OPTIONAL SUPPLEMENTAL TEXTS Human Anatomy, Media Update, 7E. Marieb, Malatt and Wilheim LAB PRACTICALS & QUIZZES 295 points are based on exams and quizzes as follows: Lab Practical 1, 3 and 4 = 60 points each exam Lab Practical 2 = 70 points (includes muscle origins, insertions, and actions) Quizzes = 45 points total IMPORTANT: Lab exams can only be taken on the scheduled days. Please see the lab manual introduction pages v - viii for more information on lab exams. GRADING 1) Grade Calculation: Final Percentage = 100 * (Total Points/295) 93.40% = A 90.00% = A % = B % = B 80.00% = B % = C % = C 70.00% = C % = D % = D 60.00% = D- 0% % = F 2) TA s will only consider re- grades through the end of the next class period, or 2 school days after returning the graded exams, whichever comes first. 3) A student may be exempt from one exam if documentation is provided within two days of the exam, for qualifying reasons (see below). However IF A STUDENT TAKES AN EXAM, ANY OPPORTUNITY TO BE EXEMPT FROM THE EXAM, EVEN FOR QUALIFYING REASONS IS FORFEITED. Qualifying: Documented acute illness or injury, family emergency (death or serious illness), extreme acts of nature, accidents or other extreme circumstances beyond your control. Non- Qualifying: Weddings, vacations, bachelor(ette) parties, ski trips, athletic competitions, research conferences, work obligations, court dates, jury duty, incarceration, or anything fun. QUIZZES Online quizzes through Mastering A&P are due at 11:59 PM on Sundays and Tuesdays. There are no quizzes before review days or exams. All quizzes are available by the first day of the semester. Late submissions incur a 10% deduction per hour. Each question can be attempted 2 times. A correct answer on the 2 nd try is worth half a point, while two successive incorrect answers are worth no points. Computers, not humans, grade the quizzes. Answers must be spelled perfectly and presented exactly as written in the lab manual, or in Pal 3.0. Quiz exemptions or due date extensions will not be granted for ANY REASON. This includes sickness, emergencies, Internet failures and computer problems. Technical problems related to your Mastering A&P account, computer, the Internet should be directed to the Pearson technical support group, which can be accessed via the Support link at the bottom of every page on Mastering A&P. Your TA and the lab coordinator are unable to help with technical computer issues or problems with your account. Quizzes will vary in the number of questions and difficulty, but all quizzes are equivalent in point value. Quiz scores will be converted into percentages. The 2

total number of quiz points received will be a product of a student s quiz average multiplied by 45. LABORATORY POLICIES AND CONDUCT The Human Anatomy laboratory uses prosected human cadavers. This experience serves as a valuable teaching tool, and is one afforded to few people. Students are expected to show respect and dignity toward the cadavers. Viewing of the cadavers is limited to those enrolled in, or teaching the Human Anatomy course. Students are not permitted to bring friends, or anyone else into the lab. If any student treats the cadavers with disrespect, defaces the cadavers in any way, or removes human anatomical specimens from the laboratory, a failing grade will be given for the course. Eating or drinking is not permitted in the laboratory when the cadavers are exposed, or when tissues are present. DISABILITIES & SPECIAL TESTING ACCOMMODATIONS Accommodations for students with learning disabilities are possible pending evaluation from Disability Services, and an approval letter is provided to your TA prior to an exam. For evaluation, contact Disability Services: , Center for Community N200, Because all exams take less than one hour, and the entire class period lasts 3 hours and 50 minutes, the exams for students with accommodations will occur during the regular class period following the regularly scheduled exam. ACADEMIC INTEGRITY All students are expected to abide by the academic standards outlined in the University of Colorado Honor Code at Violations of this policy may include: cheating, plagiarism, academic dishonesty, fabrication, lying, bribery, and threatening behavior. All incidents of academic misconduct shall be reported to the Honor Code Council (honor@colorado.edu; ). Students who are found to be in violation of the academic integrity policy will be subject to both academic sanctions from the faculty member and non- academic sanctions (including but not limited to university probation, suspension, or expulsion). Discussing exam material after you have taken a practical is cheating!! Your TA will not give out any answers until all lab sections have completed the exam. RELIGIOUS OBSERVANCES Campus policy regarding religions observations requires that faculty make every effort to reasonable and fairly deal with all students who, because of religious observations, have conflicts with scheduled exams, assignments or required attendance. Please notify the instructor in a timely manner (1 st week of class) of any conflict(s). SEXUAL HARASSMENT The University of Colorado at Boulder Discrimination and Harassment Policy and Procedures, the University of Colorado Sexual Harassment Policy and Procedures, and the University of Colorado Conflict of Interest in Cases of Amorous Relationships policy apply to all students, staff, and faculty. Any student, staff, or faculty member who believes s/he has been the subject of sexual harassment or discrimination or harassment based upon race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, creed, religion, sexual orientation, or veteran status should contact the Office of Discrimination and Harassment (ODH) at or the Office of Student Conduct (OSC) at Information about the ODH, the above referenced policies, and the campus resources available to assist individuals regarding discrimination or harassment can be obtained at 3

