PRACTICE AND GAMES: SUMMER 2016 YOUTH BASKETBALL Approximate Dates Depending on the division, prac ces begin late May / early June. Season runs from July thru August. Each team will play approx. two games per week; one week night and one. Week night games will be between 5:00pm and 9:00pm. games will be between 9:00am and 6:00pm. Prac ces and games will be played at local Middle Schools or High Schools. Rookie (Coed) Division and Mini Girls will play once a week on s or Sundays between 9:00am and 5:00pm. Mini (Coed) will play between 9:00am 5:00pm. Mini (Coed) may also play week night games which will be between 5:00pm and 8:00pm. and games will last at least an hour. Coaches will contact players with exact prac ce and game schedules on or before June 4th. There will be no prac ces or games held at Woodland Hills Recrea on Center due to renova on plans. PURPOSE OF EVALUATION? NOTIFICATION: T TO WEAR: PLAYER SELECTION: PRACTICE / GAMES BEGIN: EVALUATION LOCATION: WAIT LIST PLAYERS: Every registered player must be evaluated An evalua on is given to determine a player s individual ability. All players are rated and ranked by score to select teams of equal ability. Player evalua ons are not to eliminate weak players. Parents are responsible for bringing their children to evalua ons. YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE A PHONE CALL FROM WOODLAND HILLS REC. CENTER Shorts and basketballs shoes. 4 CITY OF LOS ANGELES DEPARTMENT OF RECREATION & PARKS BE A GOOD SPORT Good Sportsmanship is Everyone s responsibility PLAYER S CODE OF CONDUCT PARENT S CODE OF CONDUCT I hereby pledge to live up to my responsibilities as a Player participating in the Department of Recreation & Parks Sports Program by following the Player s Code of Conduct. I hereby pledge to live up to my responsibilities as a Parent of a child participating in the Department of Recreation & Parks Sports Program by following the Parent s Code of Conduct. 1. I will play by the rules, and refrain from arguing or complaining about the official s decisions. 2. I will be a role model of good sportsmanship and character and will meet my responsibilities to the coach and team 3. I will play for the fun of it, and do my best to make sure that the game is fun for all participants. 4. I will demonstrate fair play and sportsmanship. I will treat participants, coaches, recreation administrators, and the public with respect as I would like to be treated 5. I will refrain from the use of alcohol, drugs, or tobacco at all Youth sports events. 6. I will make only positive and encouraging comments to players on both teams. I will be a good sport by cooperating with my coaches, teammates, opponents and officials. 7. I will remember that the goals of the game are to have fun, improve skills and feel good about playing. I will not take the game or myself to seriously. I will control my temper. 8. I will work equally hard for the team as for myself, and will always give my best effort 9. As a player, I will remember that I am a youth sports player and that the game is for my enjoyment and my skills improvement. 10. I will demonstrate good sportsmanship. I understand that the penalties for not adhering to this Code of Conduct may range from verbal warning to expulsion from the activity. 5 WOODLAND HILLS RECREATION CENTER SUMMER 2016 YOUTH BASKETBALL REFUND POLICY/ INSURANCE: A non refundable 15% administra on fee will be assessed by the recrea on center for any patron granted a refund, change, or transfer per class or sport league registra on. No full refunds will be issued unless a class or sport league is cancelled by the recrea on center. Refunds will not be granted once teams have been dra ed. Neither the City of Los Angeles nor Woodland Hills Recrea on Center carries insurance. Patrons must carry their own insurance policy. Class fees will not be pro rated. Refunds will not be given once program begins. Classes begin the week of April 4 th, 2016 Par cipants must fit in the appropriate age category (no excep ons). Neither the City of Los Angeles nor Woodland Hills Recrea on Center carries insurance or assumes any liability. Patrons must carry their own insurance coverage. Recrea on center staff reserves the right to remove a student from class if the student is not the appropriate age and/or does not have the necessary level of maturity or skill.
