1 Glacier County May 2012 May 3, 2012 I was very impressed with the caliber of presentations at the recent speech and demonstration day. The youth all did a fantastic job and it was great practice for the Marias Fair competition. I would venture to say that all of them would place well at the fair. All of the participants came with well thought out presentations and lots of material to share with the audience. It was very good to hear of some of the great things that interested them and what they learned about their various topics. Public speaking is one of those skills that everyone is envious of, yet, very few people want to take the initiative to learn the skill and 4-H is a great avenue to learn. Public presentations will help you in many aspects of your future and many former 4-Hers attest to the value of that skill helping them succeed in their careers. If you would like to prepare a presentation for the fair it is still possible and for those who already presented, I am looking forward to your presentations at the fair. Many of you are planning your summer schedule and if you are like me, your calendar is filling up fast. I would challenge you to look at the many 4-H events being offered this summer and try to attend one. There are great things to learn in 4-H and all of the camps and happenings this summer are geared up to help you have fun while you explore the world around you. If there are any of the camps or events that you would like to attend but you re not sure about what is involved, contact the office and we will find the information that you are looking for. Also this summer Glacier County Extension will be hosting an intern. Her name is Katie Citrowski, she is engaged to Mark Eney and is excited to learn about what it is like to be an extension agent. We are still working on a schedule of events for Katie to help with so if there are any projects that you would like help with she may be a good resource. Katie has a background in food and consumer sciences so could be a great help with your foods or sewing projects. If you would like to have a project day with one of your projects for the fair contact the office and we will see what we can arrange. As we gear up for the fair, be sure to get a head start on your 4-H project paperwork. It seems to be the hardest part of any project. I was very impressed with the Clever Clover group that met at our office the other day in that all of the 4-Hers appeared to have their workbooks and were doing some of the dreaded paperwork. Good job guys! You will be ready for the fair when it comes. We were able to get all of the hogs tagged for the fair. Be sure to follow up with your vaccinations 3 weeks from when we gave them the first injection. Keep up the great work and if you need assistance with any of your projects, please contact the office. Damon Bunting, Glacier County Extension Agent Thought for the month- You are the same today as you ll be in five years except for two things, the books you read and the people you meet.
