1 EBENEZER August 2015 Dear Staff and Pupils of Rhenish Primary School A Thank-you from The Bookery On behalf of The Bookery I would like to thank Rhenish Primary School for your generous donation of 651 books which will be used to establish new libraries in schools in the Stellenbosch area. Each year The Bookery continues to advance its mission of bringing the school library to life by establishing libraries that are at the centre of school life. Your commitment to helping The Bookery to achieve this is sincerely appreciated. Please take a look at our Facebook site as a public thank you. We look forward to continued support from Rhenish Primary, in order that we can achieve our goal of creating functional libraries in schools across South Africa. As part of their community outreach project, two Paul Roos boys, Liam Farrell and Dillon Kok, both in Grade 10, spent ten hours at The Bookery, at the end of last term, cataloguing the books, creating spine labels and then bar-coding the 651 books received from Rhenish Primary. 2 This past weekend, three Rhenish Primary children competed in the regional Gymnastics competition on Cape Town. Jean-Jac Du Toit (Gr 5B) Level 2 - U11 MAG won a silver medal for Artistic Gymnastics. He also made the City of Cape Town team for Tumbling and Double Mini gymnastics. Leah Gordon (Gr 1B) Level 1 - U6 WAG won a gold medal for Artistic Gymnastics with a total score of and was placed 4th overall in the Cape Winelands District. Liam Gordon (Gr 4W) Level 1-8-9years MAG won a bronze medal for Artistic Gymnastics with a total score of All three will be representing their district at the South Zone Gymnastics Championships in Oudtshoorn at the end of August. Some of the Gr.7s chose an interesting topic to explore The idea is The Third Eye tells about things that might go unnoticed and are improbable or impossible to see with regular eyesight. The Third Eye knows what is really happening!!! Oops! The third eye notices The third eye notices everything. The third eye knows that you aren t infallible. The third eye notices when you were meant to do your homework but copied your friend s instead. The third eye knows when you shove your folded laundry into your closet when your mother told you to hang it up. The third eye notices everything. Jessie Dixon Real Eyes The third eye sees when you hit your brother then hug him so that you don t get into trouble. The third eye sees when you don t do your homework and only do it the next morning at school. The Third Eye Nothing gets past the third eye constantly watching our elaborate world. It knows where the president puts his money after pay day. It knows which question you copied in a test. You can t hide anything. Nothing gets past the third eye. The third eye sees when you sneak out the house and don t get caught by your dad. The third eye sees when you break your mom s favourite vase and say it was the dog that bumped the table. 4 CONGRATULATIONS... Gabriella and Andrea Schöfmann, took part in Die Burger MTB Challenge. Gabriella (Grade 4G) came 3 rd in the nippers girls category for the 15km, and Andrea (Grade 6B) came 4 th in the sprog girls category for the 15km. Well done girls! CHESS We played a match against Ikaya Primary at Ikaya on Friday 31 July. We won 4-2 and the following players must be congratulated on winning their games: Alexander van der Merwe, Cameron Lochner, Jaimi le Roux, Faten Saoud and Jassem Saoud (friendly game). Well done! Marietjie Vink REMINDER : COMMUNITY CARE PROJECT LEGACY COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT 11 August 14 August This week the Grade 1s will be collecting for the Legacy Community Development. Please send peanut butter, oil, tinned fish, baked beans, jam, soap and toothpaste. Thank you. RHENISH HISTORY CORNER (Series no.53) A momentous occasion calls for special focus. The Great Move In August 1984, Miss Rosayle van Dÿk brought her staff of eleven teachers and one secretary to the new Doornbosch premises. A procession, led by two Std 5 (Gr.7) girls carrying the Rhenish Primary banner (now hanging in the Library), wound its way around the Braak and through town, making its way to the new school. Each person carried something from the old school to the new, whether it was a piece of chalk or a book. The secretary, Mrs Betty Rynhoud (Jacobs) carried the Admissions Register. It was a joyous, yet emotionally-charged event. (Note that the girls wore grey socks!)
