THE CARE BEARS Luck o the Oopsy episode #122a FADE IN: EXT. CARE A LOT- DAY We PUSH IN to find another beautiful Care-A-Lot morning. Suddenly, the FRAME SHAKES, (CRASH: SFX), we ve just been hit by Oopsy, who FLIES around on a skateboard-like contraption. (NOTE: He wears appropriate head gear and protective padding.) (zooming away) Oopsie! Sorry! And as Oopsy FLIES off into the distance, we TILT down, and- DISSOLVE TO: EXT. CARE SQUARE - MORNING The Bears are abuzz, TINKERING with skates, discs, cloud cars and scooters. CHEER I can t wait for the race tomorrow. It s not just any race, it s the Care-A-Lot Grand Prix! A super big cloud race around Care- A-Lot! I want everyone to be a winner. Everyone can t win. Somebody wins and somebody has to lose. Not true. All we have to do is try hard and we ll all be winners. Cheer finishes LACING up her roller skates. CHEER Look at me, everyone. There s no quicker way around Care-A-Lot than on my rainbow roller skates! Cheer shows off some skating moves, almost FALLING, STEADYING herself. CHEER (CONT.) Wh...wh...whoah!
2. We ANGLE on, THUMBING through a BOOK. I don t see a single thing in this rule book about using rainbow roller skates! All ROLL EYES at Grumpy s finickiness. I m going to use a flying sun disc in the race. Funshine TOSSES his sun disc toward the ground, it hovers, JUMPS on, WHIZZES around. Grumpy gets a LOOK at Funshine, immediately REVERSES his thumbing: (searching) Sun disc, sun disc, sun disc, that s got to be against the rules! Way to go, Funshine. I m using Lollipop skis. (slamming book shut) Well, you re all wasting your time. Grumpy YANKS a sheet off a large object, REVEALS a hot-rod of a CLOUD CAR., CHEER, <oohs, aahs>. This is stormy! The best cloud car racer there is - I loaded her with thunder too! Just then everyone s attention gets drawn to o.s Whoa! Look at Oopsy! On cue, Oopsy barrels into frame ADEPTLY-RIDING his Oopsy-board. He s really good! Oopsy CHECKS his nails, RIDES on one foot, shows off. Wingnut, however, is attached to the back of the board, via robotic arm, FLAILING for dear life. CHEER He s pretty good!
3. Wow, Oopsy might be the fastest racer of all! Oopsy does a cool turn, grinding on his board as he calls down (zooming around) Watch me. I m going to do a double twirl landing. <concerned beeps> Oopsy GUIDES his board around the GATHERING tree. But then Oopsy loses control, he and Wingnut CRASH into the gathering tree. Whew. Air brakes didn t work as I expected. <pained, we don t have air brakes beeps> Oopsy and Wingnut DUST themselves off, SEE STARS. No air brakes? (thinks) Oh. Oopsy, if your luck changes and you don t fall off that thing, you d be the favorite to win. That s a pretty big if for me. DISSOLVE TO: EXT. CARE A LOT GENERAL STORE - SOON Oopsy and Wingnut PULL up to the store, Oopsy PARKS his Oopsyboard with flair. Come on, Wingnut. Let s get something yummy to give us lots of energy for the race tomorrow. <beeps of agreement> Oopsy and Wingnut EXIT TO the store. Just then, Grumpy pulls up, in an all-too-quick huff, parks, heads inside.
4. <murmuring about rules > INT. CARE-A-LOT GENERAL STORE - CONTINUOUS Wingnut and Oopsy have hands loaded with sandwiches, DRINK cartons of milk. As they search an aisle, Grumpy searches the same, Oopsy and Grumpy end up BUMPING BUTTS into one another. <Oof!> Oopsy! Watch where you re going. I m sorry, Grumpy. Grumpy takes Oopsy and TWISTS him around, facing Oopsy AWAY from Grumpy. Why don t you shop in that direction. (then) Now, let s see, I m going to need something with a little oomph for this race. Oopsy s turns back around to Grumpy. But Grumpy starts backing away from Oopsy. How about some milk? No, thanks. It s good for your bones. Really, I ll pass. It s nice and cold. I said no thanks. Delicious and nutritious. No. Just then, Grumpy falls backwards over a food display, EGGS SPLATTER on him (not too much egg though). Oopsy SLIPS around, as if he s on ice, knocking a stack of BOXES on top of Grumpy.
