1 The Perpetrator in the Prep Closet The Crime: For the past two months, Mrs. Oshinski and Mr. Rumpf, 7th grade science teachers at Highland Middle School, have been combining their science knowledge to create a new formula for a health shake. They believe it will revolutionize the fitness industry by incorporating protein for strength building and ingredients like Vitamin C for immunity. Using Mr. Rumpf s knowledge of food research that he gained while working at Gatorade, with Mrs. Oshinski s experience as a personal trainer, they believe this new shake will bring in millions. Mrs. Oshinski offered free training sessions to teachers at Highland, and as part of the program, each teacher was given a one month supply of the health shake. On Friday night, Mrs. Oshinski stayed late to finish grading papers and then do some further work on the recipe. Mr. Rumpf was also still at Highland, holding volleyball practice. Around 5:30 PM, an intruder, disguised in a black mask, snuck into the prep closet. Mr. Rumpf was suffering from digestive problems and ran back to his room to get medicine. The surprised intruder attacked Mr. Rumpf, causing him to hit head on the lab table. Mr. Rumpf fought back against the intruder and tried to grab the mask off of his/her head. Mrs. Oshinski, heading back toward the prep closet to clean up, heard the scuffle, and rushed in, hitting the intruder with a kettle bell. The intruder managed to get past them both, and ran out the prep door and out the nearby exit. There was a note left behind with a phone number written on it. After stopping the bleeding on Mr. Rumpf s head, they rushed to the office to contact administration, who then called the Libertyville police. The police immediately began searching the premises and gathered the following evidence. The Evidence: Evidence gathered at the scene includes: 1. Fingerprints found at the scene 2. Blood spatter from the prep room into the hallway different material residues found at the crime scene. 4. Hair and fibers found at the crime scene. 5. The chromatography from the paper with the phone number. 6. Physical evidence found at the crime scene.
2 After questioning several witnesses, the police narrowed down their investigation to the five key suspects. The Suspects: 1. Mr. Cholipski - The dean at Highland, Mr. Cholipski is a sports enthusiast. He was part of the twice a week training group, and the protein drink trial group. He felt that he was entitled to be one of the owners of the protein recipe because he allowed the testing to happen here at Highland. He is 5 9, has brown hair, and hazel eyes. Mr. Cholipski has been remodeling his new home with drywall and has a pet dog named Fred. He often wears dress clothes and a tie. 2. Mr. Liu - The 8th grade chemistry and physics eacher, Mr. Liu, wanted to be part of the research team because he knew that Mrs. Oshinski and Mr. Rumpf were on the right track. They did not accept his offer of assistance and he had been harassing them ever since then. He also did not appreciate being told he was scrawny and would benefit from Mr. Rumpf s training group. He is 5 8 tall, has dark brown hair, and dark brown eyes. Mr. Liu is known to frequent fast food restaurants and orders a gyro with potato chips. He often wears jeans and dress shirt. 3. Mrs. Prochaska - Mrs. Oshinski coerced Mrs. Prochaska, an LA/LIT teacher, to be part of Mr. Rumpf s training group. A non-athlete, Mrs. Prochaska completed the first training session of 100 pushups, and she could not lift her arms over head. She also hated the taste of the health drink, preferring plates full of pasta and bread with olive oil. She has been taking a lot of Vitamin C to try to stay healthy this year. She is 5 5, has brown hair and brown eyes. Mrs. Prochaska often wears sweaters and dress pants. 4. Charlie Snodgrass - Lead researcher at Gatorade, he had visited Mr. Rumpf on Wednesday to meet about purchasing the recipe. He did not seem happy about the price that Mr. Rumpf set. Also, when Mr. Rumpf worked at Gatorade, he got into an argument with Charlie about which team was better, the Cubs or the Cardinals. He may still be nursing his resentment. He is 5 2 and has blond hair. He lives on heavily sugared coffee and muffins from Starbucks. He wore a suit and tie to the last meeting. 5. Mrs. Mitchell - Another LA/LIT teacher, Mrs. Mitchell was also coerced into being part of Mr. Rumpf s training group, but she loved it! However, Mrs. Mitchell was overly enthusiastic about the whole deal and started doing 500 pushups a day and consuming health drinks. The teachers staged an intervention but she was not happy about it and told everyone to LEAVE ME ALONE!. She is 5 4, has brown hair and green eyes and no pets. Besides the health drink, she is addicted to baked goods and drinks lemon tea. She often wears Highland t-shirts. Not listed as suspects but were involved at the crime scene. Mr. Rumpf - One of the teachers involved in creating the health drink. He is 6 1, brown hair and brown eyes. He has a black lab named Killer and four cats. He has been drinking the health drink daily, but he still loves coffee with cream and sugar. He coaches volleyball and is often in Nike gear. Mrs. Oshinski - One of the teachers involved in creating the protein drink. She is 5 4, brown hair and brown eyes. She has two dogs, a Border collie and a Shiba Inu, as well as one cat. She maintains a Paleo diet of meat, vegetables, and fruits, with very little processed foods. She wears only organic clothing.
