April 14.Friends of St. James Meeting, MSAH April 24.Kids Night 7:00, MSAH LOWER SCHOOL NEWS It seems the theme in Kindergarten has been celebration. First we celebrated the joy of reading with Read Across America Week that ended in a fabulous Chilifest Picnic and a Character Parade. Then we prepared for spring by trying to trap Leprechauns with our traps. We didn t have much luck but they were kind enough to leave us a little treasure. As we enter into the spring season we look forward to sharing all our exciting news with you. ~ Mrs. Blackshear and Mrs. Harms ~ Mrs. Moreno's 2nd grade scholars had a wonderful time during the Literature Parade and their visit to Trinity Towers. The scholars made some great new friends! ~ Mrs. Moreno ~
Page 3 Dr. Seuss was on the loose! in First Grade, in celebration of Read Across America week. In addition to rereading some of the beloved author s classic books, our scholars enjoyed learning about different types of rhyme scheme, various forms of rhyming and non-rhyming poetry, and building word families. They used the Depth and Complexity elements of big idea, rules, patterns, details, different points of view and ethics as they explored various stories and poems. A highlight of the week was dressing as a favorite Dr. Seuss character for the Literature Parade and visiting Trinity Towers. Scholars spread cheer by visiting with 3 rd Floor residents and reading excerpts from their favorite Dr. Seuss Books to them. ~ Mrs. McIntire ~ RICKHOUNDS!!! Second grade has been learning about rocks and the layers of the earth in science and reading. We're getting excited about our trip to Natural Bridge Caverns next month! ~ Mrs. Smith ~
Page 4 JAGUAR SPIRIT APRIL 2, 2015 LOWER SCHOOL NEWS The month of March has been very exciting for third grade! We started out March with several very fun activities! The first being our very first Outdoor Education trip to The Children s Museum of Houston and to NASA. The museum was a place full of imagination and building. Each place we went to we got to design, build, or see how something worked. It was amazing! Next we went to NASA where we started on a tram tour that took us through the space center. We saw important building, rockets, and robots from space. We even got to walk through a space shuttle! It was a great day! The next day was Chilifest, which we won 1 st place for the Chili cook off, thanks to Mrs. Cathy Montgomery! Then on Friday, we all dressed up as book characters and got to make some people s day at Trinity Towers. It s been a very exciting month! ~ Ms. Ivey ~ MIDDLE SCHOOL Underground Railroad 8 th grade just finished their Underground Railroad project, complete with the chase through the middle school to freedom in Canada. Some scholar projects are in the library.
Page 5 MIDDLE SCHOOL 8 th grade is finishing The Diary of Anne Frank, and is rationing luxury items. 7 th grade has started The Call of the Wild and will also read Our Town this quarter. 6 th grade will be concentrating on poetry, short stories and writing this quarter, all of which will culminate in a major poetry project for the end of the quarter. WARNING: Pictured below are images of Mrs. Hargis 7th grade Science class dissecting fetal pigs! Thank you, Dr. Naismith, for sharing your time and expertise with our scholars.
Page 6 JAGUAR SPIRIT APRIL 2, 2015 ART ACTIVITIES The 3rd graders worked steadily making horn books in Art class. All of our grade levels worked during their Art classes to make stunning crosses, canvases, and doors to auction off at the Spring Fling.
