6 P a g e 6 A BIG March for Babies...Thank you! Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 2013 March for Babies Campaign. This year, almost $204,000 was raised throughout the Northland Division of the March of Dimes. Events were held in Bemidji, Duluth, Grand Rapids and Virginia and almost 1100 people attended these events! Team Alvar was the top Northland Division team and the top team in Minnesota. They also rank #21 in the Nation for fundraising! Our congratulations Team Alvar and Kelly and Nate! To date, Team Alvar has raised about $85,000 for the March of Dimes through their annual Yeti Tour event and team fundraising. Their efforts are in memory of their two sons, Isaiah and Mason, who passed away shortly after birth due to birth defects and prematurity. Today, the Alvars are blessed with two healthy sons, Jonas and Elias. The Alvars were joined by many of Kelly s co-workers at St. Luke s Hospital in Duluth. Led by Dr. Gary Peterson, St. Luke s had more than 70 people walking in the Duluth event! St. Luke s set the goal to raise more than they had ever before for March for Babies! Collectively, the five St. Luke s Teams raised $21,575! Fortune Bay Resort Casino led the way as the Division Sponsor and we want to recognize their Casino s Gift Shop Manager Polly Alexander as the top walker for the Virginia March for Babies event. Fairview Range led the way at the Virginia event with 94 people marching for healthy babies! Their seven teams led by Deb Boardman collectively raised $11,393 for the Virginia event! Maxine Gobel, from the Bergquist Company, were the TOP WALKER and TOP TEAM for the Grand Rapids event, with the team from Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital coming in second. In Bemidji, the top team was Marketplace Foods and Team Bella Boo was 41 members strong. Chris and Rachael Jaranson formed Team Bella Boo in memory of their daughter Bella who passed away from complications of birth defects in June You Have Made a Difference! Thank you to ALL walkers, teams and sponsors who made this year s March for Babies a success! The money you raised is helping babies in YOUR community. Today, every baby born has been touched by the March of Dimes! There is more work to do because one out of eight babies born, is born prematurely. However, now is the time to rest and re-charge for the 2014 March for Babies Campaign! We will continue our important effort so that all babies can have a healthy start to life.
