2 Registration? What Does That Mean? Companionship Buzz Companionship has been throwing the word registration around a lot lately, but what does it really mean? For Companionship registration means signing up and paying any fees for an event or class by a specific date. This ensures that we reach the minimum number of participants required in order to hold the event or class. We offer several different ways to register. They are: Online Once at the webpage, click on the Register Online link. This method allows you to register 24 hours a day using a Visa or MasterCard. Phone In Call You can register over the phone Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm using a Visa or MasterCard. Walk In Head to the Lakewood Community Center (located at 9112 Lakewood Drive SW in Lakewood) Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm. This method allows you to pay by cash, check, Visa, or MasterCard. Mail In Complete the registration form to the right and mail it along with your payment to the Lakewood Community Center at 9112 Lakewood Drive SW, Lakewood, WA, With this method you can pay with check, Visa, or MasterCard. Fax In Complete the form to the right and fax it to This allows you to register 24 hours a day using a Visa or Master- Card. 6 February 2 - Super Bowl Party 3:00-8:00 p.m. Environmental Svs. Bldg. at Chambers Creek Park th Street West, University Place Come cheer on your favorite team with us! We ll be watching the game on the big screen, while serving up tasty food and providing other fun activities. This event requires registration with payment by January 27th. See page 2 for registration information. $30/family of four; $5 for each additional family member (fee includes food, prizes, and photo) February 7 - Monthly Swim Night 7:00-8:30 p.m. Clover Park High School Pool Gravelly Lake Drive, Lakewood Time to splash around with all of your Companionship friends at our monthly swim night! FREE February 7 - Top Chef: Tailgating Food Lakewood Community Center, Room # Lakewood Drive SW, Lakewood Are you ready for some yummy food!?!?! This is our first session of this season s Top Chef classes, and we are ready to eat! Learn to cook easy, fun, and most importantly tasty tailgating food this month. Remember, this class requires registration with payment no later than February 4th! See page 2 for registration information. $12/person for this session, or $30/person for all 3 sessions this season (fee includes all materials and ingredients) February 10 - Companionship Community Round Table: East County 7:00-8:00 p.m. Frontier Lodge at Frontier Park Meridian South, Graham Companionship wants to hear from you, our participants! Join us at our first of (cont. next column) February Events 3 sessions this month, and share your thoughts about the program, activity ideas, and anything else you d like us to know! We ll provide snacks and some quiet activities for our younger participants. Everyone is welcome to attend! If you can t make this session, don t worry! We ll be holding similar sessions on February 18 & 19. FREE February 15 - Sensory Friendly Movie: The Lego Movie (Rated PG) 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. AMC Loews Lakewood Towne Center 12 Theater 5721 Main Street SW, Lakewood We re headed to the movies! Come watch this fun new animated film in a safe and accepting environment. The lights are turned up a little and the sound is turned down. You can also bring your own snacks and dance in the aisles if you want! Tickets for this showing are only available the day of the movie at the theater. We ll meet just outside of the auditorium. $7/person February 18 - Companionship Community Round Table: West County (Peninsula) 6:00-7:00 p.m. Gig Harbor Civic Center, Room A 3510 Grandview Street, Gig Harbor We want to hear from our participants on the Peninsula too! Share your program thoughts and ideas with us while snacking on treats. Quiet activities will be provided for our younger participants. Everyone is welcome to attend! Our next session will be on February 19. FREE February 19 - Companionship Community Round Table: Central County 6:00-7:00 p.m. Sprinker Recreation Center, Alder Room C Street South, Tacoma This is the last of our 3 sessions. If you weren t able to make it to the previous 2, make sure to swing by this one! We want to know your thoughts and ideas about the Companionship Program! We ll provide snacks and some quiet activities for our younger participants. Everyone is welcome to attend! FREE February 21 - Pajama Jam! 700-9:00 p.m. Ballou Jr. High Commons th Street East, Puyallup It s time for our 5th annual Pajama Jam! Slip into your pajamas, grab a friend, and come dance! We ll have the Wii set up for gaming fun, crafts, snacks, and other activities. A raffle ticket and photo with frame are included in the admission price. Additional raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the door. $8/person if you register and pay by 2/19; $10/person after 2/19 February 25 - Pack the Gym: Bonney Lake vs. Sumner 6:30-8:30 p.m. Bonney Lake High School Gym th Ave. Ct. East, Bonney Lake Cheer on the Sumner and Bonney Lake Special Olympics basketball teams with Companionship! There will be a individual skills competition starting at 6:30 with tip off at 7:00. Let s wear our green Friends of Companionship shirts and show everyone how much Companionship appreciates our athletes! If you haven t received your free shirt yet, call , and let us know! Meet up just outside of the gym. FREE, but Bonney Lake is holding a canned food drive February 28 - Craft-Tastic: Fleece Scarves Lakewood Community Center, Room # Lakewood Drive SW, Lakewood It s crafting time again! This season we ll be making all kinds of crazy, fun things. We re starting by making easy fleece scarves. No sewing experience is necessary, and we ll have a variety of colors to choose from. Remember, this class requires registration with payment no later than February 25th! 8 March Events March 5 - Spread the Word to End the Word Glow Out Dance Party 5:00-7:00 p.m. North Star Elementary th Street East, Graham Once again Companionship is setting out to encourage inclusion and acceptance for all! This year we re partnering with the PTA at North Star Elementary to bring you a fun night of dancing, activities, and games. Additional