Ed Thompson August 1, 2016 Dear Supporter of Pearland ISD Students, and Teachers: On behalf of, I am writing to encourage you to become a sponsor of our third annual Grown-Up Spelling Bee. The grown-up spelling bee is a zany version of the traditional spelling bee. Teams of three adults collaborate on spelling words and compete for the coveted title of Best Spellers in Pearland. The event will be held on Thursday, October 20 at Turner College and Career High School from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Last year s event was a great success, generating more than $40,000 for the Foundation. Funds raised through the spelling bee support our mission to enrich teaching and inspire learning for students and teachers in Pearland ISD. This past spring, we funded 52 Innovative Teaching Grant projects totaling more than $88,000. The enclosed photos provide a small glimpse of the excitement generated by the spelling bee and our grant program. We are seeking local businesses and community leaders to sponsor their own teams or to sponsor a team of Pearland ISD employees. Other fun options include sponsoring a letter of the alphabet or a challenging spelling word to be read during the competition. The benefits of sponsorship are summarized in the attached flyer. We also welcome donated items for our silent auction. We are a 501(c)(3) organization and all donations are tax deductible. We hope to have your support for this worthy and fun cause. WHEN Thursday, October 20, 7 p.m. WHERE Turner College and Career High School Auditorium 4717 Bailey Road WHAT IS THE GROWN-UP SPELLING BEE? This is a fun team event to benefit, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that enriches teaching and inspires learning in Pearland ISD. The event includes team dinner, silent auction, and guest photo booth. HOW DOES THE BEE WORK? Teams of three adults work together to spell words and compete for the coveted title of Best Spellers in Pearland. Teams facing elimination can continue the fun by buying a spell check or stinging another team by passing a difficult word. Teams are invited to wear costumes -- the more creative, the better! A buzzing hive of spectators will vote for the best team costumes and the top team wins a prize. WHY SUPPORT THE GROWN-UP SPELLING BEE? The spelling bee directly benefits Pearland ISD students and teachers. Money raised will support innovative educational programs and activities that fall outside Pearland ISD s operating budget. 3 GROWN-UPspelling bee 2016 Sponsorship Opportunities TEAM LEVELS OF SUPPORT QUEEN BEE $5,000 (Lead Event Underwriter) Includes 3-person team, pre-event dinner, 4 free guest passes, logo prominently displayed on all advertising and event material, recognition as lead underwriter, and logo on website HONEY BEE $2,500 (Lead Sponsor) Includes 3-person team, pre-event dinner, 3 free guest passes, logo displayed on all advertising and event material BUSY BEE $1,000 (Event Sponsor) Includes 3-person team, pre-event dinner, 3 free guest passes, and name on all advertising and event material WORKER BEE $500 (Team Only - Limited Number Available) Includes 3-person team, pre-event dinner, and name on all advertising and event material Sponsors may present their own team or fund a team of Pearland ISD employees.
