1 Saturday Edition September 16, 2017 page 3 Welcome to the 54th! Pennsylvania is a national leader in the dairy industry, with total cash receipts of nearly $2 billion annually. We re also the country s second largest exporter of dairy products, so we re proud to host this international celebration of milk and dairy excellence, said Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding. Nearly 3,000 dairy cows and 1,500 exhibitors from around the world will gather in Harrisburg, and visitors will have an opportunity to see the dairy industry up close. In addition, we encourage guests to explore the largest gathering of dairy-related antiques and collectibles and shop for dairy-related merchandise while you re here. There is plenty to see and do at the. The 20 th All-Dairy Antiques and Collectibles Show will feature treasures from all segments of the dairy industry, from farms to processing and retail, on display and for sale. Show hours are 8 AM 5 PM each day of the event. Antiques are showcased as part of the Dairy Activities Center, which features a trade show, retailers, a dairy youth juried art gallery, and food vendors, including Farm Show Milkshakes. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS The All-American maintains a tremendous commitment to our youth exhibitors between the shows, youth activities, and the opportunity to experience the best of the dairy industry right here in Harrisburg, said Alan McCauley, president of the Pennsylvania Dairy and Allied Industries Association, which hosts the show. It s part of our mission to help prepare the next generation of dairy leaders. We re looking forward to welcoming exhibitors of all ages and their families this week. The 14 th Premier National Junior Events, set for September 16-18, are youth shows, contests and programs themed Legends of the Fall. This year s event includes seven national shows culminating with the selection of Supreme Champion cow and heifer on Monday, September 18, at 3 PM. Learn more about the PNJS event efforts on page 4. All exhibitors and other dairy producers are welcome to celebrate the show and recognize the Obie and Image award winners and the Arthur Nesbit Scholarship recipients. Milkshake Madness a celebrity milkshakemaking contest sponsored by Turkey Hill featuring teams of local media personalities, legislators and youth exhibitors, on Tuesday at 11 AM. Snack with the Vendors producers are invited to visit with the vendors in the Dairy Activity Center from 3:30-5:30 PM. on Tuesday. Eastern Elite Sale the sale offers top quality genetics from young calves to mature cows in the Holstein, Jersey and Red & White breeds. Sale information is available at or by calling Celebrate with Performance Probiotics a wine and cheese reception sponsored by Performance Probiotics, LLC, on Wednesday at 4:30 PM. 3 PUMPKIN YOGURT CHEESECAKE SHAKE INGREDIENTS 1 can (14 ounces) pumpkin, chilled 3 ounces reduced-fat cream cheese 1 container (6 ounces) lowfat vanilla yogurt 2 cups lowfat milk 1/4 cup brown sugar 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg 6 teaspoons graham cracker crumbs, optional INSTRUCTIONS Place all ingredients (except graham cracker crumbs) in a blender and blend until smooth. 4 PREMIER NATIONAL JUNIOR SHOW FOCUSES ON DAIRY INDUSTRY S NEXT GENERATION Dairy youth will take center stage at the nation s largest youth dairy competition later this month as the Premier National Junior Events get underway as part of the All- American Dairy Show. Activities for this year s events, themed Legends of the Fall, include shows, socials, a talent show, an art contest, as well as judging, herd management, and farm management contests. These activities strike a balance between education and entertainment, providing a blend of experiences for youth ages eight to 21. There s no better place to experience the best of the dairy industry while honing your skills in contests that test real-world dairy knowledge, said Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding. These kids are the future of our industry they will be farmers, scientists, business owners, technicians, advocates and more, said Pennsylvania Dairy and Allied Industries President Alan McCauley. We give them tremendous opportunities here and now to give them the tools to lead the dairy industry into the future.