games and crafts will be offered in a quiet area. Like all of Companionship s programs and parties, this one is open to all ages and abilities, and there is no need to be a North Star student to attend! Admission includes glow sticks and a Spread the Word bracelet. Additional glow sticks will be available for purchase at the party. $5/participant when pre-registration and payment by March 3; $7/participant after March 3 March 7 - Monthly Swim Night 7:00-8:30 p.m. Clover Park High School Pool Gravelly Lake Drive, Lakewood Time to splash around with all of your Companionship friends at our monthly swim night! FREE March 7 - Top Chef: Breakfast Lakewood Community Center, Room # Lakewood Drive SW, Lakewood They say that breakfast is the most important meal of day. We couldn t agree more, because we love to eat yummy breakfast foods! Come learn easy techniques and recipes for tasty breakfast treats Remember, this class requires registration with payment no later than March 4th! See page 2 for registration information. $12/person for this session (fee includes all materials and ingredients) March 15 - Science Dome Trip: Comets, Asteroids and Meteors, Oh My! 2:00-2:40 p.m. Pierce College Science Dome, Rainer Building # Farwest Drive SW, Lakewood What makes comets, asteroids, and meteors different from each other? Are they just rocks that float around in space? Companionship wants to find out! Make sure you re buckled in as we zoom through our solar system! Feel the ice cold of comets and the warm heat from the sun. Learn how space affects comets, asteroids, and meteors. This event includes hands on activities and an interactive show where you can get up and move around if you want! Space is limited for this event, so be sure to arrive in plenty of time. $3/participant (cash only); adults and children under 3 years old are free March 21 - Pirate Party Lakewood Community Center 9112 Lakewood Drive SW Yo ho! Yo ho! It s a pirate s life for us! Grab your best swashbuckling gear and swagger on down to Companionship s Pirate Party. We ll have games, activities, crafts, and snacks all laid out like a bountiful treasure! Don t be a scurvy dog, and be sure to register ahead of time for this great party! Registration for this party ends March 19th. See page 2 for registration information. Each pirate will receive a goody bag and photo to take home at the end of the night. $8/pirate when registered with payment by 3/19 $10/pirate after 3/19 March 28 - Craft-Tastic: Tee Shirt Art Lakewood Community Center, Room # Lakewood Drive SW, Lakewood What to do with all of those old tee shirts you ve outgrown? Craft with them! That s Companionship s answer! This month we ll be transforming old, worn out tee shirts into fun new items. Will your tee shirt become a pillowcase, a bag, or even jewelry? Who knows! We re going to let our creative juices flow! Remember, this class requires registration with payment no later than March 25th! See page 2 for registration information. $12/person for this session, (fee includes a tee shirt for crafting and all other supplies; you may bring additional tee shirts to use for crafting if you like) March 29 - Sensory Friendly Movie: Muppets Most Wanted (Rated PG) 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. AMC Loews Lakewood Towne Center 12 Theater 5721 Main Street SW, Lakewood It s show time! The Muppets are up to their crazy antics again, and we re headed to watch them in a safe and accepting environment. The lights are turned up a little and the sound is turned down. 10 April 3 - Flag Football Club: 1st Session 5:00-7:00 p.m. South Hill Park Corner of 86th Ave E & 144th St. South, Puyallup Have you ever wanted to try flag football but haven t had the opportunity or were too nervous to try? Wow, do we have the club for you! We ll learn the basics of football in a fun, positive, and encouraging environment. This club will meet weekly for 4 weeks. Each week we ll start with a skills session and end with a friendly game of flag football. Registration with payment by March 31st is required for this club. See page 2 for registration information. $20/person (fee includes all 4 sessions, t-shirt, individual photo, and team photo) April 10 - Flag Football Club: 2nd Session 5:00-7:00 p.m. South Hill Park Corner of 86th Ave E & 144th St. South, Puyallup Time to practice those skills we learned last week and learn some new ones! To participate in Companionship s Flag Football Club, you must have been registered by March 31st. April 11 - Monthly Swim Night 7:00-8:30 p.m. Clover Park High School Pool Gravelly Lake Drive, Lakewood Time to splash around with all of your Companionship friends at our monthly swim night! FREE April 12 - Pet Party 2:00-4:00 p.m. Frontier Park, Building #B Meridian South, Graham This party has gone to the dogs and cats, hamsters, parakeets, bunnies, and pet rocks! Companionship is throwing our first ever Pet Party. (Cont. next column) April Events We want to celebrate our best furry, scaly, and feathered friends. It s even okay if you want to bring a stuffed animal or your favorite pet rock. We like pets of all kinds here! We ll have crafts, games, a talent competition and more all designed for you and your pet. All pets (except stuffed animals and pet rocks) must be up to date on shots, on a leash or in a carrier, and be accustomed to crowds. Registration with payment is required for this event. Registration deadline is April 9th. See page 2 for registration information. $10/person (fee includes gift bag and photo) April 17 - Flag Football Club: 3rd Session 5:00-7:00 p.m. South Hill Park Corner of 86th Ave E & 144th St. South, Puyallup Time to practice those skills we learned last week and learn some new ones! This is picture night, so be sure to wear your club tee shirt and your best smile! To participate in Companionship s Flag Football Club, you must have been registered by March 31st. April 18 - Top Chef: Cookies Lakewood Community Center, Room # Lakewood Drive SW, Lakewood Cookies? Yes, cookies! We ll be making cookies of all kinds! We, here at Companionship, haven t met a cookie we didn t like, and we re ready to try some more! Come learn basic recipes and techniques for several types of cookies. Remember, this class requires registration with payment no later than April 15th!
