August Fliers September COMING EVENTS Pasta Night Meat Raffle Car Wash Trivia Night Clambake Moose Races Keri for Kids End of Summer Bash With surf n Turf Dinner Kids Crafts Sports Sunday Game Day Wow, can you believe it, summer is over? Anyway, it is September and the very first thing we should think about is September 11 th. Already ten years since one of the lowest times of our country's history and in my opinion, a day that this great country was defeated in our own back yard by coward terrorists. So please, wherever you are on Sunday September 11 th that morning, stop and have a moment of silence to remember all the great firemen, policemen, EMT's and just regular hard working Americans who were doing nothing but going to work that day; never forget them. Ok back to us, lots of great stuff as usual here at the lodge this past summer, put on by the same hard working people of this lodge. I don't say that in a bad way, they are the backbone of this operation. There were lots of events as usual and poor support from our membership. Now I know it was summertime and everyone wants to be outdoors (me too), but it is very disappointing to me to see all the hard work put in by our people to put these events together for our members and get no one showing up. I also know as well as anyone that this economy bites (I'll use good words) and I know money is tight for everyone, but I also know for our sake of mind, we all need to get out and enjoy ourselves. While watching our finances, it is a benefit to you as a member to come here for your cheapest night out. Great food, great drink and great entertainment put on for you right here, so come on down. Lots of great stuff happening this month (and every month) at the lodge. The Patriots are starting up, the Red Sox in the playoffs, our Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins getting ready to defend their title, so come down here and enjoy them. Having said that, we have been feeling the effects of this lousy economy. If you don't participate and we have no support here, at some point, we as a board will have to evaluate cutting back on some things in the future. I hope it doesn't ever come to that, but if you don't support your lodge, we cannot continue to put on all these first class events. And in keeping on this subject, if you are not coming down to the lodge because of things you re not happy with, please see me and tell me. I am not as unapproachable as some might say. If you like or don't like certain things we do or you have an idea you want to see here, tell us. As I have said many times before, no idea is a bad idea. Tell us what you want to see or hear. Just another reminder to you, the kitchen is open. It never did shut down this summer. Great food for great prices (pizza and other specials every weeknight) and Administrator Sunday breakfast is back starting September 11 th. If you haven t signed up for the Quarterback Club yet, please do so now. If you re a new member, ask your bartender about it, it s a lot of fun. Look for a night at the races coming up in October. Horses and dogs; do you think you re a good handicapper? You don t need to bring your own horses or dogs, we already have them. As you can see, we are keeping events going on as usual but we need support for your lodge. Lastly, if you don't know me or any other officer in this lodge, come over and say hello. Let s have a pint together. C YOU AT THE LODGE Sincerely, Denis J. Gaine

Dear Brothers and Sisters, Hope you all survived Irene with minimal damage and have your electricity working. It rained on our Luau but didn t dampen the spirits of the folks who were able to show up. There was good company and a good variety of food that was enjoyed by all. I d like to thank those of you who participated and/or made some of those great dishes. For just $5.00, how could you go wrong for all the food and entertainment that was provided? A special thanks to Jack Hennessy for volunteering to provide you with the entertainment. The MA/RI annual convention was as fun as it was informative. I will be sharing some of that information with you at our membership meeting. What I would like to share with you now is that our lodge donated the most money overall to the various Moose Charities this past fiscal year, over $15,000 to the endowment fund, surf safe, special Olympics, and special projects at Mooseheart and Moosehaven. This is why our lodge exists folks and you can take pride knowing your lodge is at the forefront statewide in providing the necessary funds to keep these wonderful programs going strong. Now that Labor Day is upon us, things are just heating up here at the lodge as we have many things planned for September. The meat raffle starts up again on the Friday the 9 th with a roasted chicken dinner proceeding it. There is a car wash on the 10 th. There is also the Yarmouth Golf Tournament that day to raise funds to bring the kids from the New England Home at Mooseheart here to New England next summer. As