1 Bellevue Public Schools BPS Community News May 2017 Registration Process Swim Lessons **Attention** The Lied Activity Center will have registration periods for families to sign up for our 3-12 years old swim lesson program. You will be able to choose the time and date of the session when you register during the dates listed below. Early sign ups are encouraged to ensure your desired time. Payment is due at the time of registration. We offer Pre-school (3-4 years old only) and levels one through six at the Lied Activity Center. All of our swim instructors are American Red Cross certified lifeguards. 2 Aqua Tots / Children 6 36 months Have fun in the pool with mom and dad. For tots that are ready to explore the aqua environment. Skills, games and water safety activities are included. Swim diapers are required for those not potty trained. This stroke Clinic is designed for students who already have a solid foundation of the fundamentals of swimming and desire to learn more advanced swimming techniques. The classes put emphasis on proper technique over speed. Students will enhance their competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly) with drills taught by our experienced instructors. In order to participate, students must meet 2 of the 3 following criteria: Must be able to swim 50 yards freestyle with rotary breathing continuously, without assistance Must be currently or previously enrolled in Level 5 or 6 swimming lessons Must be 11+ years old

11 Bellevue West Girls Basketball Camp Date: May 30 June 2, 2017 Cost: $45 Location: BW South Gym Campers will receive T- Shirt and chances to win prizes Grades and Times: Students entering these grades, at Bellevue West HS, South Gym Grades 3-5: 8:00 9:30 am Grades 6-8: 10:00 11:30 am Grades 9-12: 12:30 2:00 pm Campers will receive instruction from the Bellevue West Girls Basketball Coaching Staff. We will focus on fundamentals and improving on both offensive and defensive skills. Grades 3-5: Focus on fundamentals, ball- handling (basic and advanced), proper shooting form, working on proper footwork with shooting and layups, passing (both stationary and moving), working on moving w/o the ball, and defensive fundamentals. Grades 6-8: Continue to develop and expand on fundamentals. Ball- handling, both 1 and 2 ball drills, dribble drive moves, passing drills, shooting drills, screening, defensive fundamentals, and 3 on 3 games. Grades 9-12: We will be working on skills and sets to get us ready for our summer leagues and camps. We will focus on offensive and defensive sets, and skill work. 16 2017 Bellevue East Chieftain Summer Swimming Clinic/Training Camp only for students attending Bellevue East High School next year. Sessions will be conducted by the Bellevue East Head Swimming Coach with support from current team members and coaching staff. Prerequisites: No competitive swimming required although you must be able to swim one length of the pool doing freestyle or backstroke. These swim clinics are NOT beginning swimming lessons, but are designed to learn and/or perfect stroke technique, learn and/or perfect turns, starts, and finishes, and to introduce the other skills necessary to compete on a varsity level. One piece swimming suits and goggles are required. THERE IS NO COST TO PARTICIPATE OTHER THAN THE TIME COMMITMENT TO ATTEND. 24 Bellevue West Little T-Bird Cheerleading Clinic We are now accepting registration for the Little T-Bird Cheerleading Clinic, which will be on Thursday, September 14th, 2017 from 4:30-6:30pm at Bellevue West High School. This is a fun afternoon for elementary students to learn about cheerleading and to cheer on the Thunderbirds. All participants will receive the opportunity to cheer on the sidelines for the first half of the Bellevue West Homecoming Football Game that evening beginning at 6:30pm and lasting until the end of the first half. The cost is $30 per cheerleader and includes the cheer clinic and football game, a t-shirt, a pair of pom poms, drink, and a slice of pizza.
