Introduction Quarter 3 (October December 2014) has been a very successful quarter, some key highlights include: October half term holiday activities New bookings Centres in Bloom Increased SCL sessions Halloween themed parties Christmas events Session promotions Partnership working Centre improvements

Beesley Green Community Centre Activities/events Three new groups have started at the centre, a mother and baby yoga and a pregnancy yoga group. Also Slimming World will start on Tuesdays in January. The centre was host to its second Holistic Event in October. It was very well attended and looks like becoming a regular part of the Beesley calendar. Boogie Tots held a Halloween party, playing games and dancing to scary music. Peppa Pig made a special appearance. An engagement party was held on 1 st November. It was a lavish event that saw the centre transformed. Worsley Intimate Theatre Company rehearsed their latest production (three complete episodes of Faulty Towers) in the small hall. During December several groups enjoyed Christmas celebrations at the centre including choir and kurling. 26 parties took place at the centre with over 1,900 adults and children attending. 3 SCL sessions took place: Fun Community Tots, Health Hips and Hearts and Salford Leisurely Singers. have decreased slightly this quarter due to the loss of two long term groups, there has been a lot of interest in the free spaces and one has been filled. It is hoped that more new bookings will come in the New Year. Boothstown Community Centre The centre once again received a 5 star rating from the Food Standards Agency. Leigh Art group held an exhibition of their work on Saturday 6 th December; visitors were able to view and purchase the artwork. The exhibition was a great success. A number of art lovers visited the centre and several exhibits were purchased on the day. Boothstown Local History Group will finish at the end of the year due to a lack of volunteers. This group has been running a monthly Wednesday evening meeting for over 30 years at the centre. Several parties have been booked at the centre including Halloween and Disney Frozen themed parties. December Christmas Celebrations Volunteers from the Luncheon Club cooked a Christmas dinner, which everyone enjoyed. The meal was followed by St Andrew s School choir singing carols. The local Churches Together Carol Service was held at the centre. Over 130 Adults and 40 children joined the annual service held outside the centre under the band stand, with carols from the Ellenbrook and Boothstown Brass Band. After the service everyone was invited to come into the centre for drinks and mince pies. There was also a special visit from Father Christmas. 56 pensioners sat down to a hot cooked Christmas dinner cooked by the Café 55 volunteers. Father Christmas and his little helper attended with presents for everyone. This was followed with a sing-a-long and local funny memories sung by a local entertainer. Tiny Tots and the Kurlers group both enjoyed Christmas parties at the centre. Caterers were hired to serve the over 60s club a special Christmas dinner, followed by entertainment from a singer. A presentation

was given for Maureen who has run the club for many years, followed by a raffle where everyone received a gift; everyone had a wonderful afternoon. Mini Maestros had their Christmas party with the group s 3 sessions all rolled into one. Father Christmas arrived with surprises for the children and they had plenty of Christmas songs to sing along too; even mums and dads enjoyed themselves. The last party for the year was childminders, they had a festive feast for the children, playing games and singing songs; a good time was had by all. One off events The Guides and Scouts held a Sound of Music fundraising event at the centre on Saturday 4 th October, in which 43 people attended. The evening was a great success. Most people dressed up in different costumes from the film and sang all of the songs in the film. The uniformed groups raised over 200 which will go towards their summer camp next year to Austria. at the centre have decreased slightly on last year s quarter 3 due to 2 groups having an extended festive break and the loss of the local history group. Clifton Community Centre Slimming World have had several new members. Lets All Join Hands have had Halloween and Christmas parties, all involved enjoyed refreshments and the children were excited when Father Christmas called in. Salford Bridge Club is a very friendly and popular club with a strong membership. Since their return, The Clifton Group have gained new members who have enjoyed meeting people and playing games. Table tennis and bingo are very popular at the moment. The group held their Christmas party and buffet in the centre and was enjoyed by everyone. To help increase numbers the group is now an open session and not join by referral only. Cheerleading, drama and street dance is still very popular. On the last session before Christmas the group staged a performance of Frozen for the parents and guardians. Art Group has no tutor at the moment but have been very busy sharing all their different ideas, skills and talents with each other. Mother and toddlers have had several new members join the group. In December they had their Christmas party, which was very well attended with lots of food and party games, they also had a session of boogie tots which the children enjoyed. have decreased by 5% compared to quarter 3 last year, this could be due to groups having longer breaks at Christmas. Guild Hall Community Centre City West held a consultation day on the 6 th October at the centre. This was to discuss demolishing the old building of local gardens and re-building a brand new structure, which will take approximately 20 months. Several people have been to look

