MACPTSA.COM TABLE OF CONTENTS M&M Bowl JROTC Ongoing Information Project Graduation UIL Tamale ordering MEBC Counselor s information Career night TSA Leadership Day Orchestra Choir M&M BOWL Gridiron Heroes MacArthur and Madison's Student Councils are selling customized spirit towels for the M&M Bowl in an effort to help raise money and awareness for the Gridiron Heroes Spinal Cord Injury Foundation. Gridiron Heroes was formed in 2003 with a specific mission - to provide immediate and long term resources and support to individuals sustaining catastrophic spinal cord injury through activities associated with high school football across the nation. The story of the Gridiron Heroes has been featured on Access Hollywood, HBO's Real Sports, the CBS Evening News, CNN Heroes, and TIME magazine, among other outlets. Their "pay it forward" attitude impacts lives within its reach to the community. Through your financial support, Gridiron Heroes is able to help countless families who find themselves in need of the resources, assistance and inspiration that the organization provides. Towels will be on sale from October 13 through November 3 in A213 or C233 and all three lunches. The cost is $5. 100% of the sales at Mac go to this great organization.

2 Help us not only beat Madison on the football field but in our collection of money for the Gridiron Heroes. Both Student Councils will present the Gridiron Heroes with a check of our combined sales at the friendship exchange prior to the start of the M&M Bowl game on Friday, November 4. CNN will also be there so let's not only show Madison but the nation how the Brahmas do things!!! JROTC MacArthur JROTC Grand Champs at Corpus Christi The Douglas MacArthur High School JROTC Drill Teams competed September 30 to October 1st at Flour Bluff High School in the Annual SeaHornet Drill Meet and Military Skills Competition. This is a major competition for the year and is extremely competitive, attended the top Air Force, Navy, Marine and Army Drill teams in the nation. Results were as follows: MacArthur JROTC Overall - 1st Place Grand Champions; Brahma Battalion Physical Fitness Team - 1st in Push Ups Event, 2nd in Sit Ups Event, 2nd in 2-Mile Relay Event, 1st Overall Physical Fitness; Might Blue Force Precision Rifle Team - Top Prone Shooter (Matt McConnell), Top Standing Shooter (Charlie Hinders), Top Overall Shooter (Charlie Hinders), 1st Overall Precision Rifle Team; Might Blue Force Sporter Rifle Team - Top Prone Shooter (Devon Carter), 2nd Overall Sporter Rifle Team; MacArthur Male Imperial Color Guard - 3rd Place Overall; MacArthur Female Superior Color Guard - 2nd Place Overall; Mighty Blue Guard Armed Drill Team - 1st Inspection, 3rd Regulation Drill, 3rd Exhibition Drill, 2nd Overall Armed Drill Team; Mighty Blue Angels Unarmed Drill Team - 1st Exhibition Drill, 2nd Overall Unarmed Drill Team. PROJECT GRADUATION Project Graduation 2012 is an all night alcohol and drug free party exclusively for MacArthur High School graduating seniors. It is a night to honor our graduates in a safe environment. This year s event will be held at Shady Oaks Ranch. The evening will consist of games, prizes, food and much, much more a great time to end their wonderful graduation evening! 4 ACADEMIC UIL Congratulations to the UIL Math & Science Teams for their performance Saturday, Oct. 22 nd at O Connor High School Invitational Meet. With over 20 schools participating, the Number Sense team earned 1 st place and the Science team earned 3 rd place. The following are individual results that led to the overall team results: In 9 th Grade Ryan Gonzalez placed 2 nd in Science, 3 rd in Number Sense, 6 th in Calculator, and 8 th in Math. Tristan Pace placed 1 st in Number Sense, 2 nd in Math, and 6 th in Science. Marcella Pastrano placed 2 nd in Calculator. Joey Moore placed 3 rd in Calculator. Esmeralda Loza placed 9 th in Science. In 10 th Grade Michael Vaynberg placed 1 st in Number Science, 2 nd in Math, 2 nd in Science and 6 th in Calculator. Special congratulations to Michael for earning the top overall competitor for the entire meet among ALL grade levels. In 12 th Grade Alexandra Williams place 2 nd in Calculator and 4 th place in Science. Sean Yoon placed 7 th in Math. Honorable Mention for their performance at the meet were Nathaniel Johnston, Alyssa Parsons, Anchit Patel and Sabrina Williams. As the result of the team s effort, MacArthur earned 4 th place Sweepstakes! 5 TAMALES It s that time of year again! Time to order your Holiday Season Tamales and help the students in the MacArthur Electrical Apprenticeship program reach their goal of selling 2100 dozen tamales. Proceeds go toward funding student competitions and the Habitat for Humanity community service project. Our original Black Tie Affairs Catering, Mama Ojeda tamales are a great value, Taste great (yes we did some taste test). 8 TSA LEADERSHIP DAY The MacArthur Chapter TSA hosted the TSA Regional Leadership Day on Saturday, October 22 nd. The theme for the day was Road to Success. Students from MacArthur, Roosevelt and Stevens were in attendance for the event. The day was highlighted by a guest speaker, Sybil Pici. Ms. Pici and her husband are the owners of four McDonald s in San Antonio. She gave the students insight as to what it looks like to be a leader, leadership qualities they look for in employees and how to develop their own leadership skills. She also spoke about her own rise to leadership within McDonald s. Students worked on two different problem solving activities which focused on their teamwork and creative abilities. They also were given the opportunity to take the Lone Star Test. Those passing the test will receive a pin from the state association for their accomplishment. At the end of the day all agreed that the ride on the Road to Success will be a little bit smoother for those in attendance. 9 November 17th- The MacArthur Symphony presents St. Saens' Carnival of the Animal for our NEISD 5th graders. Artwork from the 5th graders will be shown as the music is played. The concerts are at 10:00 and 11:15 a.m. respectively, for 5th graders only. This is the 10th year of Carnival of the Animals. SENT BY
