7 Piedmont High School Girl s Soccer Program Expectations Team Expectations We will build everything about PHS Girl's Soccer from the ground up, with a new way of thinking. We intend to build a squad of athletes with an emphasis on trust, excellence and enjoyment. The only way to achieve this ideal is, a complete understanding of our roles and a team desire in making it happen. 1. Play fast paced, exciting, attractive and effective soccer. 2. Develop a winning mentality and attitude amongst the whole squad and coaching staff. 3. Embrace an enthusiasm for this experience on and off the pitch. 4. Perform consistently well under pressure. 5. Perform with the same mentality and intensity in practice as in games. 6. Ruthlessly dominate opponents physically and mentally for the entire game. 7. Team synergy that maximizes all players best effort and potential. 8. Belief in the ability of yourself and your teammates. 9. Promote holistic development through soccer. 10. Develop an atmosphere of trust, excellence and enjoyment within the whole group. Player Expectations 1. Establish world class habits in your role. 2. Strive for your best effort potential in everything you do. 3. Maintain excellence in your studies, making up any work missed for early dismissals. 4. Practice how you play. Play with same intensity in practice as in games. 5. Create a legacy. Be mindful of the history already created as you leave new footsteps for others to follow. 6. Effective communication is the essence of great teams. Learn from your mistakes, get performance feedback, ask questions, share information, celebrate success and learn from mistakes. Take corrective feedback as a compliment. 7. A quiet inner confidence based on detailed preparation and relaxed aggression. 8. Accept responsibility for outcomes. Look in the mirror first when improvement is required. 9. One voice Do not interrupt coaches, or teammates when they are speaking. 10. A measure of ones character is in their impact on those who they care about. 11. Being an elite athlete involves choices you make on things you have control over attitude and effort. In other words, character issues. 12. Ability to put the team before yourself in every decision. 13. Champions make the right decisions, not necessarily the easy ones. 14. Champions are not the costumes you wear; it s who you are on the inside. 15. Be a positive force in our program. 7

Please submit your medical form by October 30th. The medical form may be downloaded from the Piedmont Athletics website at Forms should NOT be turned into the coaches. Impact Testing - Once teams are determined, a concussion baseline test must be completed by student-athletes before the first scrimmage or game. The impact test will be carried out by the school trainer and must be completed by all freshmen, juniors and any student new to Piedmont High School. The date, time and location for impact testing will be on the team website once set. Dates & Process Tryouts to be held in early November, based on NCS determined dates for the winter sports season. All tryouts will be on Witter Football field and players should arrive at least 20 minutes prior to the start time, in order to check in. At check in players will be assigned a tryout number and given two pennies/bibs. Pennies will be used to identify players and must be worn for entire tryout process. The pennies must be washed and returned once the tryout process is complete. Unreturned pennies will be charged for. This number will be used when announcing the squads. Squad Selection FINAL squad selections will be announced after three tryouts and posted to the team website. There are a maximum of 22 places on each squad. The Varsity Coach, may choose to carry less. Players participating in fall sports will be given the opportunity to tryout once their sport is complete. Fall sport players must inform the varsity coach of their intention to tryout, prior to the first tryout. Players not selected on a team will be told before squads are announced and provided with feedback from the coaches. There may be opportunities for certain JV players to play for the Varsity team due to injuries, absences and a larger NCS Playoff Squad. Returning players are not guaranteed a spot on the roster. Varsity Coach s decision is final on all team selections. 12

All players and parents to sign PHS Player Contract, prior to first practice. Team Selection and playing time Players are expected to attend ALL training sessions on time and fully equipped. Players not adhering to this should expect to sit on the bench. Playing time is earned and the coaches will select the strongest team available every game in order to get a positive result. Responsibility for uniforms and equipment Players must look after uniforms and return all items (except socks) at end of season. Players will not get their high school diploma and cannot attend End of Season Banquet unless uniform is returned, or paid for. There will only be one opportunity to return uniforms. 16 Academic Requirements See PHS handbook. Communication with Coaches. PHS Girl's Soccer players are expected to be able to approach their team captains and/or Coaches with any issues effecting their performance, participation and overall enjoyment of being part of the PHS Girl's Soccer Program. Being able to handle any situations in a mature and adult manner is important to the athlete s holistic growth and is encouraged. If after speaking to the Coach, the player feels the issue has not been resolved, please the Head Coach and the matter can be taken further, as required. Parent Responsibilities It is important that parents give their full support to the program as a whole. This can range from ensuring your daughter is managing to juggle academics with athletic participation, to attending games to cheer the team on. Coaching from the sidelines by spectators is opposed by the PHS Girl's Soccer program. We ask that parents cheer and celebrate goals scored, but allow the coaches to do the coaching. We also ask that the parents show the same level of Sportsmanship, as is asked of the players. This means showing respect for all opposition, players, fans and officials. Be excellent hosts and visitors, welcoming opposing teams to our games, as well as following any rules set in place when visiting other facilities. Set a good example for your daughter to follow.