at the artist impressions displayed for the community at Guild Hall. Staff have received an from City West who reported that it was a very successful event with a lot of feedback from local residents. Kerris held a swishing party (clothes swapping) on 21 st October. This is her first event at Guild Hall. Playtime Playgroup finished on the 24 th October for half term and the children and staff dressed up for Halloween. The children s costumes included witches, vampires and pumpkins. They had prizes for best girl and best boy costume on the day, judged by the Community Centre Supervisor. On 31 st October the Holiday Club children came dressed in Halloween costumes. The day consisted of face painting, bobbing for apples and ended with a Halloween DVD. SCL Dance held a Halloween Disco. The hall was beautifully decorated. The teachers were dressed up as well as all the children that attended. There were three birthday parties during November. The first one had a disco and games. The second party saw everybody turn up in fancy dress even parents and grandparents. The third party held a disco with entertainment from Mickey Mouse and Spongebob Squarepants. All parties were well attended and everybody enjoyed themselves; hopefully word of mouth will lead to further bookings in On 17 th December, Women s Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS) extended their time to hold their Christmas meal with bingo and dominoes for the over 60 s luncheon club. Since this has been funded by another source the meals have improved immensely and the people who attend thoroughly enjoy them. Playtime/Playgroup had their Christmas carol concert in December for all the parents to come and enjoy with drinks and mince pies afterwards. The attendance was very good; 40 parents and 8 children. They also held a Christmas Party on the 19th; Father Christmas came to see all the children. SCL Dance had a festive concert/show for the children to showcase their talent and hard work from 2014 in front of their parents/guardians. Again there was a very good attendance, 40 parents and 10 children. Over 50 s keep fit held a Macmillan coffee morning with raffle prizes, tea, coffee and cakes to buy. There was a fantastic turn out with lots of cakes and raffle prizes. Everyone enjoyed themselves and 211 was raised for Macmillan. Pulmonary Rehab sessions run by SCL have received funding for a further three years. Walkden Christian Group will not be renewing their Thursday evening at Guild Hall due to moving to a larger room at Walkden Gateway. Aikido will not be renewing their session in 2015 due to lack of interest. Worsley Horticultural Society booked their annual meeting on 25 th November Always clean and tidy, inside and out decreased by 4% this quarter due to the loss of the Walkden Christian Group on Thursday nights.

Rainbow Rooms Community Centre The children s holiday club was in for one week at the end of October; they made Halloween decorations, cakes and also carved pumpkins for the Halloween party as well as helping to decorate the centre for the party. The Halloween party was a great success, the children came in costumes and joined in the games and danced all afternoon courtesy of a local DJ. The Health Improvement Team carried out free health checks during November. The children from the disabled dance class did their dance exam The centre held its annual Christmas fair on 6 th December. The Irish dancers came and performed a dance display, the children from the street dance group sang Let it go from the Disney film Frozen in sign language. The hall was decorated in silver, blue and white to give it the effect of ice to follow on with the frozen theme. The event had a good turnout with lots of festive stalls and the Christmas café was back to provide refreshments. At the end of the afternoon the star of the show made his appearance in his festive fire engine. One off events include Cascade Christmas party and Here and Now Christmas party. The attendances at Rainbow have remained the same as in quarter 3 last year due to the programme remaining stable. The Valley Community Centre This quarter s focus was on the Arts & Crafts Group. This friendly and welcoming group have been regulars every Thursday morning for around twenty years. They started out with only three members and have now grown to having on average 15 members each session. Several attendees have learning difficulties and take great pleasure in being taught how to make new things. The group make a variety of items, such as greeting cards, jewellery, patchwork quilts, paintings, etc. All of which are sold at craft fairs with funds going either to a nominated charity or to help fund the group. Last year the group collect and filled boxes for Help The Heroes. At present one member is making baby hats for the premature baby unit in Bolton Hospital. The group go on regular trips out, their latest being to St Anne s where they enjoyed shopping and lunch. They are looking forward to their Christmas Meal at The Red Lion in Swinton. Activities/events Sadly the Slimming World Group are leaving The Valley and relocating to another venue. They have enjoyed their time at the centre but due to the lack of new members joining they want a location with a prominent position for advertising. Swinton Child Minders held a Christmas party at The Valley with all the children enjoying games, a buffet and receiving a present. Payback Team located themselves at The Valley for a couple of days during December. They cut back overgrown shrubs/trees and tidied the outside area. The full Centre Supervisors meeting was held at The Valley and is possibly one of best attended meetings of this type to be held. The community centre has seen an increase in attendances due to a number of one off bookings and events such as team meetings and the Payback Team. Wardley Community Centre Activities/events Healthy Hearts and Hips is continuing to be popular with the ladies enjoying gentle exercise. The floral artistry class is going

strong with the ladies producing some lovely flower displays. Salford Community Leisure held holiday club activities at the centre during October half term. The children enjoyed games and art and craft. Friends of Wardley Park held a craft fair at the centre on the 18 th October with lots of stalls selling some excellent art and craft merchandise. Due to the success of the craft fair, Friends of Wardley Park held a Santa s Grotto in conjunction with City West. It was very well attended by the local community with lots of children visiting Santa and receiving a gift. Kurling is still very busy with the group having enjoyed some trips out. They went to see the Houghton Weavers at Rivington Barn and had a Christmas party with a buffet and line dancing to finish the afternoon off. Wardley Concert Band held a Christmas carol evening at the centre on 10 th December. The band played some traditional carols and some well loved Christmas songs. Refreshments of tea and mince pies were served and a raffle was held in the interval. Everyone had a really good evening with the proceeds going to charity. Eye Eye Friendly Group have some new members so have increased their numbers they have also increased their session time to 2 ½ hours. They enjoyed a lovely Christmas party with Christmas goodies. T.V Talent Group is still busy rehearsing Shrek the musical which they will perform in January before friends and family. paid a visit and all the children received a present. This quarter has seen a decrease in comparison to last year as last quarter playgroup were in 3 times per week. Westwood Park Community Centre The disability group have left due to the building works ongoing on the site, the works were posing accessibility problems for the disability dance as a result they have relocated to neighbouring centre Beesley Green. Partnership working with City West has managed to ensure the community centre and their project run together smoothly. There is plenty of local support for the community centre and staff still get lots of enquiries from customers wanting to use the facilities at the centre. City West used the community centre as background for their work in the area. Henshaws are only attending every other week due to lack of funding for transport. have decreased significantly due to the loss of several groups throughout the past year. Unfortunately most of the groups relied upon funding that is no longer available. Art Club is very well attended producing some really good pieces of art work which are on display in the centre. Parent and toddler group held a Christmas party for everyone where parents enjoyed a buffet and the children had party food. Santa
