Nas paints a densely textured lyrical portrait of life in a New York City public housing project. Movies for Grownups Awards with AARP the Magazine Friday, February 9PM AARP The Magazine announced today that Helen Mirren will receive the 2017 Movies for Grownups Career Achievement Award. The AARP Movies for Grownups multimedia franchise was established in 2002 to celebrate and encourage filmmaking with unique appeal to movie lovers with a grownup state of mind and recognize the inspiring artists who make them. Friday, February 8PM From the 1910s through the 1950s, oil permeated every aspect of life in Butler County. Those in the oil fields found work that was hard and dangerous, but also created bonds that lasted over the decades. Although quiet, the grasslands of modern Butler County still bear traces of the dynamic search for black gold that shapes lives to this day. 11:30PM February 2-23 Executive Editor and host Zainab Salbi goes beyond the headlines about sexual harassment to ask, "How We Got Here and How We Move Forward?" The hour-long documentary features stories from his childhood growing up in Boston in the 1930s and 1940s; an overview of his early career in Hollywood; and a snapshot of his big break-out role on the popular sci-fi series. The latest documentary from Stanley Nelson (Black Panthers, Freedom Riders), foremost film chronicler of the African-American experience, the powerful story of the rise, influence, and evolution of HBCUs comes to life. RAT FILM Monday, February 9PM Trace the history of Baltimore through this provocative film that uses the rat as well as the humans who love them, live with them, and kill them to chronicle the systemized oppression in impoverished communities far beyond the city s borders.