a side note, they were here from July 25 th to August 13 th and visited lodges from MA, CT and the Northeast (NH, ME + VT) and had a great time. I would really like for our lodge to host an event for these kids next year so you can meet them yourselves. More to come on that. On Sunday, September 11 th, there will be a quick ceremony at the lodge at 9:45 a.m. that precedes the Moose Legion meeting. Breakfast on Sundays will also start back up that day. There is a pasta night on Thursday the 15 th by the WOTM. Trivia night on Friday the 16 th. The clambake is on the Saturday the 17 th from 3-7 pm with entertainment by Jon Boswer. Buy your tickets for that now, you don t want to miss that event. There will also be entertainment by the folks of PB+J later that evening if you can t make the clambake. Moose races on Friday the 23 d, Keri for Kids on Saturday the 24 th. Rocky and Monique Basile will be hosting an End of Summer Bash that evening from 6-12 with a surf n turf dinner and live entertainment for only $ WOW! There will be a Kid s Craft Day on the 25 th from 1-3. There will also be a Sunday Sports Day on the 25th starting at 1. Both the Red Sox (vs NYY) and the Patriots (vs Buffalo) are playing that day. There will be food, snacks and some prizes during the games. Bring the kids down to be entertained while you watch the games! And as usual, there will be weekly karaoke on Fridays and live entertainment on Saturdays. There is still time to join the quarterback club for you football enthusiasts, but not much. If haven t joined before or don t know what it is, please ask someone. It is a lot of fun. We are going to continue with the lobster and bottle raffles on Saturdays. You do not have to be present to win and tickets for them are available at the bar all week. The kitchen is still open with plenty of daily specials. Lizzy does such a great job, the menu is priced very affordable and the food is absolutely delicious. We are going to continue with the weekday pizza and a beer special for only $4.00 as well. Weekly Sunday Breakfasts are back! The WOTM will be cooking the first one starting on Sunday, September 11 th from As you can see, we are trying to Create Some Interest by offering a full range of activities, raffles and great food for you that is either free or very reasonable priced for your enjoyment. Please come down and enjoy them. I look forward to seeing you at the lodge. For All You Do! Fraternally yours, Steven Sherlock, Governor

6 Page 6 September 2011 MOOSE LEGION REPORT Next Legion Meeting - September 11th at 9:45 am Hello to all Moose Legionnaires! September, 2011 Greetings Moose Legionnaires, I hope everyone had a wonderful Summer and wonderful vacation time with your families. The two previous meetings were ultimately missed due to the rescheduling them to Wednesday evenings. We are moving the meetings back to Sunday mornings at 10 am starting September 11th and the first Sunday of the month after that. We'll just have to see what our Fine Master has to say about that at our next meeting. Yes, we're bringing back the fine master, raffles or 50/50s and hopefully a quite a bit of fun. It's time to return to our roots and make the Moose Legion fun again. To borrow from a couple of past campaigns... The Time Is Now To Git Er Done. We have much to talk about and I hope to see each of you at our meeting. Let's set a plan to bring back those that may have strayed because our meetings were boring or worse not held. I'm in the works for getting an updated list of eligible Moose Legion Candidates. Invitations will be sent out in a different way. As we learned at the Annual Convention from our OV Bob Neff Moose International Director Of Ritual And Higher Degrees and our Regional Manager Scotty Fiske. If you were in attendance you heard their words of wisdom first hand. September brings a return of many events we've missed over the Summer from our Pasta Nights to our Sunday Family Breakfasts. September also brings many events from our 911 Remembrance Ceremony to the Keri For Kids Walk. Stay tuned to the newsletter and many fliers for these important events. There are still some Moose Legion #28 High Tech Raffle tickets available. Tickets are 6 for $ st prize is a Laptop Computer. 2d prize is an Amazon Kindle. 3rd prize is a Magellan GPS System. If interested, please let me know or show up to this months meeting on September 11th. Two upcoming Moose Legion events will be our Annual Cathedral Of The Pines Memorial Service hosted by Minute Men 28 Moose Legion up in Ringe, New Hampshire. The other event is our Family Center's 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony. We'll be raising our 9/11 Flag and holding a short service at 9:45AM followed by our Moose Legion Meeting. Moose Members, do you believe you're eligible to be Conferred with the Degree Of Service? The requirements are quite simple you must have sponsored one Moose member in one year OR you must have sponsored three Moose members in six months.