5. Oh no, let me help you. No really, you ve done enough. Hold this, I ll move these boxes. Oopsy HANDS milk carton to Grumpy, spilling it, DRENCHING Grumpy, who is already covered in egg yolk. REVEAL a scowling BEST FRIEND BEAR (Star, heart joined by rainbow belly badge) who gives Grumpy a disapproving look regarding the mess. Grumpy then grumbles to Oopsy and exits. I m going to go now. EXT. CARE-A-LOT STORE - CONTINUOUS Grumpy (carrying his bag of groceries) is followed by an apologetic Oopsy as they walk to Grumpy s car, Wingnut trails, innocently behind. Grumpy! I m sorry, let me make it up to you! (reaching out) No! You ve done enough already! At least let me help you carry your bag? Thanks, but I ve got it. Really, I just want to-- Oopsy reaches out to help with Grumpy s bag... but accidentally tears it, dumping the items that spill out all over Grumpy s cloud car, messing it up! Bag-ripping splatterbumps! Look what you did to Stormy! Oh... uh-
6. Don t you say oopsie! I m tired of hearing oopsie! I m starting to think that you are bad luck! Share and Funshine cross over having seen what s happened. Oopsy turns to Grumpy. What happened? I had a n--- (off Grumpy s glare) You know... the ooo word. (CONT.) Please Grumpy. Let me wash your car for the race tomorrow. I promise I m not bad luck. <grumble> Oopsy s not bad luck. I m sure it was all an accident. Oopsy turns to Grumpy, pleading... (to Grumpy) Oh please, oh please, oh please, oh please... Fine! I ll let you wash my car. But I ll be watching you to make sure there are no more oopsies. Got it? (on behalf of Oopsy) Oopsy will do a first rate job. And I ll be there for support! EXT. S GARAGE - SOON Oopsy HAND-WASHES Grumpy s car. Grumpy sits nearby, READING his rule book. Share plays HOPSCOTCH nearby. Don t forget the mirrors, I ll need those clean to see who I m beating.
7. Already on it, Grumpy! Oopsy continues to clean, uses a HOSE that extends from Wingnut s belly. Share takes out some bubble gum, eats a piece, crosses to Oopsy: Would anyone like some bubble-gum? <eyes wide, yummy beeps> Sorry, Share. Bubble gum isn t good for Wingnut s gears. But Wingnut says I d love a piece! Grumpy grabs a piece too, sniffs it, chews, blows a little bubble. (CONT.) Ooh, I love bubbles. Oopsy CHEWS his gum, BLOWS the biggest bubble - which pops - all over Grumpy s sparkling car. Grumpy SMACKS his forehead. FADE IN: Oooooopsssyyyy! ACT BREAK EXT. S GARAGE - DAY Grumpy and Oopsy looks over Grumpy s gum-covered cloud car. You got sticky, gooey gum all over my car! I knew you were bad luck! No-no! I have an idea, I ll wax the car and it ll be like new... And before Grumpy can RAISE a finger and PROTEST, we: EXT. S GARAGE - MOMENTS LATER Oopsy has waxed Grumpy s car. It looks amazing! FADE OUT. FLIP TO:
8. There. That looks a lot less gummy and a lot more rain-cloudy. Grumpy, arms folded, cocks an eye at his clean cloud car. Mmmmm, not bad. Good job Oopsy. Now all we have to do is wait thirty-six hours for the wax to dry. Grumpy shrugs this off, but then dose a BIG TAKE as he realizes... (matter of fact) Oh, only Thirtysix hours? That s not bad... (realizes) Wait- that s THREE DAYS! The race is tomorrow, Oopsy! Oopsy quickly thinks, then turns to Wingnut. We ll use a hairdryer! Wingnut opens his belly door and produces a HAIR DRYER that he hands to Oopsy. < All ready to go!> This will only take a couple of moments. Are you absolutely, one-hundred percentitively positive this will only take a couple of moments? Oopsy turns on the dryer and dries the car, as: It ll be ready one, two, quick! The car instantly dries (turning a pale white color) then it CRACKS, and falls to pieces in a little pile. (CONT.) Ooo, got it a little too dry. Grumpy steams, burns, catches breath, looks right at Oopsy:
