I dedicate this book to my Mom and Dad. Thank you for helping me in school and with studying for tests. I could not be here without you guys. Fight on! - Ryan Copyright 2016 Twenty One Publishing. All Rights Reserved. i

CHAPTER 1 Ally Actalot Ding, ding, ding, went Ally s alarm clock. Ally got ready for school as fast as she could and bolted out the door as fast as a racecar winning a race. Ally was so excited to see if she got the lead part in the coolest play her school had ever done, Romeo and Juliet! The auditions were a few days ago, and Ally could hardly think about anything but them recently. When Ally got to the school bulletin board, she was so delirious that she almost screamed, Oh no! Why am I an understudy?!? Britney Bucks probably won t get hurt or sick! No one will ever know that I am even in this play! When it was morning recess, Ally barked to her friends, Why do I need to be the understudy? Why can t Britney be the understudy? Ally s friends Izzy and Billy looked at each other. I m sorry Ally, I thought you did great at the tryouts, Billy responded. Don t you mean we? Izzy added, elbowing Billy in his ribs. That s what I meant, Billy replied as they walked to their 3rd period class. As Ally was about to walk into her math classroom, Ally s little sister Amy walked right to her. Hey Ally! shouted Amy. What do you want, Amy? Ally whispered. I want nothing, but I wanted to ask you if you got the leading roll for the play that you are doing. Amy asked. I don t want to talk about it right now! Ally replied indignantly. Oh, come on. Please, please, please! 2

Fine, I ll tell you. I am the understudy! shouted Ally as tears filled her eyes. 3

CHAPTER 2 The Missing Script When Ally s last period for the day let out it was time for Ally to head back home. When Ally got home she headed up to her room crying and when she got up to her room she closed the door as hard as she could. When Mrs. Actalot heard the vociferous slamming of the door, she headed upstairs. What s wrong dear? asked Mrs. Acatlot. I m the understudy in the school play, mom. I thought I did so well at the audition Ally exclaimed. I bet you did great at the tryouts, Ally! Mrs. Actalot replied. Why don t you go downstairs and spend some time with your little sister? asked Mrs. Acatlot. Okay Mom, Ally replied. After a few completed puzzles and a tea party with Ally s little sister, Ally s mother reminded, Ally, can you go practice you lines just in case you need to go on stage for Britney? Sure. Ally replied. When Ally got upstairs she remembered that she forgot her script in Mrs. Sweet s math class. What am I going to do now? Ally thought to herself. The play begins tomorrow soon and I haven t learned any of my lines yet! 4

CHAPTER 3 Asking Britney When Ally got to school the next day she went to the theater teacher Mr. Nutty s office to see if he had another copy of the script. Hey, Mr. Nutty. How are you? asked Ally. Good, how are you Ally? responded Mr. Nutty. I m fine. I have a question for you. What is it, Ally? inquired Mr. Nutty. Well, I left my script in Mrs. Sweet s Class so I came here to ask you if you have another copy that I can borrow. No, I don t have another copy but you can ask Britney to borrow hers to copy, replied Mr. Nutty. After all, you two have the same part in the play. Do I need to ask her? asked Ally, despondently. Do you want another copy? Mr. Nutty bellowed. I guess. Okay then, bye now. Bye! shouted Ally as she walked to homeroom. When Ally got to her homeroom she went over to see if Britney was at her seat and she was, but she was talking to her friends about makeup, the mall, and of course about herself. There s Britney over there, whispered Ally to herself taking a big gulp. I m going to ask her if I can borrow her script to copy it. Hey Britney. How are you? asked Ally. I m good I guess, thank you for asking. Britney replied. Do you mind if I borrow your script? inquired Ally. No, I do not mind but I need it back by the end of the day, replied 5

Britney. Okay, thank you Britney! barked Ally. 6

CHAPTER 4 It s Show Time! On the night of the play, Ally was flabbergasted that the four weeks had gone by so fast. Ally was a little nervous; so anxious she was about to burst. Um, Ally can I talk to you for a minute? Mr. Nutty called out from the end of the hall. Ally ran as fast as a cheetah to reach the end for the hallway. What s up Mr. Nutty? asked Ally. I have some good news and some bad news. What do you want to hear first? Mr. Nutty inquired. I guess the good news, Ally replied. Okay, the good news is that you get to perform in the play today in our show! And the bad news? asked Ally. The bad news is that Britney is sick, responded Mr. Nutty. Okay I ll go get dressed in the dressing room. You do that. And just a heads up you have an hour to get ready. After that hour Mr. Nutty called over on the loud speaker, It s show time! All of the kids and their friends and family got in their seats while the kids backstage got in there places for the opening act. Welcome friends and family to Romeo and Juliet, said Mr. Nutty. Please turn off all of your phones. There is to be no talking while the play is going on and on top of all of that please have fun! Enjoy the show! James, please open the curtain, announced Mr. Nutty. Okay Mr. Nutty, whispered James. When Ally started to walk on the stage she began to think to herself that when she sees a play it looks easy 7

acting up there but when she saw her family and friends watching her in the audience she started to scream. I can t do it! yelled Ally as she ran off the stage. I ll go see if she is okay, Mrs. Actalot told Mr. Actalot. Hey Ally are you okay? asked Mrs. Actalot as she arrived backstage. I guess I m okay but I just got frightened when I saw everyone looking at me, Ally replied. I know that felling. Just go out there and have fun, okay? Okay! Thanks, Mom! Ally replied. Go out there and show them what you got! And that is just what Ally did. 8

