This should be a fun and educational day out for our Years 1 to 6 students and their support team. FETE / OKTOBERFEST 24th October Thanks to those who attended the P & C meeting at the end of last term, joining discussions about event planning. This is expected to be a great social event. Stalls at the fete will be located under the secondary covered area and the Oktoberfest celebration section will be near the library. The Rides & Slides will be located in the car park area. Rides will cost $5 each on the night or unlimited ride tickets are available from the school office until 23rd October at $27 or at the fete for $32. There will be a variety of food available including hot chips, barbecue, desserts and a German meal. If you are available to assist with catering, please call Ros Kugel at work Plans and preparations are well in hand but assistance would be appreciated. Classes will be running fundraising stalls as part of the fete. Donations towards stalls would be welcomed. A new (never before tried) stall will be the toy exchange. This receives donations of good quality pre-loved toys for sale to keen buyers. If your toy cupboard or book shelf is overflowing, please send in appropriate stock for this stall. Donations of pot plants or suitable prizes for the multi-draw raffle, cent sale table or craft stall would also be great. There will also be a cake stall for those who wish to cook and donate to or purchase from. There will be more activities and entertainment at the fete and we look forward to community participation. PHILMAC PROJECT The school is entered in an online competition for grant funding through the Philmac Project. Please go on-line at entry/ and like our project to assist towards our possible funding. Trace amounts of asbestos have been detected in some brands of children s crayons that have been imported into Australia. The crayon products in which asbestos has been identified are as follows: Dora the Explorer personalised 32 pack crayons Dora the Explorer jumbo crayons Arti Crafti 16 piece crayons Peppa Pig 8 wax crayons Disney Frozen jumbo crayons Disney Mickey Mouse and Friends crayons VERY LOW RISK OF EXPOSURE TO ASBESTOS FIBRES The traces of asbestos that have been detected in the crayons are fully bound in the crayon wax. Studies have shown that as a result, asbestos fibres would not be released during normal use or as a result of ingestion. This is because the melting point of crayon wax is well above body temperature. Accordingly, these goods are considered to pose a very low risk to humans. Despite the low risk, the Australian Government as well as State and Territory Governments are taking a precautionary and coordinated approach to this incident, through the HWSA Imported Materials with Asbestos Working Group. If you are concerned you have purchased the affected crayons, you can return them to the place of purchase for a refund or replacement. In line with good practice procedures in handling asbestos containing materials, it is recommended that the crayons be placed in a plastic bag, such as a zip lock bag or in the original packaging if possible, for return. Personal Protective Equipment is not required to be worn. If not returned to your supplier, affected products should be taken to an asbestos disposal facility. Your nearest asbestos disposal facility can be located using the online tool on the Asbestos Safety and Eradication Agency (ASEA) website: search-disposal-facilities

There is a certain mystique about talented athletes, and we recognise it is not an easy path to elite success with few achieving their dream. However, the role you play as a coach for all athletes, particularly young athletes, will not only contribute to their overall development but more importantly their desire to maintain an active, healthy lifestyle throughout life. The goals should be to encourage healthy activity for inactive kids, teach life skills, develop a long- term enjoyment of sport and give naturally gifted athletes the tools that will help them perform at an elite level. Kids who are streamlined into a single sport early in life are robbed of more varied experiences critical to developing overall athleticism. A lower athletic base ultimately limits their sport-specific improvement potential and can lead to burnout. The focus should be on helping young athletes develop skills they will draw on at an older age when they are actually ready to capitalise on sport specialisation. This workshop will explore all the challenges today s coach faces when working with young athletes. Presenter : Chris Weier, Fitnance Cost: All workshops are free - bookings are essential Like us on Mundubbera State P10 to get the latest up to date information and news from the school.
