Theorizing about the teaching of ballet does not pay the rent. Very often, teachers need to be inspired. Ask yourself: What new ideas can I incorporate in my teaching? Do my classes have enthusiasm and energy? Are my students up to standard? Are their parents satisfied with their progress? The Teachers Intensive will provide the answers. Included is the Performance Awards program. Teachers, dancers, and parents love it. This note cannot describe the feeling of being there, the self-confidence that knowledge brings; and the inspiration that the Teachers Intensive infuses into all those who attend. See page 6 for details. Observe The Best Master teachers teach the dancers. Note the combinations, the images and methods that inspire the dancers to dance their personal best in each class. Learn by watching. Performance Awards Program Mignon Furman initiated this program. It is now part of the curriculum of teachers across the United States, in England, Japan, Spain, Ireland, South Africa, the Bahamas, Holland, Mexico and Israel. See page 8 for more information. Make Contact Do not teach in isolation, unaware of the ballet developments going on around you. Teachers need other teachers for the sharing of knowledge. Every profession is updated from time to time. Update your teaching! Summer Break Give yourself a break! You deserve to get away from your daily routine. Faculty Karin Averty is a graduate of the Paris Opera Ballet School, and winner of the Grand Prix at Varna. Was a Principal Dancer with the Paris Opera Ballet.

Cosima Borrer Stadnik was a prize-winner at the Prix de Lausanne. Furthered her training at the State Ballet School in E. Germany.

Now on the dance faculty of Ball State University. Vladimir Stadnik was trained at the Vaganova Academy in Russia. Danced as a soloist in Russia, W. Europe, and the USA.

Gina Chiavelli is the Artistic Director of both Dutchess Dance Theatre and Pinewood School of Dance.

Has danced with the Ballet of the Vienna State Opera, and the Russian State Ballet of Moscow. An honors graduate of the State Conservatory Rimsky Korsakov. Was a teacher at the Zurich Tanz Akademie. Now on the dance faculty of Ball State University. Vladimir Stadnik was trained at the Vaganova Academy in Russia. Danced as a soloist in Russia, W. Europe, and the USA. A graduate of the University of Culture, St. Petersburg, and of the State Conservatory Rimsky Korsakov. Now Assistant Professor of Dance at Ball State University, Indiana. Gina Chiavelli is the Artistic Director of both Dutchess Dance Theatre and Pinewood School of Dance. Is a former adjunct professor at both Fordham University and the State University of New York at New Paltz where she taught classical ballet and jazz. Is also an American Academy of Ballet judge for the Performance Awards. Louise Taitz was a dancer with the Israel Ballet. She was trained in Johannesburg, and at the Royal Ballet School in London. Now, director of her own ballet school in Chicago, and a judge for the Performance Awards. Dean Vollick has danced with several companies in the USA and Canada. Is a graduate of the Teacher Training Program of the National Ballet School (Toronto). Teaches at the Boston Ballet School. 4 American Academy of Ballet Teachers Intensive

Her charming choreography - musical, and innovative - makes the program easy to teach; a joy to dance; and a pleasure to watch. The program, backed by CDs, DVDs, and notes, is now being taught across America, and in 9 overseas countries. You will be amazed at the results. Technique and performance improve immensely; dancers are more enthusiastic; and parents are delighted. Starting at age 5-6, the program develops over 12 levels of short choreographed compositions of increasing complexity that will challenge and encourage your dancers. Each level consists of port de bras, adage, allegro and a solo dance. Choices throughout the program results in a total of 113 choreographic compositions. All dancers have the opportunity to dance in pairs, and a solo before an audience. 7 Fees Teachers Intensive Per Day $75 affiliates / $100 non-affiliates Observation of Students Classes during Summer School of Excellence Per Day $30 affiliates / $50 non-affiliates Fees are exclusive of materials (CDs, DVDs, notes, etc.). These will be available for sale at the Teachers Intensive. Accommodations Option 1: The Westchester Hilton is about a 10-minute drive from the campus. This is an up-market hotel with a swimming pool, fitness center and a restaurant. A limited number of rooms have been reserved at a very discounted price for $100 per night for a double room, which includes breakfast for one person. Regular price is $269 per night without breakfast. If 2 teachers attend from your school, they could share a room. Option 2: A limited number of Purchase College dormitory rooms are available including private bathroom and meals. The rate for single occupancy dormitory housing with breakfast, lunch and dinner is $80/day for affiliates, $90 for non-affiliates; double occupancy rate is $60/day for affiliates and $70 for non-affiliates.