CHAPTER 5 The Big Fight When Ally was driving home from the play with her family she saw a car that looked very nice. Hey Mom, that looks like Mrs. Bucks car, shouted Ally. Who is Mrs. Bucks? asked Mrs. Actalot. Mrs. Bucks is Britney s mom! Ally said. It looks like she is eating popcorn? Mrs. Actalot told Ally. It sure does Mom, it sure does. On the way to school the next morning Ally had to talk to Britney. Hey Britney, how are you? asked Ally. I m a little sick so I would stay away, Britney bellowed. Okay? But first I need to ask you a question, Ally told Britney. Where were you yesterday? I was at home, sick. Britney replied. I don t think you were sick. I think you were out seeing a movie! shouted Ally. How do you know that?!? asked Britney, flabbergasted. I saw you eating popcorn in your mom s car and holding a movie ticket! shouted Ally one last time. Fine, you got me! hollered Britney. Why on earth did you not want to be in the play last night? Ally asked. I am really nervous about going on stage in front of a lot of people. I think I have stage fright, Britney whispered so nobody else would hear. I thought I could handle it but I guess I was wrong. The next day Mr. Nutty called Britney out into the hallway of her math class. Hi Britney, how are you? asked Mr. Nutty. 9

Oh, I m good. How are you? Britney said with a worried face. Good, good. I have a question for you. Mr. Nutty told Britney. What is that? Where were you yesterday? You missed opening night of the play. I was sick, Britney told Mr. Nutty. No she wasn t sick Mr. Nutty! screamed Ally barging out the classroom door and into the hallway. Britney, shouted Mr. Nutty. Come into my office!" 10

CHAPTER 6 Mr. Nutty s Office Ally went inside Mr. Nutty s office. She was shaking like a leaf. Do you know why you are here? asked Mr. Nutty as soon as they got inside. No, I don t know. You are here because I needed to talk to you about Britney. Oh, okay. Can you tell me what happened? asked Mr. Nutty Sure, said Ally. Yesterday I was walking home from the play and I saw her eating popcorn. So this morning I went to go find Britney. When I found her I said, I saw you eating popcorn in your mom s car and it looked like you just went to the movies. She denied it at first but then admitted to doing it. Okay, Ally. Thank you very much for that. You may go back to class now, Mr. Nutty responded. Bye, Mr. Nutty. Have a good rest of your day. The next day Ally went to Britney s house after school. Bang, bang, bang went Britney s door. Hello? Mrs. Bucks answered. Hi, I m Ally Actalot, I m here to talk to Britney. I m not here! shouted Britney from the top of the staircase. Oh, I m sorry dear. Britney is not here, Mrs. Bucks said to Ally. Bang, the door was slammed shut. What is wrong with her family? Ally asked herself. 11

CHAPTER 7 Can I Talk To Ally? The next day Ally tried again to talk to Britney. Hey Britney! Ally shouted from the end of the hall. What do you want, Ally? I want to help you get over your stage fright and I have a question for you, Ally told Britney. Of course you do. What is your question? inquired Britney. When I was over yesterday why did you say that you weren t there? I did not say that! shouted Britney. Yes, you did! bellowed Ally. No, I did not! yelled Britney. Ally and Britney went on like that for about 10 more seconds. Ally became so livid she just left, forgetting her promise to help Britney overcome her fear. Hi Ally! shouted Billy and Izzy. Hey Billy, hey Izzy. Izzy and I saw you fighting with Britney about 20 seconds ago. Oh? Ally replied. What were you fighting about? asked Billy. I don t really want to talk about, Ally replied. Oh, okay. Well we need to go to our last period, math, replied Billy. 12

CHAPTER 8 The Ending Knock, knock went Ally s front door. Hey Mrs. Actalot, how are you? asked Britney. I m good, how are you? Good. Can I talk to Ally? exclaimed Britney. Ally can you please come downstairs! shouted Mrs. Actalot. One second mom! yelled Ally from upstairs. Hey mom what do you need. What is Britney doing here? Ally whispered to her mom. Why don t you ask her? Hi Britney. Hi, I wanted to say that I was sorry about today, Britney told Ally. It s okay. Friends? asked Ally. Friends! When Ally got to school the next day Ally had to go to Mr. Nutty s office with Britney. When she got near Mr. Nutty s office she saw her mom and dad. Mom, Dad what are you guys doing her? asked Ally. We re here to see your little sister Amy. She is putting on a play today. Oh right, can I come and see it after I leave Mr. Nutty s office? asked Ally. Okay, you can also bring a friend with you. Great, I know just who to bring. After Ally and Britney got out of Mr. Nutty s office Ally invited Britney to watch Amy s play and she said yes. When the play was over, Ally asked, So Britney, can I help you get over your stage fright? We have another performance in six days. 13

That would be great! Britney responded enthusiastically. The two girls put their arms around each other and walked back to Ally s house together. 14