Attendance and Wait-listing in IPHY 3415 Human Anatomy Lab is one of the most popular and challenging courses in Arts and Sciences. Students from many different departments take this course, and this course is often repeated due its difficulty level. As such, many students find themselves on the wait list with many questions. The information below should handle most of these questions. For additional questions about registration, please contact the registrar. Please also read this carefully, as s that can be answered from the information below may not be answered. Students who do not abide by the attendance policies below may be dropped from the course. Students are responsible for knowing if they are enrolled, wait listed or not enrolled in the course. 1) Students must attend their enrolled section for the first two weeks of class, or they may be dropped. Attending a waitlisted section will not save your spot in your enrolled lab. 2) Students who are not enrolled, but who are wait listing multiple sections must attend only one of their wait listed sections, and must notify the TAs of other wait listed sections to remain on those wait lists. 3) Enrolled students may not attend any of their wait list sections, but should contact the TA of those sections to remain on the wait list. 4) The enrollment per section is capped at 16 students and will not be changed. The enrollment limit is not based on the number of chairs available, but on cadaver, model and human resources. 5) If you wish to be automatically enrolled from a wait list, and simultaneously dropped from a section you are enrolled in, you must select this option via a checkbox during registration. 6) Students that drop from the wait list, will not be enrolled. Students that remain on the wait list have some chance of being enrolled. Other than that, we cannot predict the likelihood of getting in from the wait list. 7) Your TA and the lab coordinator have no control over the ordering of the wait list. We cannot change a student s wait list position, or increase the number of positions available on the wait list. The wait list order is not merely based on when a student adds to the wait list, but includes student major, and the number of credits taken. 8) After the third week of class, students that are not enrolled cannot attend class, or take exams. Wait- listed students may no longer attend 9) It is the student s responsibility to know all add/drop/withdrawal deadlines and all other dates related to registration and tuition. Please check with the registrar for these dates rather than ask your TA, or the lab coordinator. 10) TAs and Instructor s will not check the availability of other sections for students. During the first two weeks of class, students have access to the same information that TAs and faculty do through their registration portal. 5

Mastering A and P Sign Up Instructions 1) Navigate to the Mastering A and P web page in any web browser: Under Register Now, click on STUDENT. 2) You will need to enter an un- used code from the Marieb, Human Anatomy text book. Even if you bought the book in a previous semester, the code should work, as long as the code has not been used by another student. If you do not have a code, you must follow the prompts online and purchase one. Be sure to purchase a code for Human Anatomy, 7 th edition by Marieb, Wilhelm and Mallat. The icon to click on is below: 3) The Course ID is MAPSP2014 5) Once you have signed in and added a course ID, your Mastering A and P home page should like something like the screenshot below (next page). 6

5) Click on Assignments and DUE DATE/TIME to show all of the quizzes and practice items, listed by due dates. Again, only items in the Quiz category are graded. 6) Before taking a quiz, you should review the assigned material on Pal3.0, which can be accessed from the Study Area (mya&p) tab in the upper right corner of your screen. This will open a new tab with links to the text book resources, one of which is Pal3.0. Follow this link to access the Pal3.0 content. Mastering A&P Return Policy (Wait listed students, please read!) Any student with a new book from the bookstore or Pearson direct will have an access code that is good for the life of the edition. If a student drops and subsequently reenrolls at any point in the future, their code will still be valid. If a student purchases a used book without a code, or with an expired code, they can gain access to Mastering by visiting: Here they can register as a student and purchase access on the following screen (either with or without an etext.) Lastly, the textbook publisher (Pearson) has a 14- day return policy on Mastering, when purchased online from the method described above. For any waitlisted student, this may be a great option and in this case they would most likely want to purchase an access code with the etext. 7
