3 Greer Cultural Arts Council The Emperor s New Threads Friday August 2 & 9 at 7pm, Saturday August 3 & 10 at 2pm and 7pm Join us for hijinks and laughter as the Greer Children s Theatre Camp ARK perform the Emperor s New Threads at the Cannon Centre. Written by local playwright Nancy Rechtman, this adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen s classic tale will have your young audiences in stiches. When the Emperor unwittingly hires thieves Gonev and Gonevet to weave him a fantastic new costume from gold thread, even the Emperor s own children fail to see the mysterious work that, according to the sly scoundrels, only those suited for their position can see. And certainly the looms appear bare to court jester Hyster and chief advisor Sir Egged although they will say and do anything not to let on. But the Empress fails to be fooled. And with the royal staff sworn to secrecy that there are no new threads, the Emperor is left strutting before his people clothed only in long underwear to learn firsthand an important lesson in humility. The play is free and concessions are available. Giving Thanks Art Show November 7 from 6pm to 8pm The Greer Cultural Arts Council alongside The City of Greer Parks and Recreation Department present the 2013 Giving Thanks Art Competition for students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. The theme is What I Am Thankful For. The contest is free to enter. Winners will be chosen in elementary, middle, and high school levels. The winners will be displayed on the Wall Gallery in the City Hall lobby leading to the Thanksgiving holiday. Submission criteria are: -Art should represent what Thanksgiving means to you -Artwork may only be in the following forms: Pencil Crayons Paint Pastels -Artwork must be matted -The artist s name, grade, school, and contact information must be on the back of the piece -Submissions may be dropped off no later than Friday, October 25 to City Hall during normal business hours Monday thru Friday 8am to 5pm.
