1 Sen ors on the Go ALVIN PARKS AND RECREATION COMMENTS FROM THE COORDINATOR - SHERRY WOLFE We are springing into not only beautiful weather but also the Alvin Senior Center s new active programs! As most of you know the twenty week Active Living Every Day class will begin on April 7th and the evidence based ACES exercise program will begin on April 6th. Those are just a few of the ways we are working to get each and every one of you to become more active this quarter. Our new Healthlete program will begin with an informational kick-off breakfast on April 1st. This is not an April Fools joke so please be sure to Ms Alvin Senior Pageant The Alvin Senior Center is hosting the 3rd Annual Ms. Alvin Senior Pageant. Cathy Hollis has done such a wonderful job representing Alvin this year! Each month a new informational topic will be presented by an expert in that field over a yummy and free lunch. With the wide variety of active opportunities awaiting you at the Center there is sure to be something for everyone! We are headed to Brazos Bend Park to the George Observatory to do a little star gazing. You never know what you might see in the beautiful night sky over Texas. DATE: April 26 TIME: 7:15 pm COST: $ Volunteer Luncheon Every year so many of your peers give so much of themselves to make the Alvin Senior the wonderful place that it is. ACCESS (281) SENIOR SWEET SPOT Weight Watchers Chocolate-Pecan Thins (In honor of National Pecan Month - a more figure friendly way to enjoy pecans) Ingredients 36 Pieces of Pecan Halves 1/2 cup sugar 2 tbsp butter 2 tbsp apple butter 1 large egg white 1 tsp vanilla extract 1/4 cups unsweetened cocoa 1/3 cup all purpose flour 1/2 tsp baking powder Preheat oven to 350 F. Place pecans on a cookie sheet; bake until nuts begin to brown and are fragrant, about 5 minutes. Remove; set aside. Combine sugar and butters in a medium bowl. Beat on medium speed with an electric mixer until soft. Add egg white and vanilla; beat until combined, scraping mixture off sides of bowl as needed. In a medium bowl, whisk together cocoa, flour and baking powder. Add to butter mixture; beat to combine. Drop dough by even teaspoonfuls, about 1 inch apart, onto 3 ungreased cookie sheets. Place 1 pecan half on top of each cookie. Bake for 12 minutes; remove from oven and allow to cool on pan for 5 minutes. Remove cookies with spatula to a rack to cool completely. Yields 2 cookies per serving.
