2 VISION By providing high-quality and innovative arts education and training, taught by professional artists, the city of Aurora s Cultural Arts program will create a new generation of artists, patrons, community members and informed citizens and will provide an avenue of expression for young people who are often denied a voice. FINE ART AND MUSIC The city of Aurora classes in visual art and music are designed to nurture individual creativity, encourage collaboration, and give participants the chance to explore new and sometimes different experiences in the arts. Supplies are provided for youth classes. Supply lists for adult classes are available online at AurorGov.org/Arts or by calling

3 ART CAMPS Half day camps are offered June and July for one week at a time, Monday through Thursday. Camp participants should bring their own snacks and drink each day. Art is messy, so wear appropriate clothes. All camps are held at Bicentennial Art Center E. Alameda Ave., Aurora, $82 Res. ($102 Non-Res.) 5 PORTRAIT DRAWING & SKETCHING Learn the fundamental rules of strong light and shadow, the planes of the face, specific features of the faceeyes, nose, lips, ears, and more. All while using techniques ranging from formal classical realism to impressionistic to wild eyed scribble. Instructor Paul Birchak. No class July 6. Aurora Center for Active Adults $58 Res. Tangling has many benefits, including calming anxiety and increasing selfconfidence and inner focus. Taught by Zentangle Certified Instructor Cindy Winsel. Supplies provided. TANGLE BY DESIGN II Add shadows, highlights and color to your tangles August POLYMER CLAY Polymer clay is a soft, pliable, plastic clay that retains its color when baked. It can be used to make jewelry, decorative pieces for home, scrapbooking, and sculpture. $20 supply fee due to instructor at first class. Instructor Liz Hall. No class July 5. $54 Res. ($70 Non-Res.) 6 PHOTOGRAPHY LEARN YOUR CAMERA This class will cover basic camera operations and will explore program mode, exposure compensation and advanced features. Bring your camera and manual. FREEZE THE ACTION July 13 Learn how to use your camera settings to freeze the action and capture those memorable moments. LONG EXPOSURE July 20 Learn to paint with light. Use long exposure to capture light in motion and other light related special effects. MUSIC Bring your guitar. Keyboards are provided in class but it is recommended that students have keyboard or piano at home. YOUTH PIANO/KEYBOARD Ages 7-13 Learning to play the piano is easy and fun! This is an 8 week class. No class July June 20-Aug. 1 Tuesday, 6:45-7:30 p.m. Ages $122 ($96 Res.) AURORA DANCE ARTS SUMMER CAMPS 2017 Twirl your way through summer with Aurora Dance Arts! Half day camps offered throughout June and July for one week at a time, Monday through Friday, in a variety of dance genres and geared for multiple age and ability levels. All camps include dance technique and choreography, stimulating activities and crafts that fit the theme of each camp, and performance sharings with parents. Dancers involved in our summer camps have the opportunity to explore new dance styles, make friends, move their bodies, be creative, and have an exciting and enjoyable summer dance experience. Students should bring their own water bottles and snacks each day, and the required attire is comfortable, form-fitting athletic wear such as leotards, tank tops, tights, leggings, dance pants or shorts, and shoes appropriate for the theme of each camp (ex. ballet shoes, sneakers, bare feet, etc). 8 POMS & CHEER DANCE Ages 7-12 This camp is an introduction to arm movements, jumps, turns, leaps, cheers, and dances appropriate for cheerleading and poms June p.m. SUPER HEROES & VILLAINS DANCE Ages 4-6 Join us for this fantastic jazz/hip hop based camp celebrating all of our favorite comic book characters June a.m.-noon ALL STYLES DANCE Ages 7-12 Interested in dance, but aren t sure which style is best for you? Why not try a bunch! Styles include ballet, jazz, hip hop, tap and contemporary, and learn short dances to perform at the end of the week! June p.m. WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE DANCE Ages 4-6 This ballet and jazz based camp combines the fun of dance with the wild animals and creative crafts. Let your dancer s imagination grow like jungle vines! STOMP IT OUT DANCE Ages 7-12 This camp will focus on beginning levels of tap and creation of rhythms with tap shoes and regular household items in the tradition of the musical, Stomp July p.m. BE A BROADWAY BABY DANCE Ages 7-13 Learn dance technique, acting and singing skills and choreography from Broadway musicals past and present July p.m. HIP HOP & BREAKING WORKSHOP Ages 7-16 Want to take your hip hop and breaking skills to the next level? Join us for this exciting camp that focuses on all the next level tricks and power moves of this powerful dance style! July p.m July a.m.-noon

9 ACCELERATE! 2017 SUMMER DANCE INTENSIVE Ages This 3-week intensive is offered 6 days a week and is geared toward dedicated students whose concentration is accelerating to the highest level of dance training during the summer months. This year s intensive will also include student choreography workshops and a performance! Eligibility requirements do apply. Registration available through the Dance Office ONLY. Please call for this exciting experience! July Monday-Saturday $400 ($325 Res.) Meadow Hills and Expo 1-4 p.m. THEATRE CAMPS AND CLASSES Create and perform a play. Learn about storytelling, improvisation, script writing, acting and characterization. Develop lifelong learning skills, such as listening, reading, writing, memorization, concentration and team work. Students in the following camps are expected to attend each class and to memorize their lines by the deadline prior to the performance date. Theatre performances and demonstrations are held on the last day of class during the class period. Seating is limited to two or three spots per student depending upon the size of the class and the venue. Students should bring water bottles and snacks and dress for movement (sneakers, shorts or pants etc.) These are half day camps that meet over the course of one to three weeks, Mondays through Fridays.
