1 Forever Young Southaven s Senior Adult Group JANUARY JULY 2018 THE GOLDEN GRAPEVINE FEBRUARY AUGUST Santa s Nice Girls Ugly Sweater Winners Santa s Naughty Girls Our Christmas Luncheon was so much fun and captured the Christmas spirit. Santa showed up and even brought his cousin, Naughty Santa. Entertainment was provided by Michael Dougherty and our very own Forever Young performers, Stayin Alive. Our sponsor, SecurTrust Federal Credit Union, added to the Christmas cheer with games and awarded many wonderful prizes. Beautiful gift baskets from Dillard s were given to the winners of the ugly sweater contest, Gwen Haley and Randy Contrades. A huge thanks goes out to Winde for taking the time out of her schedule to come and take our pictures. Don t forget to stop by our office to pick up your pictures. Special thanks to Rebecca at Kroger/Getwell for our lovely poinsettias and to all of our volunteers. Mardi Gras Luncheon - Friday, February 16 at 11:00am Our Mardi Gras luncheon will be held in the Multi-Purpose room at Forever Young. The Mardi Gras theme will carry over to the Friday evening dance at 7pm. BankPlus will be our sponsor. Our caterer, John Woods, is serving Lasagna with all the trimmings. A Saxophone player is coming to entertain us with some jazz sounds out of New Orleans. There will be games and great door prizes. Get out your costumes, masks, and beads so you will be ready for our Best Dressed Contest. Tickets must be purchased at our office by Friday, February 9 (Cost $10). Sorry, we can no longer sell tickets the week of the luncheon. Limited seating, so don t put off getting your ticket. Bring your cameras to capture all your special memories.

2 Line Dance Classes for Beginners A new Beginners Line Dance Class will start on Monday, January 8 at 4:30pm and Thursday, January 11 at 9am. If you have never line danced before, this is the class for you. This is a great way to exercise your mind and body, while making new friends and having lots of fun. Forever Young s Friday Night Dance 7pm-9pm You don t want to miss our Friday night dances. We have so much fun. Terry McIlroy and Michael Dougherty are our DJ s, who play all different kinds of music. Something for everyone s taste. Come dance the night away in an alcohol and smoke free environment. $5 at the door. Bring your favorite snacks to share. Birthday celebrations, the first Friday each month. Cake and ice cream will be served. Water Color Classes Classes will be held on Mondays from 10:00am to noon in the Art Room. 3 MINDFULNESS MEDITATION GROUP Mindfulness meditation has so many proven benefits for health, mental well-being and mind power. Physically, it reduces risk of heart disease, helps prevent arthritis and fibromyalgia, improves our immune systems and energy levels, and adds to our longevity. Mentally, it improves focus, memory and creative thinking. Emotionally, meditation has been shown to lessen stress, fear, anxiety and depression. It improves mood and increases optimism. Join us in the Yoga Room at 9:45am every Wednesday starting January 3rd for an hour of mindful breathing and sitting. Chairs and some cushions will be provided, or you can bring your own. Debbie Burch, with years of experience in mindfulness meditation, will provide instruction for this class. Casino Day At Fitzgerald s Wednesday, March 21 Bus pick up at the Southaven Arena, 7360 Hwy 51 N. Southaven, MS at 10:30 Cost: $7 (cash only) includes bus, tip, free buffet and $10 free play. Tickets on sale at Forever Young. Get your tickets early, or you might miss your chance to go. Please park in front of the new storm shelter for bus pick up. Bus will reload at 3:30pm and arrive back at the Arena at 4pm. Due to gaming regulations, you MUST be on the bus upon arrival in order to receive buffet and free play. The next day we will embark on a breakfast cruise on scenic Lake Powell. Next on our trip, travel through Marble Canyon before arriving at the Grand Canyon. Then on to Bruce Canyon, Utah Zion National Park which we will view as we ride along on the Zion Tram. We will then head out to Salt Lake City and next to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Then on to Grand Tetons National Park. Later we arrive at Yellowstone National Park and Cody. Then off we go to Keystone, South Dakota where we will see one of the country s most famous landmark, Mount Rushmore. We will visit the Crazy Horse Monument before we depart for home.