9. Oopsy, you are bad luck! < awwww feel-bad beeps> Grumpy storms away, leaving Oopsy to feel awful. Bad things seem to happen whenever I m around. That s not true. Everyone makes mistakes. You ve just had a run of- Bad luck? That s all that I am, bad luck! Oopsy storms off. Wingnut and Share exchange concerned looks. INT. S ROOM - SOON Oopsy MOPES around his home. Wingnut trails, throughout. Maybe if I stay at home for a while bad things will only happen at...(realizes)...home. WIPE TO: Wingnut does a silly SPIN move that ends with him landing on his metal butt - trying to cheer Oopsy up. (CONT.) Thanks, Wingnut, but you shouldn t spend too much time around me... I m bad luck. < no way beeps, you are not bad luck > I don t even want to race tomorrow. Wingnut looks at Oopsy, annoyed EYEBROW RAISED, ARMS CROSSED. Wingnut is full of robotic-arm-pointing during the speech: <emotional, animated lecture beeps> Well, I do try my best.
10. <emotional, animated lecture beeps> Yes, everyone likes me... <emotional, animated lecture beeps> No, I m not giving up-- I just don t want to be bad luck to anyone else! A frustrated Oopsy exits and SLAMS his door as he goes. Wingnut looks exasperated. <exasperated beep> INT. SMARTHEART LIBRARY - SOON Oopsy sits aside a stack of library books. If only I could learn how to do things the right way. DISSOLVE TO: Oopsy PAGES through book after book, SEARCHING for the needle in a haystack. Accidentally, he KNOCKS the stack over. (CONT.) What else could go wrong? Oopsy GRABS the books off the floor when GOOD LUCK spots him. The two clean up books... GOOD LUCK Hey Oopsy, what s got you so down? Everything always goes wrong, every time, everywhere, every day, when I m nearby. GOOD LUCK Well, everyone has good and bad days, Oopsy. And everyone makes mistakes. Even I do.
11. Yeah, well, when was the last time you knocked over a stack of books? Good Luck crosses to a SMALL stack of books (two or three) on a cart and KNOCKS them over. GOOD LUCK (smiles) I knocked over a stack just today. (appreciative) That doesn t count. As the two clean up the books, Oopsy notices Good Luck s four-leaf clover belly badge. (CONT.) Is that a four-leaf clover? A good luck four-leaf clover? GOOD LUCK Indeed it is. I think I figured out how to end my bad luck. You are good luck! And Oopsy darts out of the library, SPINNING Good Luck around as he BLOWS past him. DISSOLVE TO: EXT. RAINSHINE MEADOWS - MOMENTS LATER Oopsy searches for and finds a four-leaf clover. He plucks it, big SMILE. He takes it with him as he walks off with a confident stride. EXT. CARE A LOT- DAY Oopsy WAITS, TAPS TOES, impatient. Wingnut approaches, RIDING Oopsy s board. Thanks for bringing my board. < no problem beeps> With my new good luck charm, I can practice for the big race tomorrow. Oopsy HOPS on his board, and, about to take off, PAUSES, LIFTS SAFETY HELMET, looking inside to see...
12. (CONT.) (to clover) You still there, little fella? Oopsy grabs his four-leaf clover, it s there, and places it back. (CONT.) Practice makes perfect! < go for it! beeps> And as Oopsy TAKES OFF, faster than ever, TWIRLING, RACING, LOOPING, we: DISSOLVE TO EXT. S HOME - LATER Oopsy and Wingnut TINKER with the board, mechanic style. Oopsy uses a wrench to tighten bolts, throughout which: Did you see me out there? WING NUT < I sure did, you were faster than fast beeps> I was faster than faster than fast! Oopsy checks under his helmet for his four-leaf clover. (CONT.) (to clover) You still there buddy? I need you now more than ever! The big race is in the morning. DISSOLVE TO: EXT. GATHERING TREE - THE NEXT MORNING Race time! Bears line their cars up (HARMONY, TENDER HEART,, CHEER and. Oopsy and Wingnut are polishing their board in preparation for the race when Grumpy arrives in a new cloud car. (incredulous) You fixed Stormy? No. I had to buil d a new one - this is Stormy two. Now, where are you lining up?
