1 SOBRATO HIGH SCHOOL CHEER MISSION STATEMENT The Sobrato Cheerleading Team is an academic-athletic team with focus on: 1. Showing school pride in the SHS campus, athletics, events, students, and faculty. 2. Being role models and ambassadors in the eyes of the school and community. 3. Continuing to grow academically and being alive in learning. SQUAD COMPOSITION Varsity Cheer: Max. of 25 Members Junior Varsity Cheer: Max. of 25 Members ATTENDANCE AND TIME COMMITMENT Membership of the Cheer Team demands time, loyalty, unity, dedication, and commitment. Before trying out, please consider this. All appointments and work schedules MUST be made around practices and games NO EXCEPTIONS. Excused absences include the following: Religious commitments Family Emergencies Illness with a doctor s note or Guardian morning of practice. Guardians must contact the coach(es) 24 hours in advance of missing a practice/game or the morning of student missing a school day. NO STUDENT TEXT MESSAGES. We will be implementing the 3 strikes rule for our cheerleading team this year. Any unexcused absence= 1 Full Strike 3 Tardies= 1 Full Strike 3 Strikes= Removal from the team. 2 CODE OF CONDUCT 1. Your behavior, good or bad, is a reflection of the whole team and school. 2. Cheerleaders are expected to have a Growth Mindset. 3. Under no circumstance will negative attitudes be tolerated. 4. Cheerleaders will conduct themselves in a respectful manner. 5. Under no circumstance will any cheerleader show any public displays of affection with a significant other while in any SHS cheer uniform. 6. Cheerleaders will under no circumstances be in possession or under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or tobacco. 7. All cheerleaders must dress within the Sobrato High School dress code. 8. All cheerleaders will be in full participation of spirit dress days. 9. There will be no phone use at practice/games unless otherwise specified. 10. Each team member is responsible for bringing their full uniform to each game (full uniform, bow, cheer shoes, poms, and full warm up) any missing piece will result in the rest of the team not being able to wear said piece. 11. Jewelry and gum are prohibited during practice and games. Any and all jewelry must be removed before the start of any practice or game. 12. Athletes who miss half or more of a school day are not eligible to attend that day s practice and is the guardians AND athlete s responsibility to notify the coach(es) before practice. 13. Athletes who suffer injuries or illness must consult a doctor within 24 hours. If injury or illness hinders or limits an athlete s performance and/or practice capabilities, that athlete will be required to provide a doctor s note outlining the specific limitations. Injured athletes are still expected to attend all events and practices. 14. All minor injuries must be reported to the coach(es) immediately. 15. Fingernails must be kept at a natural length. NO FAKE NAILS. If a cheerleader has acrylic nails, they (and their stunt group) will NOT be allowed to stunt. 16. All students are required to dress out at all practices in athletic attire athletic shoes must be worn at practice at all times. Camp clothes will be used as practice attire. ACADEMIC STANDARDS 1. Sobrato High School cheerleaders are to maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA. Failure to reach this are grounds for academic probation ( benched until the next quarter). 2. Any cheerleader with lower than a 2.5 GPA may be asked to fill out progress reports at the discretion of the coach(es). 3. Cheerleaders who have been placed on academic probation two times in one season will be dismissed from the team.

3 FAMILY INVOLVEMENT 1. All cheer families are asked to participate in fundraising for the team. 2. Guardians shall not override any rules or regulations. If there is a problem, please contact the coach(es) ASAP. 3. Transportation Families will be responsible for setting up carpools to and from away games. Sobrato High School rules state that no student shall drive themselves to or from any away sporting event. 4. Boosters Families are encouraged to become Boosters members Free admittance to all games & it raises money for cheer! Guardians will be asked to sign up to attend at least one Boosters meeting to represent cheerleading ESTIMATED EXPENSES The cost of cheer expenses will be roughly $1150 for each new cheerleader. This includes camp tuition and all practice attire. Expenses will be split up into 6 payments. Some payments will be made to ASB Some payments will be due ONLINE via the Varsity Payment Portal Orders CANNOT be cancelled once the order has been placed. NO REFUNDS after orders are placed. Arrangements can be made! UNIFORM Cheerleaders WILL be able to wear their full uniforms to school as long as they follow the school s dress code. All returning cheerleaders will be asked to bring their skirt to fittings on May 10th for approval. Returning cheerleaders that would like to donate used uniform pieces for other members in need will be very much appreciated! : )

4 TRYOUT ELIGIBILITY 1. Before trying out for the Sobrato High cheer team, cheerleaders must have: a. A valid physical form for this year b. Paid off balance from previous year(s) c. All paperwork turned in (see checklist) 2. Cheerleaders may NOT participate in any other winter/fall sports or activities that would conflict with the cheer schedule. 3. Candidates selected to be a member of the cheerleading team are expected to make a commitment for the full cheerleading year. 4. Any cheerleader who voluntarily quits the team before the end of the cheerleading year will not be eligible to tryout the following year. TRYOUT INFO 1. Tryout Practices will be held from 4:30-6:30 on April 11, 12, 18, 19, and 25 in either the small/back of the gym or the dance room. 2. Official Tryouts will be on April 26th in the dance room. 3. Results will be posted on Monday, May 1st at 5:00pm Team Practice will begin in July. Time and place to be announced.
