2017 Fall Product Program Rally Guide
2017 Fall Product Program Rally Overview QSP and Ashdon Farms are excited to offer Councils, service units and troops the opportunity to host Fall Product Program (FPP) Rallies. As with other rallies, a FPP Rally at the Council, service unit, or troop level will not only be a fun learning experience for the girls, but it will also motivate them to take action toward a successful FPP. Those who offered FPP Rallies last year considered them a success with solid attendance and great feedback. You and your leaders are the best ones to determine what is most effective for motivating the girls, so there s plenty of room for creativity and flexibility. Whatever type of rally you decide to host, whether grand or simple, it s sure to inspire your Girl Scouts to engage in the FPP even more than they did last year! The theme for this year s FPP is Unleash the HERO Inside...Be FEARLESS!. At the FPP Rally, girls will participate in fun hands-on activities to learn about the nut and chocolate offerings, goal setting, leadership and other theme-related activities. Rally Planning The purpose of this guide is to help you plan for a successful FPP Rally. It includes preparation considerations, suggested rally procedures, and even Success Station ideas. Feel free to use the Success Station ideas exactly as they are, modify them for your rally, or create new station ideas of your own!
Preparation: Preparing for Success Select a location, date, and time for the Fall Product Program (FPP) Rally. Get the word out! Communicate the FPP Rally details to the troop leaders and volunteers. Invite the girls and their parents/guardians. Optional: As a fun activity, ask the girls to help make invitations. Advertise the FPP Rally (e.g., Service Unit newsletter, troop newsletter, website etc.). Success Station Planning Determine how many stations you will have, and the activity for each Success Station. Recruit and prepare adults and older Girl Scouts to manage each Success Station. (Make sure an adult is present at each station during the rally.) Reserve tables according to station requirements as well as other table requirements (e.g., refreshments). Gather supplies needed for each Success Station. Secure method for signaling the girls to move on to the next station (e.g., horn, whistle, bell).
Preparation: Preparing for Success (Cont.) Set-up Considerations Decoration ideas: Use images of girls working as a team to decorate. Music: Music is a powerful tool for setting a positive tone at any event. We encourage you to have upbeat music playing throughout the duration of the rally. (Note: If you have any Success Stations that require music, be sure to have the rally music at a volume that won t interfere with other stations.) Refreshments (optional): If you choose to provide refreshments, be sure to ask the parents/guardians about any food allergies before the rally.
Suggested Rally Order and Procedures Welcome Start the event with the rally leader thanking the girls and their parents/guardians for joining this exciting Fall Product Program (FPP) Rally, sharing why the FPP is important, and providing examples of some of the skills and values that they ll learn here at the rally. Procedure Overview Explain that the girls will be divided into manageable groups. Each group will rotate from station to station with approximately 10 minutes at each station (or whatever time is designated). When time is up, you will signal that it s time to change stations. (To divide the girls into groups, they can number off or draw numbers from a hat, etc.) Closing Comments Let girls and their parents/guardians know whom to contact if they have any questions. Wish everyone a fun time as they discover how they can Unleash the HERO Inside Be FEARLESS!
Success Station #1 Cat Ears Supplies Needed Cat Ear template (provided in appendix) Black headbands Black construction paper or cardboard Glue Scissors Felt, faux fur fabric, mini pom pom balls (optional) Simple Preparation Print the cat ear template. Instructions Have the girls cut out the cat ears. Place the ears onto the headband, with the headband sitting where the fold line is at the center of each mirror image ear. Glue along the bottom of the headband. Attach the ears opened out to the underside of the headband. When it sets, fold the two ears together and glue them. Once the glue sets, decorate your cat ears to express your style!
Success Station #2 Tic Tac Toe Relay This station encourages girls to focus on their strategy and team work. Supplies Needed Two different colored t-shirts/towels (for two teams) Nine hula hoops Simple Preparation Lay out nine hula hoops in a 3x3 grid. Instructions Have girls split into two teams of 3-4 players. Give each team a colored t-shirt/towel. Have each team stand on opposite sides of each other at a starting mark away from the grid. In sprints of two (one from each team), players race to place their t-shirt/towel in the tic tac toe board. Next set of players go until one team wins. (If no winner, each player races to re-locate one of the previously placed team t-shirt/towels.)
Success Station #3 I m Supergirl! Supplies Needed Comic Cover template (provided in appendix) Color Markers (fine and medium tip) Color Pencils Simple Preparation Print the Comic Cover template in color. Instructions Provide each girl with a Comic Cover template and markers/colored pencils. Have girls draw themselves as a superhero on the cover and highlight what their super power is!
Success Station #4 Kindness Fortune Teller Supplies Needed Fortune Teller template (provided in appendix) Simple Preparation Print the Fortune Teller template in color. Instructions Have girls cut out the Fortune Teller along the dotted line and follow the instructions on the template to assemble the Fortune Teller. As a group, think about what random acts of kindness you can write under the flaps (examples: tell the principal how great your teacher is, donate a toy to Toys for Tots, compliment a friend, bring cookies to the custodian, hold the door open for someone etc.). There are lots of ideas!! Challenge yourself everyday to use the Fortune Teller and select a random act of kindness!
Success Station #5 Cat Basket Supplies Needed Jute Rope 1/4 inch/25 foot piece for one small basket Tacky glue 1 inch wooden oval craft shapes (for eyes) Small pink buttons (for nose) Three 4 inch pieces of black embroidery floss (for whiskers) Black marker Hot glue Simple Preparation Place a set of supplies at each seat to create a basket. Instructions To make the base, coil the rope, using tacky glue to hold it together as you go around into a 4-1/2 circle or whatever size you d like. Begin gluing the rope on the top of the outer ring. Continue building the sides by adding glue every 1 to 2 inches, until the basket is 4-1/2 inches tall. Make the ears by bending the rope into an ear shape, then hot glue it to the rope on the layer below and on either side of the ear (have an adult help). Leave a 2-inch space, then repeat for the second ear. Trim the end, glue it down and let it dry. Cut three 4-inch pieces of black embroidery floss and knot them in the center. Lay the basket on its side, ears up. Glue the knot and whisker ends to the basket, then glue a pink button to the knot. Draw eyes onto 1-inch oval wooden craft shapes with a marker; glue in place. Glue a 12-inch piece of rope to the back bottom edge of the basket for a tail. Let it dry completely.
Success Station #6 My Future Looks Bright! Supplies Needed Cat Mask template (provided in appendix) Scissors Markers Colored pencils Crayons Simple Preparation Print the Cat Mask template. Instructions Ask the girls what their goal is for the Fall Product Sale, school or anything else they want to achieve! Once they have a goal in mind, have them draw what it would look like when they achieve the goal in the cat eyes. Decorate the mask to reflect your superhero style! Cut out the mask and post it where you can see it everyday as a daily reminder of what you can do! Your power has no limits.
