CONGRATULATIONS to our SDSC Drama students for their very entertaining and dynamic performance of DEAR EDWINA this past weekend! Lots of hard work and great talent! Special thanks to Mrs. Christine Manning, their drama director and the many parents who helped to make this production a great success and wonderful experience for the students. Without the many generous helping hands and of course, the talent of the students (encouraged and developed by their dedicated director, Christine Manning) this production would not have been possible or as phenomenal as it was. Thank you!!! Life Touch Pictures This Friday, April 13 th Life Touch Pictures will be here to photograph all the students in Grades K-8. No payment is needed on picture day. You will receive a picture package of your child(ren) after they are photographed. At that time you can decide if you want to purchase it. If you decide to purchase it at a later date, simply go to The students may wear colorful dress-up clothes for these pictures. Third Marking Period --- Educate, Report Cards, Tuition, and After School Payments The 3 rd marking period ends this Friday, April 13 th. The Parent Component of Educate is presently closed and will reopen on April 21 st when you will be able to view your children s Third Quarter report cards. Remember that all tuition payments, including April, After School Program and any other school fees must be up to date before you will have access to your children s report cards. All tuition payments must be made directly to SMART and are no longer accepted at the school. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at the school. SDSC 2018 GALA Tickets are on sale NOW! Our 2018 Gala will take place on Saturday, April 28, 2017 at the Dutchess Manor from 6:00 p.m. 11:00 p.m. Tickets are now on sale. See the attached flyer and ticket form for more information or click on the following link: Upcoming NYS English Language Arts and Math Tests As it is stated in our school handbook, our students take part in the Archdiocesan testing program, which includes the Archdiocesan Religion test, Annual Standardized Tests, and New York State Education Department assessments. These tests measure academic growth over a period of time. This Wednesday, April 11 th and Thursday, April 12 th our students in Grades 3-8 will be taking the NYS ELA Tests. The test will take place between 8:15 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. in the morning. Please be sure that your children are in school on time on these days. We thank you for your support and cooperation in this educational process. PLEASE NOTE that we will not be honoring an OPT OUT option for these tests this year. Included below are some important points about test-taking: Test-taking helps build mental stamina in children, preparing them for higher education. Data gleaned from state exams helps teachers create individualized instruction and provide support in specific areas as needed. State exam scores do not determine promotion or retention. Elementary-level state exams prepare students for future "standardized testing" such as the high school TACHS exam, SATs, ACTs, driver' s licenses, GREs, Bar exams and more. Performance and personal data is carefully protected by the school and state, and is not shared with outside vendors or organizations.

2 Have your Purchased your tickets for our upcoming Father-Daughter Sock Hop Dance This Friday evening, April 13 th our SDS PSA will be hosting a Father-Daughter Sock Hop Dance here at SDSC from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Girls in Grades K-8 are invited to put on their poodle skirts and leather jackets for a night of dancing and fun with their favorite guy. For more information or to purchase tickets, check out the attached flyer, call the school office at , or go to our school website at Springtime Edition of Storytime Saturday, April 14 th Mrs. Fisher and the SDSC Storytellers will present Storytime to children in Pre-K through Grade 2 on Saturday, April from 10:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. here at SDSC. Storytime features puppet shows, storytelling, interactive music, singing and dancing. Storytime is free and is open to all, so bring a friend! Sacrament of Confirmation Our Eighth Grade students have been diligently preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation. Next Friday, April 20, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. the St. Columba students will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation which will be conferred by Bishop Lagonegro at St. Columba Church. Confirmation Rehearsal is Tuesday, April 17, 2018 h at 7:30 p.m. in the Church. Special thanks to Mrs. Forlenza for preparing these students to continue their faith journey as full members of the church! We congratulate each of them. Uniform Exchange on Friday, April 27 th Come and join us on Friday, April 27 th from 7:15 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the lunchroom for our last Uniform Exchange sale of the year! Gently-used winter and summer uniforms will be available for purchase at great discounted prices. Please drop off in the lunchroom any clean gently-used uniforms you would like to donate marked "Uniform Exchange." Remember all monies raised during this sale benefit our school and your children. If you have any questions, please contact the school office at SAVE THE DATE: Home Run for Catholic Schools - Renegades Game on June 26 th Home Run for Catholic Schools is a partnership between the Hudson Valley Renegades, a Minor League Baseball affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, and Catholic Schools. Now in our 8 th year, this is an opportunity for Catholic school students and their families to come together for a night of baseball and fun! The date is Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at 6:35 p.m. Students and families can begin purchasing tickets on line soon. For Saint Denis-Saint Columba School go to and enter deniscolumba as the password. Each school will receive $3.00 per ticket sold. Each ticket holder will receive a free Renegades cap. (6-year old cousin of Winogradoff children who has leukemia and a very rare brain tumor), Mrs. Fazi (our PE teacher), Marcus Franklin (uncle of the O Connor children), Ronald Graves (grandfather of Lilly Graves), George Leggio (grandfather of Minotti children recently diagnosed with cancer), Maureen O Connor (Grandmother of the O Connor Children), Martin Craig (stepfather of Jillian Beresford), Shirley Mauro (grandmother of Sean Guaman), and the many who are sick and suffering in mind, body or spirit in this year.
