIC RELATIONS Members are reminded to notify a board member as soon as possible when aware of a death of a member so that the club can organize a service at the wake. SPROUT BROOK KITCHEN No new update. SPROUT BROOK HOUSE Renovation work has started on the bathroom (main floor). Reminder there is no smoking on the second floor of the house. Smoking is limited to downstairs in the wood burning furnace area only. STONY CREEK Work day scheduled 9/23. Please sign up on the bulletin board. Work Day was held on August 26th. The main bathroom floor was repaired, a new refrigerator was cleaned and installed. The old refrigerator was removed. Worked on all the power equipment and restored to operating status: generator, lawn mowers and log splitter. Ran all of the equipment to run out the old gas. A new lawnmower is in the shed, please do not use it. We will keep it as a new spare when the other lawnmowers no longer work. All of the old lawn mowers now work. Logging is scheduled to start on 9/1/17. Once more information is available on progress we ll share it with the membership. WAYS & MEANS No new update. WORK HOURS Work hours are posted. MEMBERSHIP/DUES Current membership: 127 Active, 50 Life Members and 3 pending members.

5 GREENHAVEN FISH AND GAME ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER page 5 of 7 OTHER ITEMS OTHER ITEMS NO SMOKING POLICY Remember, there is no smoking on the second floor of the Sprout Brook club house. Smoking is limited to the downstairs area by the woodstove. NY SAFE ACT AND CCW PERMIT RE- CERTIFICATION Another rule of the NY SAFE Act is becoming active. The requirement to re-certify your CCW permit every 5 years is now taking effect. If you have a pistol permit you have probably received a letter from the NY State Police informing you of the need to re-certify. If you have not received it, a copy of the letter is enclosed on the next page of the newsletter for your information. Don t forget that if your NYS Pistol License was issued before January 15, 2013 you must recertify your license by January 31, If your Pistol License was issued after January 15, 2013 the deadline to recertify is five years after the date is was issued. Refer to the NYS Police letter printed on the next page of the newsletter. The club is not endorsing any insurance or suggesting you get insurance. Realizing the anti-gun state we live in, everyone should evaluate their individual liability and whether or not this insurance is right for them. Information on the insurance is located in the July Newsletter, or you can contact Charles Harris. GREENHAVEN FACEBOOK Curt Bailey has started a Facebook page for current active and life members. To join the group, go to Facebook and under groups search for the group Greenhaven Fish & Game Association, Inc. Make your request to join and once accepted you will be allowed to view and post within the group. Only members will be able to see posts made within the group. NRA NEWS NRA Grant Proposal will be submitted later this week. More details on the project to be discussed at the next meeting. Two deer hunters decided to separate to increase their chances. What if we get lost, says one of them? Fire three shots up in the air every hour on the hour says the other. I saw it on TV. Sure enough, one of the hunters gets lost, so he fires three shots up into the air every hour on the hour. The next day, the other hunter finds his friend with the help of the Forest Ranger. Did you do what I said? asked the Hunter. Yes, I fired three shots up into the air every hour on the hour, until I ran out of arrows.

7 GREENHAVEN FISH AND GAME ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER page 7 of 7 INFORMATION ON PCFOA PUBLIC FORUM AND THE PALADIN CENTER Putnam County Firearms Owners Association (PCFOA) is holding a public forum about Section 35 of the NYS Penal Code, the Lethal Force Portion. It will be held at the Paladin Center in Carmel, NY on October 18th at 7:00pm. Admission is free, but it will be very well attended. The Paladin Center is a training facility for the police, fire and other law enforcement and safety organizations. (Seal Team Six trains there). There is a Soft BB Range open, they offer multi-gun courses and introduction to shooting for the general public (especially kids). They also have high-level training for those who carry a gun (very high level). They have a complete gun store open on their premises with on-line prices for ammo and firearms. They offer gun transfer services for only $25, as well as gunsmith services, concealed carry clothing, holsters, etc. It s a fun place to visit.