13. Over here. Then I m lining up over there. Out of the oopsie zone. Grumpy lines up at the opposite end of Oopsy. Funshine and Cheer cross to Oopsy. CHEER I m so happy you decided to race. It wouldn t be a Care-A-Lot Grand Prix without you, Oopsy. Oopsy BLUSHES. Good Luck bear lines his Clover Cart up, the moment is approaching. LOVE-A-LOT displays a GREEN start flag. Tension mounts! GOOD LUCK (O.S.) Okay everyone, on your marks. Get ready, get set, GO! Love-a-Lot waves the flag! All the racers take OFF, Oopsy included. A moment later, Good Luck spots something on the ground, picks it up. GOOD LUCK (CONT.) Oopsy s lucky clover? It must ve fallen from his helmet. Good Luck TUCKS the clover away, and takes off. WE MONTAGE: The cloud cars race around the clouds. Grumpy CLENCHING teeth, making progress, PASSING Funshine, Cheer, then Tender Heart, putting Grumpy in first place, but he doesn t look happy. I should be going a lot faster than this! C mon! Go! But his new storm-cloud car sputters, super-dark storm clouds, he starts slowing down. (CONT.) Uh oh... that doesn t sound good. We ANGLE ON, Funshine and Cheer, back of the pack. C mon Cheer, you re falling behind!
14. Cheer presses on, pulling ahead of Funshine. CHEER Now you re falling behind! <giggle!> Grumpy s puttering and shuttering storm cloud continues to slow, falling behind Funshine. But I m ahead of Grumpy! Aw cloudbursts! I m gonna check the rules on this! Next, a confident Oopsy and Wingnut manage to take the lead. Wingnut! We re winning! My lucky clover is doing the trick! <excited beeps> It s a race to the finish, Oopsy ZOOMS farther ahead of the pack, passing a CHECKERED FLAG, that Love-a-Lot waves. We win! <more-beeps-than-ever, beeps> END MONTAGE You did it, Oopsy! CHEER You raced like a champ! <annoyed beeps> CHEER You too, Wingnut! < thanks! beeps> Grumpy pauses, eyes up Oopsy, SINCERE:
15. (long beat) I dunno why Stormy wouldn t go any faster, but... um... You did good, Oopsy. You showed a lot of skill. Thanks, Grumpy. You did great too. I guess you re not bad luck after all. That s right! Now I ve got my lucky four leaf clover! But when Oopsy LIFTS his helmet, the clover is gone! (CONT.) <gasp!> My clover s gone! Good Luck crosses to Oopsy, SHOWS him the lucky clover. GOOD LUCK It blew out of your helmet at the start. You never had your lucky clover with you. Oopsy s confused. But how did I win the race? GOOD LUCK The clover had nothing to do with you winning. It didn t? GOOD LUCK Oopsy, you make your own luck. We all do. Funshine gives Oopsy a supportive smile. It was your practicing and hard work that won you the race. GOOD LUCK When things are bad, adjust to meet the challenge, but when things are going well - enjoy it!
16. I guess you re right. Oopsy turns to his friends: (CONT.) And, when I think about it, I have the best friends in the whole world... Cheer and Funshine share a happy glance, Wingnut gestures an Aww shucks. (CONT.)...and that makes for the best luck of all. They all turn as o.s. Grumpy calls out. (O.S.) Who a, hold on everybody! REVEAL Grumpy, sitting in Stormy Two, fiddling with some o.s. controls inside it. (CONT.) I think I found the problem. I never turned on the lightning switch. In a flash, his cloud car takes off, speeding away with Grumpy hanging on. (CONT.) Whooooooooaaaaaah! FADE OUT: THE END
