6 IN YOUR BACKYARD PROGRAMS GET OUTSIDE BUILD NEW SKILLS HELP LOCAL LAND COMMUNITY PROGRAMS WITH ALLEGHENY LAND TRUST'S EDUCATION TEAM Allegheny Land Trust is a nonprofit land conservation organization helping local people save land in the Pittsburgh region since ALT has more than 2,100 acres of protected green space that are now utilized for environmental education to add a fresh perspective to green space exploration. Venango Trail is one of those conservation areas, and it's near you. COMMUNITY PROGRAMS AT VENANGO TRAIL MACRO MAYHEM MONDAY OCTOBER 2 4:30PM - 6:30PM Wade with our educators into the creek at our Venango Trail conservation area in search of macroinvertebrates. You ll learn how to identify the critters, and learn what they mean for the health of our water. Great for families and community groups. We will be getting wet to varying degrees, and closed-toe shoes are required. ONCE IN A BLUE MOON MARCH 31, PM - 8PM What makes this moon a blue moon? Learn with our experts as we hike through the forest s filtered moonlight. Listen to moon lore and find your moon shadow. Fun hands-on moon-centered activities will keep us active, and although the moon may not be made of cheese you ll be able to enjoy a moon snack at the end of the hike. Great for families and community groups or as an extra credit activity for science classes. STARLIGHT STROLL APRIL 30, PM - 9PM Ever wonder what our green spaces are like after dark? Stroll under the light of each month's full moon with our trained education staff. Topics vary depending on the evening s leader, and can include nocturnal and crepuscular creatures, astronomy, lore, and more! FIND MORE INFO & RSVP FOR INDIVIDUAL EVENTS: alleghenylandtrust.org/events Learn more about Allegheny Land Trust and the Environmental Education Team x210 alleghenylandtrust.org The School District does not sponsor or sanction this program/event/activity.

7 IN YOUR REGION PROGRAMS GET OUTSIDE BUILD NEW SKILLS HELP LOCAL LAND MORE ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS IN THE REGION Allegheny Land Trust's (ALT's) Environmental Education Team brings a land conservation perspective to curriculum, offering environmental education to more Southwestern Pennsylvania citizens - students, teachers, and curious adults alike! Explore the region while learning about its ecology with our Education Team! NEARBY PROGRAMS FORESTRY DEAD MAN'S HOLLOW OCTOBER 7 12PM - 5PM Join us at Dead Man's Hollow for a day of exploration! Learn the history, lore, and biodiversity of this unique conservation area. This program is great for families, and Boy Scouts can earn their Forestry Merit Badge via this workshop. TWITTER IN THE VARIOUS LOCATIONS VARIOUS DATES Listen to the sounds of the forests, meadows, streams, and tweets as we count the wide variety of birds that call these green spaces home. No experience or equipment needed. Join the second portion of the December program to help log species as part of the international bird count. OCTOBER AUDUBON GREENWAY 8AM - 10AM DECEMBER WINGFIELD PINES 8AM - 10AM, 10AM - 4PM MARCH 10, WINGFIELD PINES 8AM - 10AM FUNGUS AMONG DEAD MAN'S HOLLOW OCTOBER 21 10AM - 12PM Ever wonder what that mushroom is growing in your yard? Join us as we search for the myriad of fungus species that can be found. Wear good hiking shoes and bring a camera and your favorite field guide if you have them. We will not be harvesting the specimen, but instead will leave them for others to appreciate. BOUNTIFUL BOTANY AUDUBON GREENWAY NOVEMBER 4 10AM 12PM Take a walk with one of our trained education staff as we identify a portion of the botanical diversity that can be found growing at our green spaces. Wear good hiking shoes and bring a camera and your favorite field guide if you have them. We couldn't fit all of the community programs we have to offer in just one document.
