1 Gure Club eko Berriak Next Basque Club Meeting Date: Friday, September 25, 2015 Time: Place: September 2015 Club Website: 7:00 pm Ariella Barrutia's condo association clubhouse 1525 E Village III Rd. Salt Lake City, UT Club Participates at Carmelite Fair The Basque Club of Utah participated in the Carmelite Fair on September 20. Thank you to Marc Gaztambide for chairing the booth and to all those who helped cook and sell food. The dancers gave a great performance and the crowd loved them! Also, preparations for the Halloween and Holiday Parties. Bring your favorite snack and plan to attend! Looking for Venue for Udaleku As stated in last month s newsletter, the Basque Club of Utah will be hosting Udaleku in the summer of 2016! The dates for the Basque Culture camp are July 10 through July 22. Participants range in age from 10 to 15 years old. The club is currently looking for a place to hold the camp. If anyone has any suggestions or has any connections to a suitable venue please contact Catherine Barajas at or at cbarajas5@msn.com. Upcoming Events September First day of Autumn October UEA Convention (No public school) October Club Halloween Party October Halloween November Club Meeting November Thanksgiving December 5... Holiday Party December First Day of Winter We would need about 5-6 classrooms or meeting rooms, a full kitchen that we can use to cook in and a gym/dance floor or outdoor recreation area. In addition to the venue, the club will also need members to host the children, the instructors and aides. We will need volunteers to work cooking, cleaning and assisting with the daily activities. If you aren t able to do any of these things, please consider making a monetary or food donation to help. 1 Thank you all in advance for your help.

2 Halloween Party on Friday, Oct 23! Mark your calendar now for the annual Basque Club of Utah Halloween Party. The party will be held on Friday, October 23 in Midvale. This is a pot-luck dinner so bring your favorite recipe that feeds 10 to the party. For more information on the party, look for a flyer in the mail. Club Member Featured in Interview Congratulations to Cedar Hoover, son of Carmen Larrinaga and Chad Hoover, who completed a summer internship at the University of Utah, researching a protein designed to kill ovarian cancer cells. Special Guest Speaker at Meeting At this next club meeting on September 25th, the club will have a guest speaker. Detective Mike Wilkinson, from the Cold Case Investigation Unit of the Summit County Sheriff s Office, will be speaking about a case he is currently investigating: the death/murder of a Basque sheepherder in Wyoming. He is hoping to possibly gain some information about this case from our members. Please make sure to attend. Don t have an account? Use the web page. Holiday Party on December 5 Our annual Basque Club of Utah Holiday Party will be held on December 5. The party will start at 6:00 pm with dinner served at 6:30 pm. The dancers will be performing and there will be a visit from Santa. This party is pot luck style so bring your favorite dish that feeds 10 people and plan to attend. More details will be in the next newsletter. Volunteer to be the chair of this party today! 2

3 NEWS Congratulations to: Stephanie(Archibeque) and Whit Taylor on the birth of their baby boy, Max George Taylor, on July18. Cedar Hoover, son of Carmen Larrinaga and Chad Hoover, who completed a summer internship at the University of Utah, researching a protein designed to kill ovarian cancer cells. Get Well to: Peggy Peterson, who broke her hip. Madalena Sangroniz, who spent some time in the hospital Condolences to: The Carricaburu, Horyna, Gaztambide and Maxfield families on the death of Julie Carricaburu Horyna, daughter of John and Pat Carricaburu. Welcome Back to: Amanda Maxfield, who went to Chiguiri Arriba, a remote village in Panama, for 6 weeks to volunteer her help to the villagers. Her family was not able to communicate with her the entire time and are very relieved to have her home. Know someone who Qualifies to be a Member? Changed Your Address?
